Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

Dothra:

Sorry if this post isn't allowed, but I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading from Image Handler 2 to number 3, if it will solve my problem I'm having? This what I posted in the other support thread and I'm wondering if upgrading will resolve it...
Thank you

If your only issue is that the case of your image file extensions is not consistent (some are JPG while others are jpg, for example), then yes...upgrading will solve your problem.

More advice has been posted to you on the IH2 support thread where you posted your original question.

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

Well, I thought due to the fact that IH3 resizes all the pictures that it would be the way to unhance the sizes of the page listed, obviously I was wrong about that.

I had already made a thread about this in the layout section;

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192415

No one has been able to really help

IH does not enlarge images. It takes a large image (You should upload the largest sized image you want displayed), and makes it smaller for faster loading...displaying only the largest version on hover. Read the Readme file for information on how to use and configure IH3 in order to get the most out of it.

Regarding your next steps: I've answered you on the thread you created

Good luck and happy Zenning :smile:

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

Recently upgraded to IH3 from IH2, but that's irrelevant.

I've got a problem - since the camera my mum uses is set to make a new folder every day (makes it easier to organise things), the names of the files are numbers are saved subsequently. For example, there is a folder from yesterday and a folder for today. 10 photos were taken in both days. In EACH of the folders have the names of the images as '01.JPG' all the way to '010.JPG' in each folder. They collide with each other - I mean like, if I upload a product using the image '38.JPG', then if I ever upload another product called '38.JPG', all of the additional images are added on to that product, creating a problem.

Is there a way around this?

The best bet is never to use numeric filenames for exactly this reason. Rename them to something that realtes to the product. this will help in three ways

  1. No more overwriting when you upload
  2. You can see easily what the photo refers to
  3. You can add multiple images to a product easier because fred1, fred2, fred3 etc will always show in the product fred without having to do anything clever

I'd love to do that instead but unfortunately the only way the camera names images is numerically. I'd name the files separately (well, my mum would), but it involves far too much effort for the prices she sells some of her items (she only has 1 of each product and sells them for like £5.99 each). Isn't there a way around this?

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

Sometimes the camera settings allow you to NOT start the numbering again from scratch - my small cannon certainly does. Check in the preferences menu - or it may be mentioned in the manual

Unfortunately, after that you are stuck, since storing them in multiple subdirectories will mean you have to tell zen cart where to find them each time - for instance when you set up the product, instead of pointing to the main folder to store the picture, you will have to point to the correct sub folder. So you will end up with a structure like

images
images/2012
images/2012/2012-01-01

etc

all of these subfolders could have images in of the same name since IH3 creates its own names to store the resized images I think

Thanks a lot for your help, I double checked the camera settings, found an option, changed it and then took a few pictures - they're being named differently now. Thanks! ^^

Isn't there a way around this?No.. this behavior is not caused by Image Handler. It's default Zen Cart behavior since the file names is how Zen Cart links additional images to a product.. Please refer back tot he IH3 readme.. We provide a link to the Zen Cart FAQ and other articles on this..

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

a couple of questions...

  1. will this mod allow me to watermark images that have already been uploaded?

  2. will this mod allow to to resize images that have already been uploaded?

  3. I always like to be safe and compare the source code supplied to what I already have on the site and noticed this dicrepancy?

the module supplied with image handler is on the left and my standard module that it wants to replace is on the right?

any cause for concern before overwriting the standard module?

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes.
  3. The screen shots are too small to see any detail. If you have any code that conflicts with this mod's code...you will need to merge your files carefully. If you don't know how to do that...best that you hire someone to do it for you. I believe there's a section of the forum that contains a link to a site where one can find individuals proficient in ZC.

thanks - I've already merged what needs to be merged.

the code on the right that's not in the module supplied with this mod is:

  $products_image_base = preg_replace('/'.$products_image_extension.'/', '', $products_image);
  $products_image_medium = $products_image_base . IMAGE_SUFFIX_MEDIUM . $products_image_extension;
  $products_image_large = $products_image_base . IMAGE_SUFFIX_LARGE . $products_image_extension;

  // check for a medium image else use small
  if (!file_exists(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'medium/' . $products_image_medium)) {
    $products_image_medium = DIR_WS_IMAGES . $products_image;
  } else {
    $products_image_medium = DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'medium/' . $products_image_medium;
  }
  // check for a large image else use medium else use small
  if (!file_exists(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'large/' . $products_image_large)) {
    $products_image_large = $products_image_medium;
  } else {
    $products_image_large = DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'large/' . $products_image_large;
  }

which is replaced in the new module supplied in this mod with just the following:

  $products_image_base = preg_replace('/'.$products_image_extension . '$/', '', $products_image);
  $products_image_medium = DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'medium/' . $products_image_base . IMAGE_SUFFIX_MEDIUM . $products_image_extension;
  $products_image_large = DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'large/' . $products_image_base . IMAGE_SUFFIX_LARGE . $products_image_extension;

I use Beyond Compare from Scooter Software to compare modules - it's great and the free trial never expires.

Just follow the install instructions and you'll be fine..

jjj0923:

thanks - I've already merged what needs to be merged.

Oh it eventually expires.. just takes a long time because of the way they count the number of trial days.. Invest in the software.. worth the cost.. Free updates.. (something the trial version doesn't get you)

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

ok - need some help before I make a mistake. I uploaded the code as per the instrcutions

so - then I went to the tools and selected Image Handler2 from the menu and I clicked Install

I then went to Configuration/Images and updated a few settings regarding watermarks,

so - then I went to Tools/IM/Manager and see the list of my categories and selected a category with just two products.

The first of the two products is displayed by default and it shows the default medium and large all set at 600 x 450.

I thought this product would resize images for me and apply watermarks?

how is this done.

the readme.html file goes noticably silent and ends before it explains how to actually resize images. ??? I'm siting here with three images on the screen all showing the same size and not a single line of documentation explaing what I need to do now.

I was told this add-on would resize my images but right now I'm at a loss as to how to use it.

can I get some help here?

thanks!

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

Well to start with you might want to make sure you installed the correct version of the software.. this is the "Image Handler 3 Support Thread". You stated you installed Image handler 2, and you stated that the readme doesn't explain how to use this mod.. All of which tells me you have the WRONG/OLD version of IH installed.. Suggest you uninstall, and download and install the correct version first. Read the reame that comes with it.. It DOES indeed eplain how to setup and configure Image Handler..

this problem has been fixed but many images have simply stopped appearing altogether.

do I have to go through each product and have their images redisplayed or something?

it's very weird.

I pick a product and sometimes their images display (on the manager screen) and sometimes they don;t display - no errors are being thrown.

for instance - I just clicked 'display' of one of my products on the Manager screen and only the medium image displayed - nothing displayed in the default or large then when I click back to display the first of two products all three images display and then when clicking back to the second product - all three images display this time.

if this a caching situation?

show us what you set the images settings to please

how about the actual store --- is it behaving there?

did you install the right IH add-on? IH3 should be the one.

manually go through and make sure you have installed the right files to the right places

link to the store product page is nice too especially if it is not working store end too

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

the store is behaving weird also.
I have zen lightbox installed also

here's a link : http://www.bravoshop.net/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=66_76

sometime all the images appear, sometimes not.

are the small, medium and large images created on an "as needed" basis and then cached?

since there's not 'batch' creation of the new images in multiple sizes how exactly does this add-on create the three different sized images in preparation for display.

ps: are the watermarks added on the fly or are new images created with the watermarks permanently affixed?
