Access Blocker Support Thread

Zen Cart 2.1.0
Php Version: 8.3.20

@lat9 thanks for the quick debug fix which I applied.
I noticed last night in admin/ configuration/ access blocker setting that the sort order was different from my prior Version 1.5.2 so I looked into the data base to double check the sort_order the ScriptedInstaller.php loads. Every sort_order have this number: 2147483647 for the new 13 VALUES in the database.

Sigh, did you ever have one of those days?

I'll get this captured on GitHub later, but you can change the version's /Installer/ScriptedInstaller.php, line 30, from

                (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, date_added, use_function, set_function)

to

                (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, date_added, sort_order, use_function, set_function)

Re: Access Blocker Support Thread

I keep getting hammered on a daily basis.

"Next Illuminate\Database\QueryException: SQLSTATE[HY000] [1226] User 'o12804405' has exceeded the 'max_user_connections' resource (current value: 20) (SQL: select * from zencrt_plugin_control where (status = 1) order by name asc, unique_key asc) in /laravel/vendor/illuminate/database/Connection.php:760"

I'm still trying to figure out if all these are actually coming from people abusing the site or if I have an issue with my actual database. Full disclosure, this is on a beta site that I update with the latest changes on ZC GitHub. That aside, there is a tooltip that says adding an ip with just the first 2 subsets will block an entire range.

" If you enter only the upper segments of an IP address, e.g. 192.168.1., all matching IP addresses, e.g. 192.168.1.0-192.168.1.255 will be blocked."

I have tried this by just adding 34.174. but I continue to see a new address daily from that range that I then need to specifically block (34.174.234.230) am I doing something wrong? Do I need to add 3 sets 34.174.1. ?

Thank you in advance.

Setting a to-be-blocked IP address of 34.174. should do the trick, preventing that address from creating accounts, sending contact-us email and the like.

What Access Blocker doesn't do is fully limit the selected IP addresses; that's what IP blocking in the site's .htaccess file is for.

Re: Access Blocker Support Thread

Hi Cindy - I am trying out version 1.5.2 (since I am still running zc1.5.8a). I notice that even though the plugin has been enabled for 30 minutes, I am seeing a spike in the ipdata dashboard. Would this be because we had the "Totally restrict access on threats?" set to true?

If so, that initial usage threshold of 1,500 is going to be used up within an hour! See image screenshot below.

Yes, if "Totally restrict access" is enabled then every page access is checked and, if the access is associated with a threat, the session's closed so there's no record of it having been a threat if accessed again.

Thanks! So I just turned off the "Totally restrict access." Am I correct in understanding that if I see any usage on the ipdata website, that represents actual form submissions that were blocked (on the ccontact_us, ask_a_question, create_account, guest checkout and login pages)? Or are those hits just ANY submission of those forms, and not necessarily a threat?

I ask because our site can get pretty busy (with spiders, bots, or just customers) and I see that ipdata steadily rising 1-2 points a minute. Trying to know if the data I'm seeing represents actual threats blocked or just lookups.

Without totally restricting access, the hits will be for the pages you identified and the IP address is saved in the session, so it's only one 'hit' per session.

Re: Access Blocker Support Thread

Cindy - I wanted to ADD something to the script, and I'm wondering what I may be doing wrong.

The script is working great, but we have another module (the AJAX FAQ Module [https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1757] which lets us publish answered Questions to the product info page). This is really helpful for customers to see other asked questions without submitting the same thing over and over to us.

ANYWAY - I want to filter that AJAX FAQ form through the Access Blocker as well so that it blocks any banned IP address from submitting spam.

I tried to do this but it wasn't working:

In auto.access_blocker.php:

I added this:

$this->attach(
                $this,
                [
                    'NOTIFY_FAQ_QUESTION', // <------- I ADDED THIS NOTIFIER WHICH I CREATED IN THE FAQ Module constructor
                    'NOTIFY_CONTACT_US_CAPTCHA_CHECK',
                    'NOTIFY_CREATE_ACCOUNT_CAPTCHA_CHECK',
                    'NOTIFY_PROCESS_3RD_PARTY_LOGINS',
                    'NOTIFY_OPC_GUEST_CHECKOUT_OVERRIDE',
                    'NOTIFY_ASK_A_QUESTION_CAPTCHA_CHECK',
                ]
            )

I then copied and pasted this CASE block into the auto.access_blocker.php:

case 'NOTIFY_FAQ_QUESTION':
                // -----
                // If either the 'email' or 'enquiry' posted via the form is empty, perform a "quick return"
                // (to prevent PHP notices generated for those 'missing' values); the base header_php.php will
                // kick the request back.
                //
                if (empty($_POST['email_address']) ) {
                    return;
                }

                if (!$this->isEmailWhitelisted($_POST['email_address']) && ($this->isEmailAddressBlocked($_POST['email_address']))) {
                    $this->logBlockedAccesses('FAQ Question Submit', $_POST['email_address']);
                    $this->denyIfThreatAccessRestricted();

                    zen_redirect(zen_href_link(FILENAME_CONTACT_US, 'action=success', 'SSL'));
                }
                break;

That is basically the same code you have for blocking the Contact Us page, except the form field for email is different because this is how the email address field is labeled with that plugin:

<input class="form-control" type="text" name="email_address" size="50" placeholder="Please enter your email address">

Anyway, I did all that, and then added my email address to the Access Blocker's BLACKLIST, and submitted the form using my blocked email. However, the email was still delivered.

Am I missing something on how to extend the plugin to cover this form?

Re: Access Blocker Support Thread

Jeff, that NOTIFY_FAQ_QUESTION notification should be placed at a point where the FAQ form has been submitted so that $_POST['email_address'] is available for checking. Placing that notification in the class constructor is probably too soon.

Re: Access Blocker Support Thread

Hi....

I'm using an older version of Access Blocker (v1.4.0), and I see that the latest version is (v1.5.2)

My questions are....

  1. Are there major differences between the old & new?
  2. Do I need to update to the latest, or is the older version fine?
  3. If I should update, what is the easiest way to do that?

My Zen is (v1.5.7c)

Thanks.....

The version-specific changes are well documented in the plugin's readme.html file as well as the update instructions.

Re: Access Blocker Support Thread

I'm just wondering if this will block an AI spammer/hacker
I have 4 to 15 accounts set up everyday and they look like this
Attachment 21180

All the fields are filled in with the same gibberish. It is a hassle to delete them. I'm not sure why/or what they have to gain.
It is always an untraceable source, but seems to come through a server that specializes in AI on their platform, a fair amount of the time, but also comes from all over the world.
Google_reCAPTCHA did not stop it. I'm on zc 1.5.5.e

That is the same issue we were having. They are probing and sniffing looking for sites that might have value to hack.
I was building a plug in that worked pretty good but I saw this app and was hoping it would take care of the issue.
We got the API key, loaded the plugin and set it up with the API key and that is it.
So far we haven't received any more of the gibberish stuff.
It has been about a week since we installed the plugin.
The only issue we got initially was the logs I described above but I haven't seen any more of those yet so maybe were good.

Re: Access Blocker Support Thread

v2.0.2 of Access Blocker is now available for download: https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2237

This release contains changes associated with these GitHub issues:

#28: Correct PHP warning for missing $messageStack during password-forgotten processing.
#29: Restore Block by: Create-account Company setting; erroneously dropped in v2.0.0 update.
#30: Remove unused elements from the plugin's scriptedInstaller.
#31: Correct configuration-key sort orders; erroneously swapped with date_added in v2.0.0 update.
