Customer not able to get product using GC

Faith516:

I had it set to default but changed it to processing. When it was set at default I kept getting a message when trying to download 'Free' products that

NOTE: Downloads are not available until payment has been confirmedExactly. That's how it's designed to work. If the order is still pending, then downloads are not available to the customer.
Faith516:

I set it to processing and now they can download free products. The only thing that does not work is the discount coupons/gv
And now I'm not clear on what exactly you mean now by "does not work" about coupons/gv

Re: Customer not able to get product using GC

I am trying to send a gv coupon out to all my customers for a fixed dollar amount that can be used one time.

Once they enter the code, the message verifies that the code is activiated. They are then taken to paypal to enter their information, then back to the store to finalize purchase.

They are never given the option to enter a value to apply towards their purchase. For example if the coupon is worth $2, and they purchase $2 only part of the coupon, say $1 is applied and they are then billed for the remaining $1 balance even though the whole amount of the gv coupon would have covered their purchase.

This is how I have it set up if it helps to see what I am doing wrong of it is another problem

Coupon Zone Restriction0
Coupon Name Gift
Coupon Amount 2.0000
Coupon Minimum Order 1.0000
Free Shipping No Free Shipping
Coupon Code xxxxx
Uses per Coupon
Uses per Customer 1
Start Date 04/10/2010
End Date 04/30/2010

I hope that helps you understand my dilemma

Re: Customer not able to get product using GC

Okay, so you're talking about coupons.

Those are different from Gift Certificates (also referred to as Gift Vouchers or GV's or by some as GC's).
So let's make sure you've turned off GV capability: go to Admin->Modules->Gift Certificates (ot_gv), and click Remove.

So ... how much is the product worth? You're offering a $2.00 coupon.

When I set up a $1.00 product here and apply a $2.00 coupon, Zen Cart uses freecharger and completes checkout without asking for payment. The order is set to whatever status freecharger is set to. With my freecharger set to Processing, my download is immediately available when I confirm checkout.

When I set up a $3.00 product and apply a $2.00 coupon, Zen Cart asks me for payment (whether PayPal or otherwise), and upon completion of payment, the order is saved and set to whatever status my payment module is set to. In the case of PayPal set to Processing, my order is set to Processing and my download is immediately available.

I also offer Gift Certificates in my shop, I can't use both Gift Certificates and discount coupons? Could this be why I am having a problem?

When I am setting up a discount coupon , I go to admin, then coupon admin, then insert my info and send.

For GV coupons I have status set to processing

For paypal and fre charger I have status set to processing

Oh. You didn't say you needed both for some other legitimate reason.
Yes, they can both be present.
No, that's not what's causing whatever problem you're having.

Re: Customer not able to get product using GC

Honestly, I think I am going to give up. I appreciate you sticking with me to try and solve this. You have been fantastic, trying to decipher my problem.

FYI, I even have tried emailing a certificate to see if that way would achieve my goal for my customers and it tells me it is an Invalid Gift Certificate Redemption Code and it is the one created by zen cart inserted in the email.

Re: Customer not able to get product using GC

I finally received a message from my hosting service, you had asked earlier if something had changed with them on their end and this is what they told me...

"What are the settings that we need to check on the server that might have changed.

The only thing that I am showing changing is the updates to PHP that have been pushed in the last couple of months."

Could this be my problem? and if so what settings would they need to check because I have no idea.

Re: Customer not able to get product using GC

So then, what is the problem now?

When I do the following on my site, I get the downloads immediately. What's different with yours?

  1. Add item to cart.
  2. Login
  3. Begin checkout
  4. Payment page allows me to enter coupon code, and choose PayPal
  5. On the Checkout_confirmation screen I click the confirm button
  6. It takes me to Paypal, where I login and choose my payment details.
  7. It returns me to the store, with a Thanks for Shopping message, with links to my downloads.
  8. In the admin on the list of orders, I see "paypalwpp" in the payment column and "Processing" next to my customer name in the order status column.

What's different about yours? And how is it different?

(when redemption code is emailed and Zen cart creates the code it will not accept the code.
If I create a discount coupon and generate code myself it does not apply the full amount of the coupon to the purchase thus
  5. taking me to Paypal, where I login and choose my payment details charges me for the portion that was not applied by the coupon because their isn't the box that asks you to enter the value amount of the coupon you want to apply
  6. It returns me to the store, with a Thanks for Shopping message and a message NOTE: Downloads are not available until payment has been confirmed
  7. In the admin on the list of orders, I see "paypalwpp" in the payment column and "Pending" next to my customer name in the order status column. EVEN though my settings are set to PROCESSING

Like I said, I give up. But thank you for everything.

Re: Customer not able to get product using GC

Faith516:

... charges me for the portion that was not applied by the coupon because their isn't the box that asks you to enter the value amount of the coupon you want to applyThere is never any opportunity to choose "how much" of a coupon you want to apply. It's either applied or it's not.

A gift certificate, however, is like cash, and you can choose how much to use during a particular transaction.

Faith516:

  1. In the admin on the list of orders, I see "paypalwpp" in the payment column and "Pending" next to my customer name in the order status column.
Okay ... here's something important that I kept forgetting to ask earlier (and actually got out of bed to come ask this):
  • when you're looking at that order that says pending, click on it so that it opens the details.
  • now, in the lower left corner it talks about Order Status History, and has a number of status updates with comments.
  • Post all those comments here. There are likely some clues in there as to why the order is being left in Pending status.

ie: if you're paying by echeck then the order will be pending until the echeck clears
or, if you're paying to a paypal account that's not ready for receiving payments, they will be left pending
or, if the transaction is in a currency not configured in your paypal account and you've asked paypal to let you review each transaction before activating it, then it'll be left pending.

But, without seeing those details, it's hard to tell you why it's doing something different than it normally does.
