Re: SitemapXML v.2

ckosloff:

Yahoo is quirky.
I have my cron set to daily, sometimes it takes it, sometimes it doesn't, why?
I think that Yahoo does not like repetitive sends (anti-DDoS security measures), and my website does not change frequently, so no new sitemaps are generated.
I develop everything off site, then FTP files and images, and upload new database.
So, after my submission is blocked for a couple days, it gets accepted again, and blocked again.
If you refresh your sitemap it will take it, it will understand it like a different ping.
Hi, ckosloff

Thanks for your input. You are really helpful.

Best regards,

Re: SitemapXML v.2

Hello again,

Still no response to my first questions:( (page 22 of this thread)...

Now I am having a problem with the cron job. I have tried setting it up all the different ways stated in this post (with and without removing the .txt) and I always get the same error from Google (sitemap not formatted correctly).

Has someone successfully set up their Cron Job and if so, how is it set up?

Re: SitemapXML v.2

Thanks for the great mod.

One question, I didn't quite find my answer here was, after submitting my site http://everythingaviation.net to google. Google replies back with 2,908 URLS submitted, 0 indexed. Am I missing something? How do I make sure that I don't have the "noindex" notation on each page?

Thank you,

Victor

We are talking apples and oranges here.
If Google bounces your sitemap for bad formatting, there is something wrong in your files, you have to investigate further: uninstall-reinstall, etc.
A cron job is set through your webhost's Control Panel, there are wizards there to help you, or you could ask them for help.

I miswrote. It doesn't say bad formatting, it says this:

General HTTP error: 404 not found
We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.

Same answer.
This is unrelated to cron.
You have to troubleshoot your installation.

Re: SitemapXML v.2

I followed the instructions, chmod 777 on sitemap* and patched the db but I get this:

Failed to open file "sitemapcategories.xml"!!!
File http://localhost/sitemapcategories.xml. Written 0 items (0 bytes), Filesize: 0 bytes

Include sitemapcategories.xml (http://localhost/sitemapcategories.xml)

Anyone has any idea how to fix it?

Cheers

Re: SitemapXML v.2

When the categories.xml file is created, extra urls are added which have cpath appened at the end. When I check to see what these URLs point to, it appears that it is simply pointing to the home page with 'new products' being different for each url listed.

How can I prevent this from happening as I have to manually remove these extra URLs from the file and resubmit my sitemap each time.

Thanks and sorry if this sounds a little confusing.

Re: SitemapXML v.2

Hello everyone.

I have read every post in this thread and other threads on the subject. I believe I understand but would like to make absolutely sure as I am not very familiar with Zen Cart yet. I apologize if the questions may seem simple and any help will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Adding this mod will not affect the built in Zen-Cart Sitemap?

  2. The SitemapXML v.2 will be generated together (at the same time) with Zen-Cart's Sitemap?

  3. Assuming the XML site generated by SitempaXML v.2 is not submitted to search engines will pages already indexed be indexed or crawled any differently?

  4. Does the XML site generated by SitempaXML v.2 be indexed by search engines?

Google has indexed most of my pages. I have read of some uses of this mod experiencing a loss of indexed pages after submitting the Sitemap. On the other hand, Bing and Yahoo only have a few pages indexed and would like to submit a site map to them.

Any ideas, suggestion or comments would be great.

Thank you in advance.

Re: SitemapXML v.2

Hello to everyone, I've got sitemap generator installed and running. I'm also running on my site 2 languages: italian & english. The urls of my products are mapped both in ita and eng. I'm running on my site the Ceon Uri Mapping that converts using mod_rewrite rules all my links products. For example for the same product "HANDBAG SHAPED USB PEN DRIVE" I have a specific link for each language:

eng uri: /funky-usb/borsetta-usb
ita uri: /funky-usb/handbag-usb-pen-drive

All works fine for me. But If I run the sitemap generator, for the urls generated on sitemapproduct.xml I get:

https://www.my.com/funky-usb/handbag-usb-pen-drive?&language=en
https://www.my.com/funky-usb/handbag-usb-pen-drive?&language=it

and not what I'd suppose to get:

https://www.my.com/funky-usb/handbag-usb-pen-drive
https://www.my.com/funky-usb/borsetta-usb

Anyone can help me? I going to get into the code...:lamo:

Cheers!

Hello everyone.

  1. Adding this mod will not affect the built in Zen-Cart Sitemap?

No. Completely different things.

  1. The SitemapXML v.2 will be generated together (at the same time) with Zen-Cart's Sitemap?

No. Same answer.

  1. Assuming the XML site generated by SitempaXML v.2 is not submitted to search engines will pages already indexed be indexed or crawled any differently?

No understand. If it's not submitted, how can it affect your site?
Anyway, your site will be indexed more efficiently over time.

  1. Does the XML site generated by SitempaXML v.2 be indexed by search engines?
This mod generates xml files that spiders use to crawl your site more efficiently.

Why so serious?

Re: SitemapXML v.2

Here is an update on the Yahoo problem.
Regarding this "curl malformed" message that I was getting I contacted my webhost Hostgator, they are quite a big outfit.
They contacted Yahoo and got a "Limit exceeded" warning.
They suggested that I scale down the frequency of the pings, so I set the cron to ping weekly instead of daily, and eventually it went through without errors.
So, this confirms what I thought: they are very cautious about their site not getting brought down again by a DDoS attack, and are limiting (too strictly) the number of pings that can be sent.
I know that none of the other SEs complain about a daily ping, but Yahoo does.
I think it is overkill, but that's the way it is.
