:laugh: OK, I just made an override copy of the file, includes/modules/column_left.php; modified the SQL to skip the search box in the sidebox!
Original(line 15):
// Check if there are boxes for the column
$column_left_display= $db->Execute("select layout_box_name from " . TABLE_LAYOUT_BOXES . " where layout_box_location = 0 and layout_box_status= '1' and layout_template ='" . $template_dir . "'" . ' order by layout_box_sort_order');
// safety row stop
Now:
// Check if there are boxes for the column
$column_left_display= $db->Execute("select layout_box_name from " . TABLE_LAYOUT_BOXES . " where layout_box_location = 0 and layout_box_status= '1' and layout_box_name != 'search_header.php' and layout_template ='" . $template_dir . "'" . ' order by layout_box_sort_order');
// safety row stop
" and layout_box_name != 'search_header.php' "

I am still hoping someone will provide an answer to #4.
I feel fairly competent with Zen Cart but I have been unable to keep the search in the "Main" area while having it go away in the sidebox.

It looks like the tpl_search_header is called twice. I suppose there needs to be an IF to not use it in the sidebox OR I just need to have an image that covers it up and be done with it.
Yews I have significantly modified the look but that should not be a big problem here.
Thanks for the template - I really like it.
