DivaVocals:
the configure.php files (admin and storefront) get created and during the Zen Cart install.. V1.6.x does this no differently.. The dist-configure.php as I've always understood them are SAMPLE files.. they can be deleted from your store as they are not used/needed..
Bottomline is I am not doing a local install and transferring it to my webhost (or I would have said that in my initial post).. I created a subdomain so that I can create a clean VIRGIN Zen Cart v1.6.x install for testing, and for reasons that escape me NONE of the store or admin images display... I get 403 error when I try to view images directly.. I JUST wiped out the test store and re-uploaded the v1.6.x files and repeated the install and got the EXACT same result. (no images on the admin and storefront -- 403 errors)..
Not sure why, and I'd like to buy a vowel please..

Still not sure why, but when using firebug with firefox, if prepended the broken images src with / then image would show. Is there either something different about your configure.php file(s) or about how your htaccess/server redirect is getting to this folder? Further, I noticed as I said the picture of buttons appears, these pictures are in your main images folder; however, other images that do not work are in a sub-directory off of the images folder, but adding the forward slash to the src=" " before the images folder seems to fix the issue and allow the image(s) to show. Is there a logic error in the install procedure?
Maybe something in the template? Noticed that the template being used has been modified from the default 1.6 template... Don't know if there is anything related to that there.... :/
