now my checkout isn't working after installing SSL today

Hi,
Is there anybody who can look at my site and tell me why all of a sudden it won't go past the shipping (step 1 of 3) during the checkout process? I just had my host install our SSL certificate this afternoon and now its not working, is that coincidence or could it be something to do with the install?

Have you made any changes other than the ones recommended in Dr Bytes tutorial (also accessible from this thread: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147054) ?

When trying to login or checkout your pages are displaying NONSSL. Guess your configure.php files have not been amended as recommended

Your SSL appears to be working OK. But if you want advice related to your checkout process, I'd recommend that you create a test account and share the details here. You can always delete it again later.

Most people willing to help won't want to go through your account creation process, and you probably wouldn't want them cluttering up your customer data anyway

I have per unit/ weight enabled. Everything was working fine before my host installed the SSL earlier today... is it because I haven't gotten a merchant account yet and only have Paypal enabled? A customer should still be able to go past the shipping stage of the order, correct?

No this won't be related to your merchant account 9or absence therefore) or Paypal. You are right that they don't kick in until the next page (though Paypal Express appears on the Shopping Cart page, but that's still not here).

Your shipping method appears in the shipping estimator on the shopping cart page, which would usually mean that it's installed correctly (just to check, does it have a green icon alongside it in the Admin), but it doesn't appear on your checkout_shipping page.

That's very odd and unfortunately also very difficult to diagnose from the customer side of your site. I suspect that you may need to wait and hope that somebody happens along who has experienced the same problem before and gotten to the bottom of the problem, or seek help from somebody who can set some diagnostic traps in your code.

That's correct. If your checkout process was working fine before installing SSL and if the only changes you made are the required changes in your includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php files then I can't see a reason why it should not work.

The only thing that I see that may need to be changed is the Enable_SSL from false to true???

Based on your information your checkout is not running in secure mode.

Here is the recipe :smile:

1. BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP ...

2. in your admin/includes/configure.php file change this

3. in your includes/configure.php file change this

4. in Admin > Configuration set Down for Maintenance to true, exclude your IP-Address

5. now on the server set the permissions of both files from 444 to 644. If you don't change the permissions you won't be able to upload the 2 files to your server.

6. upload the changed 2 files to their respective locations. **Caution: don't mix them up, they are different!
   **

7. set the permissions back to 444

8. set Down for Maintenance to false

Hi, I did every thing and double checked it all to make sure it was right. I tried the check out and I still can't get past the step 1. This is so weird.

Is there a way that I can temporarily make the checkout Paypal Only? at least until this gets figured out? I really don't want new customers to have problems at check out, if you know what I mean...

You seem to have 2 different issues of which you have fixed one, namely the SSL issue. Appears to be working fine without errors.

Are you sure no other changes have been made since your last successful order?

You may want to do a search in the forum and look for a recommended debug tool. Install that and then check if there are any clues in the log files created.

Thanks frank18, the SSL is fixed now that I made those changes and yes you are right I had two issues but didn't realize that they were separate issues. It appears that I have a shipping module problem that wasn't there previously. I went into my "dummy" store and tried the checkout there and it works fine. I'm using perweight/unit shipping and when it comes to step one of the checkout the shipping doesn't show up, now in the "dummy" store it does. My question is would it be in the code then? Can I just copy code from my "dummy" store over to my "real" store to fix it and if so, what file would it be?

In principle that should fix it. However, I am not familiar with that mod. Ajeh would be the expert with shipping modules.

Look at includes/modules/shipping/perweightunit.php and the corresponding language file.

Do a full backup first including your DB and then upload the mod to the live server.

Please post your result when done.
