PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

The problem I am having is that paypal option never shows up as a method of payment on checkout. I have check or money order enabled as well and that shows up, but no paypal.

Version 1.39h. New install
I have checked and rechecked my eMaIL aDDresS and it is exact: [email protected]
I have checked with Pay Pal and they said nothing is wrong on their end.
I have set the instant payment notification to: http://www.knjcraftshoppe.com/ipn_main_handler.php
I have checked and reset the website payments preferences for automatic return URL to: http://www.knjcraftshoppe.com/index.php?main_page=checkout_process
Mode for paypal web services: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr
There is no SSL on my site at this time.
I have cut and pasted the PDT Token from paypal to zencart.
Encrypted website payments are off
Tax and shipping settings are off in paypal.

I have tested with IPNCHECK v1.3.9 http://knjcraftshoppe.com/ipncheck.php
returned:
CURL RESPONSE RECEIVED - Communications OKAY
IPN TESTING - Response Received via CURL -- COMMUNICATIONS OKAY
IPN TESTING - Confirmation/Validation response with fsockopen(): FSOCKOPEN() RESPONSE RECEIVED - Communications OKAY
Default method likely to be used for communications is: CURL, with the fallback method being FSOCKOPEN if possible.
Script finished.

PayPal is saying that information is never getting to their server.

I have also removed and reinstalled the paypal standard module several times to no avail.

Your assistance would be much appreciated as there is something that I must be overlooking.
The knjcraftshoppe.com is online and available and hosted by bluehost.

Sincerely,

Ken Hall

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

It could be a timeout problem. Your product images are waaay too big (file size, not dimensions). Most of them are over 1Mb.

Optimize your images and see if the problem goes away.

Also, switch to Paypal Express. Same thing to your customers, and much more stable.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

What would be the best way to reduce the file size of the images? That is an area that is very confusing to me.

PayPal told me that customers had to have paypal accounts to pay with express, that standard allowed for credit card sales as well as paypal account holders. Am I missing something. It seemed to me that express if it offered the same benefits would be a whole lot better.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

I found out how to reduce file sizes many are now in the 2-400 KB size now, just need to do all the admin stuff to swap them out.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

You page is still WAY too loaded. Total size of Home Page: 3599269 bytes. That's 3.4MB........only on one page!!
I tried 4 different speed test sites before I could even get one to load your site without timing out or exceeding the maximum limit.

That's probably the same thing that's happening with your PayPal, as stevesh suggested.

Your product images are causing most of this, as they are HUGE......both file size and dimension. This image for example, is a Whopping 10,205.3 KB!! And you have 8 more images of this similar size on your Home Page.........oh......and 3 more loaded in the sidebox. It's nice to have a detailed product image, but 800 x 600 maximum should suffice.

You should definitely install Image Handler 2 to help optimize your images.

Hope this helps.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

Reducing the file size of the images did not fix it. I am expecting something at Step 2 Payment Method along with the Check/Money Order choice which says PayPal and clicking on it would take me to PayPals site, and then once completed return me to my site.

Yes, but not NEARLY enough. IH2 will help you tremendously with this.........this is GREAT advice, and I'm sure anyone here will agree with me...........especially if the look at your site and your image sizes.

Have you tried using the PayPal Express Checkout? Better for you.......same for your customers.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

Thank you for the tip, I have installed image handler and will work further on the images as their size would defiantly impact site anyway. Then test again.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

Nice addition IH2, saved me much work, but did not resolve the problem. I am going to try the PayPal express now and see what happens. I really appreciate all the help thus far. I have been trying to get this working for 3 or more weeks as time permitted and was ready to give it up. Todays assistance has been most appreciated and gives me hope that I can get this working so I can possible get some sales eventually.

And it's not installed on your site. If you installed the files, you also need to go to Admin>Tools>Image Handler 2>admin. Then click install. If you done that, then something is wrong with it, as it's not working.

Not true. Paypal Express allows checkout without a Paypal account.

Get Em Fast:

And it's not installed on your site. If you installed the files, you also need to go to Admin>Tools>Image Handler 2>admin. Then click install. If you done that, then something is wrong with it, as it's not working.
I did that and in preview it showed me what the different size files would be, but I expected that when I moused over them on the live site that I would see more than just the images.
When in **manager **and are viewing a product image, there is a default, medium and larger image with the files properties shown, what is the next step? I clicked on info and it opened image info on the right with a choice to edit, save or new file. It is not obvious to me what is next.

Unfortunately PayPal express Access Signatures are not available right now due to PayPal updating their security. They will send me an email when the signature info is available again. So for now I have to work trying to get the Standard -- IPN working.

Thank you.

Make sure IH is turned on by going to Admin>Configuration>Images.....find: **IH resize images **and set that to "yes".

Make sure your images folder has permission settings of 777, and that bmz_cache folders' permissions are the same as your images folder.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

It appears that IH is set up correctly and I made sure the BMZ_cache and Images folders had the same attributes, BMZ was 755 and Images was 777, so I brought BMZ to 777.
I am not sure what is happening, I have made some changes to a category name, but the database does not reflect it nor does the site. Seems like the admin is not updating the DB, but IH installed just fine earlier. I had a product that was removed yet is was still showing up. I cleared the cache in the browsers and even told IE to get a new web page on every visit. All of this seems related as nothing seems to tie together as it should.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

Oh......one thing that is probably a problem is the **IH large image maximum width and height. **If you set those to be at least the size of your largest image, it may kick in.But, seriously..........those images when popped up will not even think about fitting on the screen! Your LARGEST image should NOT be over anything that will fit on the screen, as a lot of people will NEVER see the whole image because not everybody knows how to adjust the display size in their browsers.........even though, it's very simple to you and I. Most people that I've seen..........and it's been a LOT over the years.......never exceed more than 500 - 600
pixels in either direction..........and that's more than enough to show the craftsmanship and quality of your products. Resizing those to be not over 600px in the widest or tallest direction would help your tremendously slow site out a great deal.

And don't take all that the the wrong way, now........I'm not trying to criticize you, but rather help you, as I've done a LOT of work on a LOT of sites over the years, and advised a lot of people who to this day are very glad I did.

I don't and I appreciate any suggestions offered. Although I am not new to computers I am new to this area and there are a lot of points that are important that I am not aware of. Thank you for being willing to help.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

If I understand you correctly, I should have all of my source images no larger then 500 or so pixels in both directions, and the smaller the better. Then let IH2 do all the leg work for showing off the images.

Now, does that mean that I upload the same image for IH2 in each mode, default, medium and biggest?

I am going to delete all of my images from the cart first, just to clean things up then update all of the images, then upload them back to the cart.
Thanks Sailor

Just use the **Default image file **field. IH will do the rest.

Re: PayPal Standard IPN not showing up at checkout

Well I did what I said I would do, deleted all the images then used IH2 to reload the new smaller <600 Pixels in any direction as new images for each product I had. I put them under different directories (meaning instead of main directory, I may have placed an image in Home Decorating, or Yard Art) (I made sure that there were no images on the production site before I put the new ones in) and now I do not have any images showing up on the sight. I have cleared my cache, used a different browser all to no avail. (I even duplicated a group of images to the public_html/images/ folder as well as the location I had newly created.) Still no images, but the page sure loads fast :)
I am at my wits end, try to solve one problem and another shows up then another. I made some changes and checked the database in the products table and those changes were not in the DB. And yet the system had to work at one time because all the images were listed in the DB. For instance the image Lighted Spool Wht Rbn.png is really Lighted Spool Wht Rbn.jpg. It was a png when I first put it in but when I resized everything, I made them all jpg images In the DB it is a png in the image column products table, but in admin it is the jpg. I am having difficulty tracing all the data back and forth and where it should be and in what folders or where it is referenced it the database.:(
