Stocks by attributes

I seem to have kind of broken my cart and I'm not quite sure how to fix it. I installed the incorrect version for stock attributes (products_with_attributes_stock) and really thought I had backed out if it (had everything working as normal) and then installed stockattribute_by_danielcor_3.01.1. Works well enough on the back end for adding stock numbers and such. Looks good on the front end until you click on a product that has variants on it and then it ends in a blank page.

Any ideas? Have I somehow skipped a step?

Thanks!

Arkwright:

With regard to my last post, was I correct in the way I was adding a product and adding the stock levels afterwards?Yes. That was fine. The initial product level stock should become irrelevant once you start adding attribute stock.

Arkwright:

I have just carried out a test purchase on Size 10 and have ordered 6 of the 3 available.

Total stock now reads 11 items, but my stock figures for each attribute haven't changed at all they still read as above.

The mystery deepens....For everybody else, Arkie and I resolved this mystery by changing his FTP settings to always overwrite existing files so that the full stock by attributes fileset was installed.

FTP programs are often reluctant to overwrite existing files, and even more so for existing files with newer last modified dates. If you have installed Zen Cart more recently than I last worked on some of the files then this may affect you and you will may need to force your FTP program to upload all the files in the package.

http://www.quailsnestyarn.comstockattribute_by_danielcor_3.01.1 is a good idea but appears to be based on the older stockattribute_by_danielcor_3.01 (note the last of ".1") without the updates for compatibility with later versions of Zen Cart that are built into the Stock by Attributes mod. So the chances of incompatibilities between the mod and your version of Zen Cart are quite high.

Re: Stocks by attributes

Thanks so much for your answer. Which mod will work best with v1.3.7? I'm sure it's probably in this very thread but I can't seem to find it. I can back out of stockattribute_by_danielcor_3.01.1 too but I just need a simple mod that will allow me to set stock levels on attributes. I don't need any bells and whistles.

Thanks!

Re: Stocks by attributes

Once again, here I am, asking for help :lookaroun!

I keep searching the forums but can't seem to find the answer with your mod, kuroi. I would like to put stock numbers next to my attributes in drop down menus. If I have to use radio buttons, that's fine too.

The code I'm finding through searching seems to be referring to other or older mods.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Stocks by attributes

kuroi:

The most common cause of this problem is leaving a backup files littered across the site resulting in the wrong getting executed in some places, and errors about trying to do the same thing twice where that's not allowed.

If this is the case, how do I sort it? I'm not sure what you mean about having backup files littered across the site. I have several backups sitting within the relevant folder - do mean that I should empty this before installing the contribution?

Re: Stocks by attributes

I have tried searching, but not sure how to word search to get relevant answer... if it's there!

I have recently had a clean install of 1.3.7.1, then upgraded to 1.3.8a.
Then installed SBA 4.7

I'm still getting used to it, but one thing I have noted is that if an item has a total of 10, but a particular attribute is out of stock, it still reduces the total when the out of stock attribute is checked out... even going so far as to make it a minus value.

Is this normal? I would have thought that it wouldn't reduce the quantity, when an out of stock item is checked out...?

I am currently downloading the site to do a file compare and see if I missed something, but I was fairly thorough... I think.

Re: Stocks by attributes

Hi.

I have just tried installing the SOL patch and received the following error.

1062 Duplicate entry 'STOCK_SHOW_LOW_IN_CART' for key 2
in:
[INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function) VALUES ('Show available stock level in cart when less than order', 'STOCK_SHOW_LOW_IN_CART', 'false', 'When customer places more items in cart than are available, show the available amount on the shopping cart page:', '9', '6', NULL, now(), NULL, "zen_cfg_select_option(array('true', 'false')," );]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields

The original SQL patch as I have entered it is as follows:-

CREATE TABLE products_with_attributes_stock (
stock_id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT ,
products_id INT NOT NULL ,
stock_attributes VARCHAR( 255 ) NOT NULL ,
quantity FLOAT NOT NULL ,
PRIMARY KEY ( stock_id )
);

INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value,
configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order,
last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function)
VALUES ('Show available stock level in cart when less than order', 'STOCK_SHOW_LOW_IN_CART', 'false',
'When customer places more items in cart than are available, show the available amount on the shopping cart page:',
'9',
'6',
NULL,
now(),
NULL,
"zen_cfg_select_option(array('true', 'false'),"
);

Can any spot where I am going wrong please? Having stock attributes is critical to my site - if I can't get this to work I shall have to look for another package.

Re: Stocks by attributes

i added about 15 new products the other day and because the way SBA organizes everything alphabetically it was a pain in the but to work with is zencart 1.4 is it going to be easier to work on the attribute inventory numbers, or is it going to be the same, at least separating the stock by categories would make a huge difference i couldn't imagine having a large store with 100s of items

Re: Stocks by attributes

Hello
My info
https://www.ysandals.com
PHP 5.1
MySWL 5.0
Zen 1.3.8
Modified template Cherry-Zen
Linux Apache godaddy servers
Stocks by Attributes by Kurai Ver. 4.7

installed without any inconvenience and works perfect until I reached Item Number 50 (currently 476 and need to get over a 1,000).
which makes a pain in the :censored: the data entry, JUST the data entry is the inconvenience for me/us, so here I go:

Questions:
Is is possible to do the following
remember we sell mostly shoes (later we will add clothing but no so many variants)
Shoes comes average 8 different sizes and 3 different colors, so:

  1. Is it another way to complete/fill stocks once the variants/atrributes are created like a matrix or table, where in one page for such item you can fill all stock in one page and NOT one by one.
  2. Have a page break, currently all items are displayed with all atrributes and stock and variants in only one. Say cut off page 10, 15, 20 or 50 items
3)A search button to find items. currently CRTL F is the only way.

Other than That Thanks Kurai!

If you look under Admin > Configuration > Stock there are switches for controlling whether or not Zen Cart allows this.

I have just tried installing the SOL patch and received the following error. You already have the patch installed. The error message is simply telling you that it can't add the same switch a second time.

Stock by Attributes has its origins not in Zen Cart, but another package. It's even possible that it's older than Zen Cart itself. It is well past the natural end of its life and I have been doing no more than keep it on the life support machine until Zen Cart 1.4 is born.

I can't comment specifically on how this will work in Zen Cart 1.4, but the Zen Cart team have had the advantage of seeing how the existing mod works (and where it doesn't) and I'm confident that they will produce a more usable attribute stock facility, and provide an enhanced foundation for future mods in the this area.

The answer to your questions are: yes, yes and yes, or no, no and no depending upon how one looks at it.

This is open source software and none of the things that you have asked would be difficult to do for somebody with say intermediate PHP and MySQL skills and a good knowledge of this area of Zen Cart.

However, you can't do them in the current version, and because this mod is at the end of its life, it's unlikely that anybody will be making them available unless they disparately need the changes themselves.

Hint: If I were in your position, I would look instead at how you might be able to use MySQL to do a bulk upload of data from a CSV file exported from Excel.

The code I'm finding through searching seems to be referring to other or older mods. That code is refering to earlier (or ancestoral) versions of this mod. And that is the code. There are tweaks to it also posted to allow for changes to Zen Cart between the 1.2 and 1.3 series, but I can't comment further as I've never actually tried these changes myself.

I'm not sure what you mean about having backup files littered across the site. I have several backups sitting within the relevant folder - do mean that I should empty this before installing the contribution? There are some experienced Zen Carters who recommend keeping a renamed version of any file that you are replacing, a backup, in the same directory as the new file in case you want to go back.

However, many areas of Zen Cart work by picking up and executing all the files in a particular folder, or all those matching particular naming conventions (which vary depending upon the nature of what they do). So it's quite common for problems, particularly with this mod where core files have to be replaced, to see sites that first execute the new files and then execute the backups which $*@#s atll over the correct output from the new files.

Take it from somebody who started their career (many, many years ago) in software maintenance (including critical applications like flight management software) that the only files that should be on your live site, are the ones that you are happy to see executed. If you don't want them executed, get them a safe distance away.

Re: Stocks by attributes

Kuroi,

Thanks again for your response. Boy, it makes it had to use the mod if people can't see how many of something are available (I sell yarn so it's important for people to know how many skeins of a color can be ordered - especially if I only have one or two on hand).

If anyone else has successfully implemented the code to add stock numbers next to attributes assuming I've used the install for stock_by_attributes_4.6, I'd be happy for the advice.

Thanks!

Re: Stocks by attributes

Is there a way to set up "add on" attributes?

I would like to offer gift wrapping for an extra charge, but I don't want to define different quantities for:

Red & gift wrap option 1
Red & gift wrap option 2
Blue & gift wrap option 1
Blue & gift wrap option 2
Green & gift wrap option 1
Green & gift wrap option 2

Only quantities for:

Red
Blue
Green
Gift wrap option 1
Gift wrap option 2

Thanks!
