Product images won't display
Check that /images and all subdirectories are 777
If you FTP an image ... can you then view it with your browser?

Yes. I checked the permissions on the image and I am able to view it with the browser. It seems like more of a problem with teh admin console than anything else. The folder permissions are wide open and the image still won't upload when I add a new product. So because of that I think the link to ../images/no_picture.gif is being attached to the prduct. So even when I do upload the image to the images directory the product still has the no_picture.gif image associated with it.
This is where I'm stumped.

What version Zen Cart?
What version php?
Have you any add-ons?
Have you ever been able to upload images via the Admin?
Zen Follower
Zen Cart 1.3.0.2
PHP Version 4.4.2
No add-ons.
I started with a previous version of ZenCart that was auto-installed through my host. I was able to upload some images then. But I decided to upgrade and just start from scratch since I wasn't far along and not happy with what I had anyway. So I backed up my site and deleted it from the server and started over with a fresh install. I did import my MySql DB that had all my attribute options I had already entered. It hasn't worked since the reinstall.

OK. I know sort of what's happening I just don't know why.
The permissions are set correctly on the folder and the image.
When I add a new product and try to upload the product image at that time the image never gets uploaded. The very next screen where it should show the image it shows the no_picture.gif image. So since the image isn't being uploaded the path with the image name isn't being added to the database listing for the product. So even if you upload the prduct via ftp it still isn't showing because the database has no record of it. So I manually added the path and it worked.
Obviously this is not an acceptable solution. So I need to figure out why it's not uploading in the first place and would continue to appreciate any ideas anybody has. I'm beating my head on the wall over here trying to get this working.
Thanks.

Are you clicking on the Browse buttom to add your images from your PC or are you manually adding the name?
Zen Follower
Clicking on browse.

And your /images and all subdirectories are set to 777 and you recieve no error message at the top of the screen?
Zen Follower
Just doubled checked the premissions. The /images and subdirectories are 777
No error at the top of the page when I add the product.
I'm wondering if something with the database got hosed when I reinstalled zencart.
I'd like to figure it out but if I can't I'm not too far into it to start over and wipe out the database. But I'd obviously rather jsut fix it.

Have you tried in both IE and FireFox?
Zen Follower
Yes. Doesn't work in either.
Oba-san
Do you have any add-ons to do with images or anything similar added to the Admin?
Zen Follower
No. I don't have any add-ons at all. The direction I'm leaning is that this may be related to not dropping the database when I reinstalled zen cart into a new directory. I left the existing db and imported the backup I had. Something might have gotten messed up thorugh that process since it wasn't as clean as it could have been.
If I decide to start over then I hope that was the problem. If I don't then I hope that's not the problem.
I just don't know what else it could be since that's when it all started.

OK. I deleted ZC completely and dropped the database and reinstalled completely. Still didn't work. So I uninstalled again using the autoinstaller from my host and it should have installed 1.3.0.1 but when I looked at the server/version info it still said 1.3.0.2. So I called my host and they looked into it and determined that there was a problem with they're autoinstaller. So they uninstalled it completely for me.
Then I reinstalled 1.3.0.2 myself and that solved this image problem. So apparently something was hosed from trying to upgrade and stuck somewhere and it took my host to figure it out. But it's working now.
Thanks for all the help.

I've read this entire thread and I have a similar problem that I don't think any of the solutions will work for.
My problem is that the product names and images won't display on the product listing page but WILL display on the product page itself. So I know it's not that the images contain errors or that the permissions are wrong because you can see the images on the product page.
I can also see them on the product editing page in admin.
Here's the wierd part. I had a test install on another server that works perfectly. I backed up the DB from that install and restored it to the DB powering the new install so all the settings in admin are exactly the same. The directory structure is exactly the same as well.
I've done a fair amount of customization but I uploaded and re-uploaded all the edited files to the new install as well.
At first I thought it was a host issue or some sort of htaccess problem but I don't see how that makes sense as I can see the product images, just not on the product listing page and all other images work fine.
I've used the admin tool for uploading all category and product images.
I should note that I have code installed to display the product listings in a columnar format, though this code works fine on the test install.
Very weird!
Here are the relevent links:

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I also had a similar problem: I could see the product images in firefox but not in IE, after reading this thread I opend the pic in Photoshop and the ones I couldn't see were CMYK #8, the others were RGB 8, so I saved for web and it works now like charm!
:)
thanks a lot!
