SitemapXML v.2

a_berezin:

Can someone help me?
How and what do I need to write, to not ask such questions:

Maybe someone will write the documentation, understandable to all. Or "Mission Impossible"?

How's this..

New Installation Instructions

  1. BACK UP your database & store.
  1. Unzip the SitemapXML package to your local hard drive, retaining the folder structure.
  1. Rename the "admin" folder in the "sitemapXML" folder to match the name of your admin folder.
  • sitemapXML/admin/
  1. Upload the files from "sitemapXML" to the root of your store. (DO NOT upload the "sitemapXML" folder, just the CONTENTS of this folder

(copy ALL of the add-on files to your store!! Most issues are caused by store owners who decide to NOT load ALL of the module files)

  1. **IF your are running Zen-Cart 1.5.x. Run install-sitemapxml.sql (If you are running Zen Cart 1.3.9, SKIP THIS STEP!)

**

  1. Go to Admin->Tools->Sitemap XML and click "Install SitemapXML SQL".
  1. Go to Admin->Configuration->Sitemap XML and setup all parameters.
  1. Go to Admin->Tools->Google XML Sitemap (If error messages occur, change permissions on the XML files to 777).
  1. To have this update and automatically notify Google, you will need to set up a Cron job via your host's control panel.

Hi DivaVocals,

DivaVocals:

How's this..
Thank you. You do not understand my sarcasm. But you really help me. I will definitely take advantage of the proposed option documentation. Although confident that this will not help get rid of the issues mentioned.

However, I think what I posted actually would help.. Letting folks know explicitly that the SQL file is not required for v1.3.9 is a good way to make sure folks stop asking the question.. (and the fact that folks keep asking the SAME question is probably the best reason to be explicit)

I hope to help. But not sure. Be sure I rewrite readme. Thank you!

What's the difference between "needs to 1.5.0" and "do not need to 1.3.h"?

There is no difference, but while this is clear to you and me and others, not everyone will understand that this means "you do not need this file if the version of Zen Cart you are running is v1.3.9".. Based on my own experience in writing mod instructions, given that this one step in the directions is being questioned fairly frequently, it might be better to just spell it out so that it leaves no doubt in the mind of the reader, and the question stops being asked..

Re: SitemapXML v.2

As an experienced mod installer (I try everything under the sun) I ran into two install problems - both of which were my own (PEBKAC).

  1. First I tried installing the sql file even though I'm not using 1.5 (wow, I know.:frusty:)
  2. Second I have the really old former version of this program installed. On my initial attempts to upgrade I didn't realize the Admin screens have new names - even though in the readme the new names are indicated.

Just thought those errors might help some others having the same frustrations.

Once I corrected my own errors this module installed beautifully. I'm actually quite impressed by how hands off this is considering the files it creates - all it actually required was an FTP of files.

Re: SitemapXML v.2

Hello,

I am trying and upgrade from version 2-1-0.

I've uploaded all files to my store directory.

When I hit the "Upgrade SitemapXML SQL" link under Tools > Sitemap XML, a blank page appears and nothing seems to happen.

Can someone please advise?

Thank you.

This is the answer to your question - you did not download all files.

Ah! I indeed did not upload a couple of files. Thanks a lot a_berezin!

I have 2 extra questions:

  1. the sitemap.xml file is empty, is that normal? by the way is that file at all necessary?
  2. I can see the sitemapindex.xml under google webmaster tools. Am I to submit anything else there manually?

If you use sitemapindex.xml as sitemap index file - you also can delete sitemap.xml file.

Thannaree:

No. Nothing more to do in Google does not need.

You can add an entry Sitemap to the file robots.txt - http://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.php#submit_robots

No. Nothing more to do in Google does not need.

The sitemapindex.xml appears to be the main sitemap. I've deleted sitemap.xml and indicated sitemapindex.xml as the sitemap in robots.txt.

Many thanks again for your help a_berezin!

You have somewhere defined constant TABLE_EZPAGES_TEXT so the script says that you have the extended EZ-pages and reads data from a table TABLE_EZPAGES_TEXT.

Nothing strange - people are different and there are those who can not perform basic actions. And there are those who behave rude.

In full support of Andrew... we have installed this mod on about 60 zencart sites and have NEVER experienced any problems with it.

Those who can not understand himself and make himself or should learn or pay someone to work. For example, you can make a contribution to the development of Zen-Cart and pay someone to write the instructions for dummies. I do not owe you.
