Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support

kenwvs:

On a separate note, I have my hosting with GoDaddy (I know, my bad) but cant move it right now. The issue I am having is that I have my zencart inside a directory called ZenCart, and can\t get the page to open up to my main zencart page as GoDaddy requires the file be named Welcome.html. Is there a way to have the Welcome.html forward to my zencart page, or better yet, is there a way to get around this and remove the ZenCart directory, or is that going to create a real mess.

thanks,

Ken
welcome.html is NOT a required file.. It's a placeholder page Go Daddy places in the root of your site.. Delete it and MOVE all the folders in your Zen Cart directory to the root of your site (where the welcome.html file is located.. Search the forum or FAQs for detailed instructions how to move a Zen Cart site.. A detailed discussion on moving a store is off-topic for this support thread..

Re: Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support

This has probably been answered, but search doesn't bring it up.

I have installed EP, and works great.

I have just installed product/profit margin calculator report contribution. Installed and works great.

When I get a complete .csv from EP it adds a single field "easypoplate custom field". I understand why.

My question is what file/files do I need to modify to add a field for Cost (products_cost) and Mark up (products_markup)?

Thanks,
Hawk

Re: Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support

I want to set up all products to include the digital download automatically. The download is the same number as the model number. Is there someway to do this in a bulk setting, and not having to do them one at a time? I am not sure if Easy Populate or some other modification will do the trick.

Can you add new criteria to EP or only the fields that are currently in the default listing.

Ken

Re: Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support

One problem and one question..

Installed the free version of Easy Populate off the zen-cart free addons page. I have the latest version of zen-cart freshly installed few days ago. Everything seems to be working except..

Problem)

When I create/download EP tab-delimited files to export into spreadsheet, it is only listing the one category I have a test product in. I have a couple dozen categories setup with some sub-categories, all empty.

I am trying to get a full download of the categories, so I can structure all my categories/sub-categories in excel.

How do I get it to export all the categories, including all the empty ones?

Question)

How do I duplicate an entire structure (category, sub-categories, and all products contained within) into another structure that is identical, but where the products and categories are uniquely identified (IE: not linked, but separate entries).

Thank you in advance for the help. I have not been able to find documentation on these two issues yet.

Re: Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support

popeyeTry a different browser. Yes its a pain in the ***

harleyx 1.Basically EP will only download the product list not categories as EP is designed to be a 'product' editor/import tool, not a category editor.
2. EP works by a unique product key ie 'v_products_model', EP will populate a category if you enter that category with a product. If you do not want 'linked' products just enter the same product detail with a different 'v_products_model' key.

kenwvs Search this thread for adding fields to EP

I always use Modzilla for all my site work. It seems to work flawless.

Anything I recoomend is using and following the Wiki about how to use EP. I have it book marked.
http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Easy_Populate

Another tip is to only have a couple of windows open when you doing the work. the less multi-tasking work your computer has to the better.

hope that helps.

Re: Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support

I searched the forum but couldn't find this issue addressed. I apologize in advance if my Boolean skills have failed.

I am using Zen Cart v1.3.9h and Easy Populate v1.2.5.4 in both cases, right out of the box with no modifications beyond a custom template.

First let me tell you how I proceeded (in case you're interested in the "bugs" I encountered) and then I'll get to the real reason I'm posting.

Everything was working fine in the store, including manual category creation and product entry and a five product, 3 category test run of EP yielded perfect results. YAY!

OK, so despite warnings against it, I tried to EP a 6500 product file which was on the server in the /temp directory - without splitting the file. My browser window went blank and sat that way until I hit the back button 15 mins later. Nothing was populated. No errors, just the blank screen (Firefox 3.6.13 on Windoze Vista). Yes, I knew it was a foolish attempt, but I figured I'd start with the lazy method first and then move on.

Next, I told it to auto-split the file at the default 300 products each. I got 22 files after another session of "white-sceen" (the browser is just blank. no "waiting for..." no "busy" icon, just "done" as if it meant to load a blank. ANYWAY, it split the file just fine and I then proceeded to manually populate the store using each of the 22 files. It went perfectly and I was quite pleased with the result. At first...

The source file (a tab-delimited file generated from Excel) was huge: 6500 unique products. I massaged it myself from a less than perfect source, but I was confident that despite some inevitable clean-up within the store, the data fit the requirements and limitations as set forth by EP instructions and Wiki and everywhere else I looked. However, when I looked at the total products actually populated, the store only reported 6000! 500 fewer than it should have been. EP gave no error messages, there was nothing obviously wrong anywhere so I was at a loss.

I made a download of the store's inventory using EP and compared it to the original file to see what I might find out about the products that were not populated. I expected a clerical error, but couldn't find a single thing wrong with any of them. Nothing! I tried a small sample file with just the "broken" prods and a couple good ones and they still wouldn't load, while the good ones did. I noticed then that the categories for these "bad" prods were also not created. Was that the trouble? I tried manually creating those categories and it went flawlessly... except for one detail: their names were truncated.

What seems to have happened is that when EP gets a category that has a name longer than 32 chars, it skips the category and product and moves on. That would be all well and good, since I should (?) have known to keep the category names 32 chars or less, but there was no error message from EP. Nothing. I could see if EP truncated the name automatically and then it would be up to me to clean it up, OR give me an error message (and even create a "fail-file" where it dumps all prods not able to be populated), but to just ignore them and move on was kind of lousy.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that fact that EP was created (THANK YOU!) and perhaps the latest-and-greatest version will address this, but PLEASE OH PLEASE at the very least include a comment in the wiki or other instruction manual that category names MUST be 32 chars or less. I didn't have to work too hard to figure it out, but I could see a lot of people getting really frustrated by this - something that could be avoided quite easliy.

Thanks for listening and thanks again for a great contribution!

Actually, mine is set to 64 characters. You have to edit your MySQL table to increase your character limit for the categories description table. Once you do that, you're set. But be careful when you're messing with phpmyadmin.

Yes, I could have adjusted it first (thanks for the tip!) but like me, most people are probably going to go with defaults and without any mention of this issue right up front, it could get frustrating for a lot of people, real fast!

Re: Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support

I've skimmed much of the 300+ pages of this thread and haven't found this problem. There isn't any mention of it I can find in the faq. There is one other thread with the exact same problem, but there were no replies. If it has been addressed, can someone please post a link?

I just used EP 1.2.5.4 (downloaded from langer's modhole) to upload nearly 15k products to my site. I used the split function, but kept getting a "no product number" loading error. So I opened the .csv file and broke it up myself. I found that somewhere between downloading the file from my distributor, changing it from comma-delimited to tab-delimited, and uploading it to my site, I must have screwed up because products with a price that included a comma had an extra field, causing the upload problem. So, I fixed the field length problem, and uploaded all the products, in 300-field files, with no problems.

Problem is, when I try to access the product/category function in admin, I now get the error:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds exceeded in (mydomain)zencart/renamed admin)/includes/functions/general.php on line 220

Did I just overload the capacity of zencart, or is there a solution to this?

edit: I should mention I've had the site up and running with a hundred or so products for a couple years with few problems.

Re: Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support

Not sure about alot of the problems as I haven't encounted them, however the overloading the capacity of Zen-cart, I have about the same number of products and no issues.

I did have issues using the slpit function too the first time I used EP, but now I do it all manually and have never had another issue.

Good luck.

Re: Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 support

forestfrogsllc Its looks like you are trying to up load too many products at once (300 is the ma I would upload at once),also your hosting company looks to have limits on php memory and script running time, which is set to 60 seconds so as soon as the .php file runs over 60 seconds the import will fail.

I did break up the file, and got it uploaded. The problem occured later, when I was timing out when trying to view the category/product page after I uploaded everything.

The problem was entirely my fault.

At some point, when I was converting from the comma-delimited file provided by the distributor to the tab-delimited file for EP, I must have allowed BOTH commas and tabs to be delimiters. Any product with a price of more than $999 had a comma in it, so those records ended up with additional fields. This bumped all the fields beyond the new fields out of synch with the field labels. So, the V_category1 field in those records had data from the v_quantity field in it. This caused EP to create a new category for each record which had a different number of products in inventory (using the number of products as the category name). I had so many categories that loading them timed out the server.

I finally managed to get the extra categories deleted, and the ISP reset me to version 5 PHP so the website would load, and we are back up and running.
