[Done v1.3.9c] downloaded file is not complete, after upgrade

Using ZC 1.3.9a
Have set up to sell a couple ebooks, but downloaded file is only 4k when the actual book is 5.5Mb. Don't even know where to start looking.

For others having this problem my problem was fixed by my host today by unsticking safe mode.

I just wanted to post this here to for tothers who may be looking for this answer.

I've just upgraded from 1.3.8 to 1.3.9a. No problems previously with download links working. Now customers get empty zip files. My admin area shows the green light that files are correctly linked.

I've checked the actual zip files and they are fine. The issue is that when a customer downloads the zip file, it's empty. I've read the other posts of others having the same issue, however I don't understand the solution.

I contacted my ipower host and asked them to "unstick safe mode". They aren't sure what I'm asking them to do. Is there another way I can ask them to do this that they may understand?

The idea of "unsticking safe mode" is something you gleaned from what one particular other user has said. Best to ask them to clarify, as that appears to be a workaround unique to their particular setup.

I've upgraded from 1.3.8 to 1.3.9a. Downloads working prior to that time. Uninstalled and reinstalled all shipping and payment modules that I use. Anything maybe I missed in the upgrade steps? Stumped!

Used to be downloading by redirect unsuccessfully (linux), however 1.3.8 worked fine by streaming per your suggestion.

Now s/p upgrading to 1.3.9a, all downloads are empty. Checked with my host and the php file is not on safe mode. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

What server type are you on?

I've been suffering the same problem for a week now. Upgraded to 1.3.9b - more problems, didn't fix the empty file problem. Stick with fixing the problem before trying to upgrade to 9b.
I also do not have unsafe mode issue, just can't download zips or epubs or pdfs.

I am also still stuck with this problem. The download is 4K. I tried to delete the existing installation, and installed the new version, 9b. But the problem is still there. There was no problems in the beginning, but then suddenly the downloads are only 4k. I wonder what could be the issue? I have tried many things, like (I posted this on a another place);
Changed permission of /pub folder and /download folder to 777
Re-uploaded the files
Deleted the products and created same new ones
Zipped the folders again and uploaded them again
Tried changing the download options, by redirect, by streaming, both false, both true, one false and the other true
Tried downloading from IE
Tried opening the file instead of saving it

• did your hosting company change software versions on the server? maybe they changed permissions?
• add new addons?
• etc

You said you upgraded after this problem started manifesting, so it's not really an upgrade issue, right?

I wasn't having any difficulties with 1.3.8. Empty zip file downloads occurred immediately after I upgraded to 1.3.9a

I also tried changing back to redirect instead of streaming, no change so I placed back to streaming. Files are linked in the download folder as directed. Folder permissions in pub 777.
Manually navigating to the folder and opening the zip file shows the file is OK.

I am using Cherry Zen template is that matters. The upgrade didn't seem to effect the template display. Functionality appears the same when in the ordering process and going to download the file... just an empty zip file.

When you use Redirect mode, it will create a new folder inside your /pub/ folder, and inside that folder will be a symlink (shortcut) for the file to be downloaded.
Can you check whether those exist? The folder will have today's date/time on it.

Next, if you put that folder and path into your browser's Address bar, will it download that file?
ie: http:// your_domain/pub/.xyzabcdefghji12345/filename.zip

And, when it downloads the file that way, is it complete?

When set to redirect, creates the folder, however it is empty. When I type the direct link I get "Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /pub/.xbuqygqyxxxxx on this server. Additionally, a 301 Moved Permanently error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." So it doesn't even create the Symlink.

I had that problem in 1.3.8 and you had me set to download by streaming and that's how I was doing it up to the upgrade to 1.3.9a

I was uploading some products and testing them t the same time and the downloads were working fine. Next day when I tried to test again they were not working anymore.
It is not an upgrade issue. I just thought that maybe I changed some settings in the a version, and decided to completely remove it and install b version when I saw it out.
I contacted the hosting company yesterday, still waiting for a reply.
