Changing the Manufacturers drop down box to a list

I have done a search of this forum and found this question asked a few times but never answered.

I would like to change the Manufacturers drop down box to a list. In previous threads the response has been to change the 'Manufacturers List - Scroll Box Size/Style' setting in maximum values but this will only give me a bigger box, it looks very tacky.

I would like to completely remove the box and replace it with a fixed list, much like the categories are listed.

Does anyone know how this can be done?

Thanks for the link Steve but the brands logos won't really fit with the site design or in the space I have available. I also wanted the brand text there to help with google hits.

I guess it is not possible to have a manufacturers list yet without some major recoding. Fingers crossed this will be an option in the admin section in the next version of zencart

I'm not a programmer, but it seems to me that it wouldn't be that difficult to change the icon display part of that mod to show text links instead.
