Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

DarkAngel:

show us what you set the images settings to please

how about the actual store --- is it behaving there?

did you install the right IH add-on? IH3 should be the one.

manually go through and make sure you have installed the right files to the right places

link to the store product page is nice too especially if it is not working store end too

nope ih2 is what downloaded for 1.39

I just took a look - I see IH3 is listed below the 1.39 version I downloaded.

hmmmm...

perhaps I'll simply restore the site and the db and start over from scratch. I backup up everything first.

You apparently missed my previous post telling you the SAME thing..

DivaVocals:

Well to start with you might want to make sure you installed the correct version of the software.. this is the "Image Handler 3 Support Thread". You stated you installed Image handler 2, and you stated that the readme doesn't explain how to use this mod.. All of which tells me you have the WRONG/OLD version of IH installed.. Suggest you uninstall, and download and install the correct version first. Read the reame that comes with it.. It DOES indeed eplain how to setup and configure Image Handler..

After you get the right version installed, and configured properly, it'll help folks help you better if you go to page one of this support thread and read through the first three posts.. (ALL of this same information is also in the IMAGE HANDLER 3 readme)

cool beans - IH3 installed and working fairly well - some times images aren't appearing that should be but much better than before - no errors being thrown.

Lighhtbox was installed first and to be very specific - I paid particular attention to this on the Misc tab.

Zen Lightbox vs. Fual Slimbox with Image Handler3

These contributions work very similarly. Both mods include jquery or mootools, keyboard navigation, etc.

In order for them to work with Image Handler3 you must merge or replace the one file Image Handler3 has in common with both of these mods, includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/additional_images.php as follows:

Zen Lightbox - Replace the additional_images.php from Image Handler3 with the one that comes with Zen Lightbox. (Zen Lightbox has included all the merged code required for Zen Lightbox and Image Handler3 to work well together)

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

jjj0923:

bummer - I thinking I'm going to have to back this code out.

just too much strangeness going on.

product here won;t display image at all and when you click on larget image it starts to load and just hangs.

http://www.bravoshop.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66_76&products_id=1015

bummer.

  • Did you upload just a single photo per product, or did you upload small, medium, and large sizes also (using the _MED and _LRG file extensions? <which you should not do if you're using IH3>
  • How big is your largest photo in both dimension and file size?

By the way, it works fine for me. Image loads just fine, as does the lightbox image when "larger" is clicked.

I DO see what you mean about the images not always loading on refresh after refresh on this page: http://www.bravoshop.net/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=65

That's why I asked what size images you're using.

I only have one image uploaded per product with the exception of one of my products.
I would have to say the largest photo is about 2,000 x 3,000 pixels most are 600 x 800

there's one photo is particular that simply does not want to load even though the page source code served points to an image that is in the bmz_cache and it's a small image about 150 wide and none of my images have any special characters although a few have embedded spaces and one has parens

I use Netscape but the bahavior is similar in Internet Exploder

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

  1. 600x800 is ok...but those 2000x3000 are just way too large. You need to size them down because large files like that slow down the server. (yes..IH shrinks them, optimizes them, and serves them up more quickly...but the image must be reasonably sized to start with in order to obtain max performance).

  2. From the ReadMe (troubleshooting tab):

Make sure that your main product image files names DO NOT contain any special characters (non-alphanumeric characters such as / \ : ! @ # $ % ^ < > , [ ] { } & * ( ) + = ). Always use proper filenaming practices when naming your images - See this document as a reference: http://www.records.ncdcr.gov/erecords/filenaming_20080508_final.pdf\

Parens ARE special characters and therefore do not belong in file names. Neither do spaces. Use underscores instead. i.e. file_name.jpg

See if making those huge images smaller and renaming your files appropriately doesn't help solve your issues.

Good luck and happy zenning

ok - well here some other news that's odd.

one of the files that will not display is listed in pink (via putty)

I'm not a linux guru but I wonder if this means the file is currently open?

And we are not linux gurus either.. So no clue..

Suggest looking at the original image that was the source of the cached image. Follow Script Junkie's suggestions for modifying the original image if any of her suggestions regarding file names or image size applies..

I can't speak to that because I don't know anything about it. My suggestion is that before you go looking for any more weirdness... follow the steps in the readme for configuration and troubleshooting -specifically...fixing your oversized file issue and file naming issues.

See if that doesn't solve your problem.

I wonder is one of you folks much more knowledgable could point to the place in the admin code where images are actually uploaded and saved - mostly the part where products images are saved.

What are you trying to accomplish?

If what you want to know is how exactly IH3 creates images....one would have to write an entire book explaining how it all works and which files do what. IH3 is a big and powerful addon...there is no 1 file that will answer your question because all the files work together. Additionally, these files work with a separate piece of software (GD libraries or ImageMagick) to accomplish what it does.

It's just not as simple as ....."where is the code that handles IH3's main function?".

If all you want is a general understanding of how IH3 works...it's in the ReadMe file...first tab.

Image Handler3 enables you to use GD libraries or ImageMagick (if installed on your server)** to generate and resize small, medium and large images on the fly on page request.** You can simply upload just one image or you can have different sources for medium and large images. Image Handler3 further enables you to watermark your images (overlay a second specific translucent image) and have medium or large images pop up when you move your mouse over a small image (fancy hover).

The images that IH3 creates are stored in the bmz_cache folder, located in the store root. Your original images that you upload are stored in whatever image folder or subfolder that you uploaded them to.

Nothing to do with IH, But this is why that happens

Have a look at the file extension of the pink ones notice it is jpg rather than JPG

Depending on how your server or ftp client is set up it may only recognise jpg as images and not JPG, this won't effect the working of the site, or anything like that its just an internal filter, its actauall fairly common
for instance if you use the file manager that comes with cpanel

it displays the file type of

.jpg as image/x-generic and
.JPG as text/x-generic

it won't effect your site in anyway, in your case your ftp client probably has a filter that displays known image types with a certain colour - you would probably just need to add to its definitions

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

I'm not interested in where IH3 save the image I already know that.

I'm interested in the exact place in the code where the standard version of Zencart 1.39 actually saves the uploaded image. I have another project in mind and since people here are very familiar with the code I figured I'd ask here first.

thanks in advance.
