Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Just wanted to let everyone know that we're going to take our QA discussions offline. I will update everyone following this support thread with updates as needed..

That said here's where we are at.. The QA testing is going well and as of last night it looks like NIGEL has resolved the filetype case issue!!

(the workaround for now is to NOT upload files with filetype extensions of differing cases -- ie: .jpg vs JPG)

So keep your eyes out on this thread for updates as they come.. (should be able to wrap this up fairly soon!!)

• Add an admin configurable option whereby shopowners can choose whether or not the large or medium image will display in the "on hover" image effect

• Revise module version numbering **for **(hopefully) the last time. We are eliminating the "Rev" numbers format. The new version number is based on the number of releases from inception to current. It is meant to reflect what the version number SHOULD have been had a more conventional version numbering system been used for this and all prior releases

• Re-format and re-write readme file. Among the changes included:

• Full integration of Tim Kroeger's AWESOME original documentation

I am especially excited about the integration of Tim's original documentation into the IH2 readme.. I think that many of IH2s MOST COOL and MUST HAVE features are often forgotten in a sea of "image hover" an lightbox questions..:laugh:

The inclusion of Tim's original documentation really provides a GOOD overview of IH2 and most importantly really demonstrates that this little app is SO MUCH MORE than a way to add cool image hovering effects..

Did you know for example:

• That one of IH2's default settings (yes the ones NO ONE ever REALLY looks at) will compress and optimize your product images for you?? No need to use Photoshop or other similar tools to compress your images to make them "web ready". IH2 will do all of this heavy lifting for you.

• That IH2 will convert your images for you from one filetype to another on the fly? For example you can upload a JPG file and specify that IH2 generate all product thumbnail images (small image) as GIFs, all medium product images as JPGs, and all large product images as PNGs. This saves you from have to create and convert all these different files. Simply upload your JPG source and IH2 will take care of the rest for you.

Files are being reviewed as we speak.. Once I get the thumbs up from my testers, I will submit to the downloads section..

Ok, it is updated now with new js and hotzones. Please check in opera and IE9 because I don't have those. Chrome, Safari, and FF working good.

Speaking frankly.. This error message alone gives no indication of what the issue is.. Given that you've made a LOT of very big changes to your store in a very short period of time, any number things could be creating the error.. Bottomline is that since none of us can see your store code, it's gonna be tough for anyone to offer anything more than GUESSES as to the true source of the issue.. This is not to say that we don't want to help, but to say we may not be MUCH help.. :smile: I've only gotten this error twice and narrowed down the issue to two chief causes.

My suggestion is to go through your product names as well as ALL your category and product images and remove any of these offending characters and see if you get a different result.. Also check that your product attributes also do not contain any of these characters..

Try removing or modifying your product attributes.. The ones for this product contain slashes** /**

Well the cause of the error is invalid characters somewhere in the product that IH2 is objecting to.. For me when the "usual suspects" are not working, it becomes very difficult to troubleshoot something over this medium when I can't see EVERYTHING.. I'm hoping someone else (NIGEL!!!) will pop in and see if they can add anything else more insightful..:smile:

Pretty much what Diva said 99% of the time this is caused by image names,

can you provide a direct link to the original image on your site

as in
ranieriboutique<dot>com/images/poshloop.jpg

just not the link you get from imagehandler

Well without explaining what didn't "work well" it's hard to say how to fix/correct whatever issue you may have had.. IH2 works perfectly with Zen Cart v1.3.9.. Reverting to Zen Cart v1.3.8 is not a good idea.. There are a TON of security fixes in Zen Cart v1.3.9 which is the reason to NOT use v1.3.8.

Wouldn't it just be easier to at least consider what I have long suggested - that some clever person attempt to code an override to this error?

All other image handlers have done so long ago.

(Yes, I realise it may not easily happen - thank you volunteers - but it should at least be placed on the to do list, instead of being sneered at.)

Still haven't managed to get it working since Zencart 1.3.9e.

Despite the magnificent work by many helpers, including DivaVocals, it's not the quick easy solution it could (should?) be.

GREAT news!!! Looks like the testing and readme review are done, and done!!!

So after one last "just to be sure" run through I will bundle this up and submit this tomorrow or Saturday morning at the latest..
