header_bg.jpg>>?

I'd like to alter the size of the header image to be a little 'deeper' on my page. When I make a new image and upload it it obviously ownly fits in to the space assigned to it. I'm using classic template - what do I need to edit to allow for more height please?

Thanks in anticipation

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

includes/languages/english/YOURTEMPLATE/header.php

You'll see the image dimensions settings there.

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

You need to edit includes/languages/english/header.php. You should put a copy in your override folder first and then edit that file.

// added defines for header alt and text
define('HEADER_ALT_TEXT', 'Powered by Zen Cart :: The Art of E-Commerce [home link]');
define('HEADER_SALES_TEXT', '<h1>Sales Message Goes Here</h1>');
define('HEADER_LOGO_WIDTH', '200px');
define('HEADER_LOGO_HEIGHT', '70px');
define('HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE', 'logo.gif');

You should consider building on the template_default or Kuroi's template rather than Classic if you are using 1.3+. Reasons stated many times in other posts.

Good luck.

And takes me longer to say it! (At least that's what they tell me at church).

Did not mean to trample Dr. B's excellent answer. grin

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

Thanks for replying...I did find that before I posted.....but that to me looks like the dimension setting for logo.gif, not header_bg.jpg which is the graphic that is displayed across the whole page at the top.( Which is what I want to edit.

Any further ideas appreciated, thanks

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

If this answer shows up twice - hit the 'send to abyss button.' Something timed out. Likely my brain without coffee.

You might try -

// added defines for header alt and text
define('HEADER_ALT_TEXT', 'Powered by Jason :: Jason's Art of E-Commerce [home link]');
define('HEADER_SALES_TEXT', '<h1>Jason has the products you need</h1>');
define('HEADER_LOGO_WIDTH', '760px'); Use your image width
define('HEADER_LOGO_HEIGHT', '200px'); use your image height
define('HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE', 'header_bg.jpg'); Add your image to same folder logo.gif is in your custom template folder.

Edit: If this does not help you, please post a url for the site.

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

Yes that dimension is for the logo, but because the background is behind the logo it is affected by the dimension. Change the dimension and watch the magic happen.

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

Hi there;

I have a question about this; I've created a new background in which included my logo, so I'd like to get rid of "logo.gif".
Yes, I read FAQ "How to get rid of .... " but I still have [ x ] empty link on top of my background.
Sorry guys, I, m newby.:blush:
Thanks

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

The red x means the template cannot find the image. Some possibilites are that the image is in the wrong folder, the template is not turned on, you edited the wrong file, you edited the right file but put it in the wrong folder, .... I have done all of these.

Can you post a url? Suggest you double check your steps. Are you using template overrides?

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

Hello all.
I'm new here.

I've already found most answers to my questions on the pages of this extrenely useful forum. However, this old thread is the only one I can find that gets near to answering my latest question...How do I reveal a larger background image as a header.

I have changed the 'header_bg.jpg' file to be the graphic that is displayed as my logo. It does reach right across the whole page at the top. The box however is not deep enough to show the full logo.

I tried making the 'Logo.gif' file (that seemed to be inside the box) deeper to see if it would push the box out to show the lower part of my 'header_bg.jpg' file. The result was that it pushed the nav bar down and made the space under the visible half of my 'header_bg.jpg' file bigger. However there was no more of my background file showing.

Earlier on in the shaping of my site I decided not to have the nav buttons under the header that were duplicated in the side 'Categories' box.
I think the container of the deleted nav words is still in place and that that was the box that stretched. I would like to delete that box completely and I would love to make the one with the background file bigger.

By the way, I am just feeling my way here, I can follow instructions but I'm not at all fluent in php.

Any help at all would be very gratefully received.

Cheers.
Moose.

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

If you turned the categories-tabs off in admin > Configuration > Layout Settings, there is no box for them.

It would be much easier for us to help if you could post a URL to your site.

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

You have #logoWrapper set to 75px high:
#logoWrapper{
background-image: url(../images/header_bg.jpg);
background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-color: #ffffff;
height:75px;
}
but there is an invisible logo image defined as 227 x 113px which is holding space open. Fix that in /includes/languages/english/your_template/header.php, and change #logoWrapper to the appropriate height.

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

Moose,
Might I suggest you look into ImageHandler and Lightbox add-ons. I think they would be an excellent addition to your site. Would definitely help with load time.
The IP address at the bottom of the page is an oft debated item. Some say it lets the "bad guys" know you're tracking them while some say it scares off customers that feel "big brother is watching". Either way, you still have the data in admin.

Re: header_bg.jpg>>?

I've just looked at your site, it looks great, very fruity.

You have exactly the same problem as I had. I'm sure if you use the advice gjh42 gave me you should be able to fix it.

I'm sure you'd remember to back-up the files that you are going to change, but I thought I would say it any way.

One thing that might help - I found that changes made to the background image needed more refreshing than usual before I could see the difference.
