Re: cannot get past accepting liscense

Try reloading the /zc_install directory to your server ... see if it might just be issues with bad files ...

Also look in the directory /logs and see if you see any debug log files ...

Re: cannot get past accepting liscense

You'll need to make the /cache/ and /logs/ folders writable so that it can store temporary information there during installation.
That's one common cause of it not proceeding past the license screen.

Re: cannot get past accepting liscense

maria82g:

i did make these writeable

777 or 775 or 755 ?

All of these are 'writable' permissions.

777 is often considered too insecure and will produce a server error.

755 is best if allowed by any given server.

775 tends to work without problem with most servers.

Hope this helps, but as DrByte stated, these file permissions are just one possible cause of your problem (albeit, this is probably the most common cause, and therefore we must eliminate this possibility before considering others).

From a support perspective, this scenario is our worst nightmare.

Until now you never mentioned that you had been having a problem with V1.3 and/or adding stuff to the cart, etc.

We had no idea you had switched hosts.

We have no idea when your problem(s) started.

The 'common cause' of the symptom you originally reported no longer applys.

It is possibly that we can assume that there may be a common factor between the initial V1.3 problem and the installation problem with V1.5, but it is a bit of a stretch. Best I could say is its 'something to do with session data'

It's a tough call as to which direction you should take from here... So tough, I'm not even going to try. Simply put, as a result of all the changes combined, it is pretty much a matter of 'anything goes'.

For your sake, I hope that at least something is being saved in the log/cache folder that will give you some clues.

Cheers

Just the folder, BUT, I have to ask, what are/were 'all the files inside' the /log/ folder? What about the /cache/ folder?

There should usually only be a couple of files in each of these (and their permissions rarely ever need changing).

If there are lots of files, and they have a name like "myDEBUG......log" have a read of the 'newest' ones with a text editor like Notepad, these will generally tell you exactly what is going wrong.

Re: cannot get past accepting liscense

ok simple when i posted this issue I was trying to install a fresh copy of zencart v 1.5 , but i could not get past accepting the license, i tried everything, everyone suggested here and it did not work, so NOW

I tried uploading my previous saved version of zencart v1.3 , which is giving me this error , so if it is such a worst nightmare I will try not using zencart at all! and try some other cart now

I don't know if I should laugh or cry. I see that you've done what you said, and have tried another cart.

I also see that you are having the exact same problem installing this other cart (PrestaShop) as you are ZenCart...
IOW, you can't even get past the Installation screen.

So, where do you go from here? I guess you could ask in the prestashop forums for help (if you haven't already done so) but after a few days of no response I expect that you will end up back here seeking our help again.

Alas, there isn't much that we can do or say to help in this situation. What with your V1.3.x problem, the V1.5.x problem, and now a PrestaShop install problem, combined with a change of hosts thrown into the mix the possibilities are endless.

It is my opinion that there is something fundamentally flawed with your servers setup that will probably require the help of your hosting company to fix. Alas, I'm still a bit doubtful here because I/we still don't know the order of events that has led to your current predicament.

Whatever the cause, it should be obvious to you by now that it really isn't a ZenCart issue. Nonetheless we are still here to help if we can, and at the moment, the best advice I can give is for you to seek help from your current host.

Cheers

Re: cannot get past accepting liscense

my dearest!!! I LOVE zencart and never tried or wanted to try any other ever!! because it is the only one i understand, i installed zencart for several of my friends, the very reason i tried prestashop was to diagnose whether the prob was with zencart or server, before laughing at me or finding this situation so funny you should have tried to think about it at least, I have my zencart backed up and once i solve the issue i will be reverting back to it, i do not have to prove my loyalty to zencart , I am not bound to do so, your post seems extremely sarcastic, Thank you for that and you are wrong, I did have response there too, my main issue here is to figure out the problem, since i am clear now it is server problem as i posted in prestashop too, I will work accordingly

"So, where do you go from here? I guess you could ask in the prestashop forums for help (if you haven't already done so) but after a few days of no response I expect that you will end up back here seeking our help again."

No Thanks! I won't come back here "begging" for your help!

Re: cannot get past accepting liscense

Hi Maria,

You have somehow read far more into my postings than intended. Can we try afresh?

maria82g:

the very reason i tried prestashop was to diagnose whether the prob was with zencart or server

Although an extreme measure to take, I wasn't criticising you for this. If you had hung around a little longer I/we could have given you plenty of less drastic options to prove/disprove the same point.

maria82g:

before laughing at me or finding this situation so funny you should have tried to think about it at least,

I wasn't laughing at you, or the situation. My feelings on this initially went both ways. I could either have laughed at your plight (as you think I am/was doing), or I was able to 'cry' in sympathy with your plight. If I were going to laugh at you I could have more easily done that simply stating that you did this and gained nothing from it. I probably would also have added an 'LOL' somewhere in my post.

In contrast, I'd seen where you'd come from, I'd seen your current prestashop issue, and even though I had no idea if you would come back here or not, I realised that either way, you would still be needing more help. Although I was/still unable to tell you the exact cause of your problems I gave you the best advice I could based on the observations made throughout this thread. Would I do this if I didn't sympathise with your plight? Does this really seem like the actions of someone that just wants to laugh at you or the problems you are having?

Yes, I CAN see this as a laughable situation if my intent was to put you down in some way, but I have no need or reason to do that.

maria82g:

i do not have to prove my loyalty to zencart ,

Neither do I. Think about this a little. You reported a problem to us Zenners. We gave you what help and advice we could, based on the information provided.
You (apparently) took exception to the advice and installed a different shopping cart.
I observed that you were having a similar problem with PrestasShop.. On reflection, I should have kept that observation to myself, but that would be of no help to you, SO, what did I do? I came back to the ZenCart forum (figuring you'd eventually be back anyway) and proceeded to give you advice on what you need to do to fix you PrestaShop issue.... and I did this in the ZenCart forum.

maria82g:

I am not bound to do so, your post seems extremely sarcastic, ,

Wonderful. I go out of my way to follow through with your issues. I start to provide you with PrestaShop support in a ZenCart forum, and somehow or other, that is being considered sarcastic.

maria82g:

Thank you for that and you are wrong,

If you knew me at all, you would know that I actually love to be wrong. As a general rule, when I'm wrong about something it means good news for someone.

However, I'm also a very cynical person.

maria82g:

I did have response there too,

Although somewhat surprised, I'm pleased to hear it.
This is/was another case where I was trying to spare you a little grief/frustration based on my own experience(s), which has taught me that any form of useful support from the prestashop forums is kinda rare (especially compared to the support found in the ZenCart forums). OK, so I was apparently wrong about this, and they did respond with useful info in less time than I expected. However, I was right in expecting to see you back here. I can only assume you came back simply to criticise me for trying to help you, or, the help you received from the PrestShop folk wasn't quite as helpful as you imply.

maria82g:

my main issue here is to figure out the problem

That is also why I'm here. It is also why I was interested enough in your problem to follow it up even after you'd apparently thrown in the towel with Zen and tried to install another cart, and why I've taken all these facts, put them together and came to the conclusion that is now clear to you... namely...

maria82g:

, since i am clear now it is server problem

maria82g:

"So, where do you go from here? I guess you could ask in the prestashop forums for help (if you haven't already done so) but after a few days of no response I expect that you will end up back here seeking our help again."

No Thanks! I won't come back here "begging" for your help!

Which thesaurus are you using? I've looked at several, and none of them indicate 'seeking' is a synonym for 'begging'.

Besides, no one around here needs to beg for help.. it is often given even without the asking. You didn't ask me to help you solve a PrestaShop install problem, but I gave the best advice I could anyway. No sarcasm involved. No laughing at your plight. These things are both in your mind only.

My comment that you'll probably be back is/was based on experience (PrestaShop support is generally pretty poor) . There was and is no 'emotion' involved in any way shape or form. I simply state the facts as I see/know them. I have no idea who you are (not important). It doesn't bother me if you are having a problem with ZenCart, PrestaShop, OpenCart, OSCmax, Interspite, Magento, or any other shopping cart... To me, it isn't important. What is important to me is that there is a problem/mystery to be solved, and I'd like to help to solve it. I can only do that if you let me/us though.

OK, now that I have (hopefully) shown you that there is nothing 'personal' in any of my replies/comments, and I'm happy to offer support even if not ZenCart related, I will try to emphasis a little more of my personal experience with the various shopping carts. It isn't much of a secret that I've developed code/modules for many different stores. This has given me a bit of 'unique' experience in that I am not only familiar with the benefits/pitfalls of the software itself, it also means that I am a registered/active participant in the support forums for the various carts. This experience has taught me many things, and like most things I've learned, I simply love to share, so here goes.....
ZenCart is without any doubt the best eCommerce system available (in my opinion). If I found/find one better, I'd be using it for our own stores. In itself this is just a minor thing. Of more importance, is the support available (and this is why I was pretty confident that you'd be back). I don't wish this to go to anyones head, but after years of frequenting the support forums for the various carts, I have come to the conclusion that the ZenCart forums are frequented by some of the best coders and developers on the planet. More than that though, not only are they the best, but they are willing to share their skills/knowledge with little to no concern of recompense. This is why there is no need to 'beg' for help. ZenCart and its forums are really special in this regard.
Even though I know these to be facts, I appreciate that at the moment you probably still think I have some ulterior motive, or I'm simply being arrogant, and that you are quite likely to have a kneejerk reaction. This emotional reaction will (again) be to your detriment. There is nothing I can do about this except to plead with you to take personality out of the equation and try to concentrate on the problem(s) at hand. If I have anything to criticism you for, it isn't because you elected to go your own path, it is because you have elected to allow your emotions to drive you down that path.

You may find some (perhaps all) of what I am saying as somehow being offensive (perhaps I don't put enough smilies in my postings? ;) but even if that is the case, the advice I provide is generally pretty sound, and always presented with good intent. You may not like how or what I say, but that is no reason to cause yourself further grief by 'retaliating'.

You may think I have been laughing at you, but the reality is, I feel a little guilty that you probably read more into my reply#10 than you should have, and that I was in someway responsible for you trying the PrestaShop install as a result. No Zenner should need to go to this extreme to 'prove a point', yet I feel that I inadvertently drove you in that direction. :(

I am hoping I haven't just made the same mistake again. (I have no control over how any given posting is going to be perceived by any given person at any given time). You may hate me and/or my 'attitude', I can live with that, but for your own sake, the facts and advise I present are for your own good (and the benefit of others). Please try to keep this in mind when reading my posts. I get no pleasure from seeing people struggling with a problem. My pleasure comes from helping find the solution.

Cheers
Rod

Yup, definitely a serious misconfiguration of the server. Only your hosting company's server administrators can fix that problem. Nothing you can do about it, except rattle their cage!

Re: cannot get past accepting liscense

maria82g:

your hoster should check this

Although this is a definite hosting issue, there are actually a few things here that don't quite sit well with me. (Please feel free to ignore all of the following as it probably won't be much help to you anyway. To me, there is still a mystery to be solved).

Firstly, you previously stated that you changed hosts. If you made this change because of a similar problem with the original host and the problem followed your site, then there is probably a bit more to this than meets the eye. The odds of you having two hosts in succession with the exact same server issues is taking coincidence a little too far.

It is possible that you have a faulty/corrupt php.ini file that was copied from one server to the other during your migration.

The other thing that doesn't seem right is that the 'error' messages you've reported are actually 'Warnings' rather than errors. As a general rule these 'Warnings' are pretty harmless, and any problems caused are directly related to those particular warnings... In your case pdo_mysql. The symptoms you are getting aren't typical of an SQL related problem.

There is also a bit of a history to the pdo_ extensions. In the early days (<PHP 5.2 (?) this (and other extensions) needed to be specifically compiled into PHP. Later versions of PHP have them complied in by default, so with a contemporary installation your shouldn't be getting this error in the 1st place.

The portion of the error log that reads..................
Module compiled with module API=20100525
PHP compiled with module API=20090626
.............Is suggesting that there is a version mismatch between the PHP version being used and the module being used. This is usually/always the servers administrators' screwup, BUT, it can also be caused by a misconfiguration in the php.ini file (possibly because it was copied from one server to another?)

So in summary, yes it is still definitely a server error, and under normal circumstances I'd be saying that only your host can resolve the problem. However, this isn't a normal circumstance... The spanner in the works is the fact that you changed hosts, and the question of whether the problem has followed your store/site or whether this a a new problem with the new host is yet to be answered.

So, since there is this little bit of doubt in my mind, and since it is possible that the problem has followed your site, I have two suggestions that may resolve the problem without getting your host involved.

Firstly, look for a file called 'php.ini' in your /public_html and/or store folders. If you find any, try renaming them (php.ini_bak) and see if the problems go away.
Secondly, log into your cPanel and look for the 'software/services' section and see if you have an option to select a different PHP version. If so, try changing to a different version and see if that takes care of the problem for you.

If neither of these things work or apply, then you've done all you possibly can (and probably more than you you need to). Even if one of these is the 'cause' of the problem, your host should be able to identify and fix the issue without any trouble (In other words, don't feel obliged to follow my suggestions, because they really are things that few people would ever have a reason or need to mess with, and technically it isn't your problem to fix). I'm making these suggestion on the basis that if I'm correct, it will be a quicker fix for you than waiting for your host to identify the problem.

I will also add that I am probably totally off the mark here anyway...... its just that I have that niggling feeling that there is still a little more going on here than meets the eye...... perhaps I'm just looking to solve a mystery that doesn't really exist. :)

Cheers

Re: cannot get past accepting liscense

PS. The other thing that doesn't quite sit right with the "pdo_mysql.so" diagnosis is what I'm seeing in your current /printables/install page.

This page doesn't appear to have any relationship/connectivity to mysql at all. In fact it is a rather simple HTML page with a little bit of JavaScript that seems to be stuck in some kind of endless loop... Click a radio button and it resets itself. Very strange behaviour with no apparent server involvement at all (?)

I seem to be having a bit of a brain lapse at the moment though. I know that this is almost certainly an important/relevant observation (possibly even more relevant than what is being seen in the log files), but I'm not quite understanding what it is telling me/us.

OTOH, this could be yet another 'side effect' of something more fundamentally wrong.

DrByte, do you have any further ideas about this? Am I missing the bleeding obvious again?

Cheers

Those are worthwhile suggestions, given the logic you followed to arrive at them.

And again, as you say, a competent host would be able to spot those and fix them in a flash ... and would be familiar with the symptoms to immediately know what the cause was.

As you say, there's a lot missing here about "why the change of hosts" in the first place, and so on.
