I've submitted v1.3.0 to the Plugins area; it should be available there shortly. Features:

2. Added the capability to require the customer's country during account creation via admin configuration setting.

3. If the country is enabled, a customer can choose the value during account creation and change it using their account_edit page.

4. If the country is not enabled, the entry_country_id field in each customer's address record is set to the "Default Create Account Country ID".

5. The first time someone accesses your admin after you copy the files, any 0-value entry_country_id fields in your database's address_book table are set to your store's "Default Create Account Country ID".

6. Since the country is a demographic item only, it's not displayed on a customer invoice.

I see that you have also updated thishttp://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1597 add-on too. I am having a small issue with merging the respective file \includes\modules\pages\account_edit\header_php.php as both mods use this file. I've got it working without bringing across all the changes in the file.

Actually I hide the City field, and rename "Country" to "City". Also, I'm using the Selectable Countries plugin to disabled all the countries except Hong Kong. However, I failed.

After the first try, I try to do the opposite: hide "Country" and just leave "City" alone. But I still got the warning box.

Is there a way to either 1.)remove "Country" field (& disable the warning box) or 2.)just disable the warning box?
I'd tried to edit "jquery_form_check.php" & "tpl_module_create_account.php" to suit my content.

To clarify, this mod is for a store that sells downloadable products only.
I'd suggest you install one mod at a time, test it thoroughly then start with the next mod.
Selectable Countries works fine with Minimum Account mod.

Eva, like picandnix indicated, Minimum Customer Account supports stores that sell only virtual (i.e. downloads and/or services) products and your store has physical products.

That said, you want to remove this plugin from your store. Then set your store's default country to Hong Kong (Configuration->My Store->Country) and use a combination of the Zen Cart admin's Configuration->Minimum Values (setting the minimum length of the City to 0) and Configuration->Customer Details to define which customer fields you need.

You can then use CSS on the login and create_account pages to "hide" the display of both the Country and City fields (make sure that you have text somewhere that indicates that all addresses entered are assumed to be in Hong Kong). That way, you won't get the error message about the invalid country and all your addresses will be Hong Kong-based.

v1.4.1 (which corrects the Telephone issue) is now available for download from the Plugins.

this works great and when someone signs up they dont have to give their address.

but if a guest goes to buy and uses the paypal button their account is created by paypal and they send the customers address. is there a way to stop this or is it a paypal problem.

Is it a big problem having that unnecessary information? I don't mean that in a derogatory way, but is it actually a business problem?

its not a big problem but having the minimum amount of information stored in a store that only does virtual products is better than having personal information that is not needed. especially on the net.

the whole point of this is to keep the minimum of information given/stored and so this is just a glitch but one i want to fix :D

garabaldi, this plugin's purpose is to limit the amount of information collected during a "normal" Zen Cart create-account process; the information collected when the customer creates an account using the Express Checkout button's processing is beyond its scope. If you don't want your customer accounts created by PayPal, you could always disable the Express Checkout button.
