Question About Picking A Hosting Company

Thanks Nicholas

I always try to cut people some slack but my business and $$$ are important.

If all hosts are required to go through steps like this when they are notified about a spoof site on their server then I can understand...sort of.

If I'd just registered I could understand too, but it's going into it's 3rd year with them and I would think they'd take a little more care before they pulled a site down.

Good thing is I have a current Zen backup sitting on my desktop

Re: Question About Picking A Hosting Company

Make sure your domain name is "unlocked" before requesting a transfer or it will not work.

After you transfer it, make sure it is "locked", otherwise anyone registrar can successfully transfer your domain name to themself without permission. This is true if it is a dot com domain and maybe some others, I don't remember. Some of the other TLDs have stricter rules on transfers.

Also, if your host or domain name registrar does not give you full access to change your own domain name "whois" info, lock & unlock it and change your own DNS server entries, you need a new registrar.

No Mike Cpanel has nothing do with it. If your host lastest version of Fantastico, it have zencart. I own a hosting company that is what we use//.

Yes it is,
you may want to make sure that the new hosting company that you choose will help you with the file migration and setup

Re: Question About Picking A Hosting Company

We operate a hosting company at edited and we have the latest versions of cPanel for all of our clients. Inside our cPanel(s) for our clients is an auto install feature for Zen-Cart where they can install Zen-Cart through a Fantastico Package, and it works fine. Your host seems to be inexperienced with their features of cPanel and their servers. edited

Good luck.

Re: Question About Picking A Hosting Company

I would hardly consider that SPAM, since there are posts like this one already in that same topic:

"I provide hosting and use cPanel as the user interface and have no problems with ANY carts - Zen, OsC, or otherwise.

As Wayne stated, your current host is blowing smoke likely because they don't know how or have have chosen not to "allow" the needed features required by Zen."

(With his signature pointing to his company site)...

How is this not a type of SPAM? SO, you define SPAM only if you aren't deviant about the way you do it?

Re: Question About Picking A Hosting Company

No problem... I was just letting you know that I was not SPAMMNG intentionally... I was really just trying to help the poster. I will be careful from now on. We have enough clients between all of our sites, that we don't need to SPAM for any.

Re: Question About Picking A Hosting Company

My site seems to be unable to communicate with authorize.net. I was told on another topic that this could be that my server isn't setup to allow that. Does anyone do trial runs without having to sign-up before-hand? I simply want to make sure it works before signing up and I'm having problems with sashbox returning my fee after they took my money and disappeared.

Thanks

I hardly believe this at all since I have been with them for a while and Jim doesn't "disappear". What did you do, email them 1 time and then proclaim this? Email can get lost.

Jim was a very nice guy. I shouldn't have said anything on a public forum. I appologize. :(

Re: Question About Picking A Hosting Company

'd just like to add that after several attmepts at self hosting and then hosting using my usual ISP. I opted for Sashbox as a reccomended product and cannot praise their service enough.

Communication was great, install was clean and fast. i uploaded my templated site and was up and running in about 30 minutes from order to completetion.

Fabulous.

many thanks to you all at zen

Re: Question About Picking A Hosting Company

I will tell you this, Jim spent his whole morning helping my company get set up. He tested, he installed, he conferred with my boss, and he spent 45 minutes on the phone explaining to me the basics of templating with Zen.

Needless to say, we are very pleased with sashbox, and plan on migrating our other doezen sites to him.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Question About Picking A Hosting Company

Cpanel fully supports zencart if the host chooses to allow it.

My clients use zencart, cubecart and several others - they may not use fantastico which is an instant installer of many of the most popular GPL scripts - which zencart is certainly included.

The other thing that you run into with many "hosts" these days, is that they simply don't know what they are doing.

The availability of becoming a "virtual host" is cheap and people look at it as a way to make a lot of money quickly - with very little outlay.

If you are looking for a host, you need to make sure they know and understand what they are doing - or if they are the "management" that they have a good server tech as well.

You need to be really careful about who you trust your online business too.
