Bristol Lace Template Support Thread

motherwestwind:

This is my latest error log. I don't understand it as when I compared a newly downloaded Bristol Lace template the file that is in the error message isn't part of Bristol Lace but rather part of Dover.

[06-Jul-2014 16:20:07] PHP Fatal error: Class 'splitPageResults' not found in /home2/nickhyde/public_html/myadminname/includes/modules/bristol_lace/product_listing.php on line 30

If you read the readme.html file for the Dover Fine template, you will see that the includes/classes/split_page_results.php file is changed in that template package. If you do not want to use the Dover Fine template, you should restore the backup of this file. See the uninstall instructions of the same readme.html.

Thanks,

Anne

Un=install directions:

<<Remove all files in the template package.>> - that's what I tried to do but it won't let go of the split page

<<Restore your back ups of the core overwrite files.>> Which files are these?

There is a list further up in the installation instructions in the pre-installation steps.

Re: Bristol Lace Template Support Thread

Thank you that did the trick.

I do have to lodge a complaint though on your read me file. Perhaps you might consider recoding it as a responsive design so that it works on a little laptop. The big stationary banner makes it hard to read the info below so that it's easy to skip pertinent information that bugs you every time we newbies ask you. Just sayin' it might be easier if the banner didn't take up half the screen.

I will make a note of the change you have requested. Unfortunately, re doing the readme's is way down on my list of priorities. If I got more donations to the free template project I could devote more time to doing things like this (shameless begging, I know

Thanks,

Anne

Re: Bristol Lace Template Support Thread

Thank you for adjusting the banner above the read me file, it certainly helps on a small monitor.

I have two questions.

First. When I try to add in products to my cart on the main category list page (rather than the individual products page) I get an error stating the I would be loosing my secure connection to the cart. When I shift templates this message doesn't happen so there is something out of sync with my installation of the Bristol Lace template. Any thoughts on how to correct this error message?

Second question. I have lost the styling of my admin panel and it doesn't matter which template I'm using. Where should I look to fix that problem?

The template does not inherently have any problems with ssl. It sounds like you have added images and/or links that are hard coded and serving up the insecure content on the page.

The template doesn't have anything to do with the admin.

Anne

It's odd but it only happens with both your Sheffield and Bristol Lace templates, whereas with a couple of other different templates the warning window doesn't show up. What makes your templates unique to this problem?

Re: Bristol Lace Template Support Thread

Is there any plans to create a dynamic version of this Template at all in the near (or far) future?

I do plan on making all of the "legacy" free template packages responsive but have no release dates other than sometime in the future. If someone wanted to sponsor the conversion of a particular template package I could move it to the top of the queue and offer a completion time.

Thanks,

Anne

Re: Bristol Lace Template Support Thread

I recently installed this template on a new bookstore site we're building, but I'm having some problems with it. The url is http://alanachurch.com/library/ and fair warning, it is an adult bookstore.

I worked my way through the enclosed FAQ document, but changes I'm making don't seem to be taking hold. I completely deleted out the contents of some files (stylesheet_footer_menu.css, for example), but no changes were actually appearing on the site. And yes, I verified that I was uploading them to the proper directory. LOL I finally just reinstalled the template from scratch since nothing I was doing was working.

So here are my questions:

  1. At least 50% of the time when the page loads, there's a huge empty gap at the top of the page. It goes away once the page is reloaded, but why is this happening and how can I get it to stop?

  2. I changed the dimensions of the logo.png per your instructions, but it's coming out grainy and distorted. I also need to move it down some; there's space above the lettering in the png, but it's not visible on the page. Please help?

  3. How do I get rid of the scrolling banner along the top? I tried removing the sections of code that dealt with it, but it didn't seem to do any good. Is it being called from multiple files?

  4. Right now all existing book listings are showing up under a clickable "New" link on the index page. How can I get them to simply "show up" on the first page without having to click on a link first? (I'll worry about randomizing them later.)

  5. When I tried installing ch_categories, which I've used on several other sites, it showed the full directory listing with subcats, but none of the book listings would show up at all, so I deactivated it. How can I get the subcats to show on the stock directory listing?

  6. I like the red bar at the top, but I want to get rid of all the drop-down links and just use it for accent. How can I get rid of them? Inspecting the elements and removing the codes in the various .css files didn't do anything.

  7. I'd like to get rid of the text links and buttons along the bottom, too. Please help?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I really hope you can help me solve these problems. Otherwise I'll have to use a different template, and I really like the colors and layout of this one.

Thank you!!
