Favorite Tools of the Trade

Hiya Zin,

What I mean is by using a non-encrypted ftp client, you are sending your username and password over the internet in the clear to upload files. If that is hijacked, then someone has complete access to your site....

Just like using SSL to keep the customers data safe, or making sure you use SSL when logging into the admin interface and making sure that your access via cpanel is via SSL connection. I look at the complete picture of access to try to mitigate the possibility of a compromise.

Thanks, but that is not my site... I just use the software a like it so I let others know....

Re: Favorite Tools of the Trade

reuben:

This is an excellent thread. Thanks to everyone who replied.

The backend logistics and fulfillment functions of eBusiness always seem to take a backseat to the technical ones on these forums, but are just as important in eCommerce.

I am really interested to include what are people's favourite tools for:

  • Inventory Management
  • Accounting, Finance & Forecasting
  • Delivery management systems (eg: eParcel in Aus)
  • Reporting and statistics

Currently we're trying to implement QuickBooks Premier to solve inventory and finances, and looking at eParcel for delivery, but neither products are perfect solutions for us.

regards,
Reuben

Dear Reuben,

Yes, I too am wondering what others are using to help with their business bookkeeping chores! What are the best zen addons for bookkeeping help?

Re: Favorite Tools of the Trade

I suspect there may be a lot of Zen users who do roughly what I do. Zen Cart does its thing; my accounting software does its thing (with the help of a book-keeper) and the meat between my ears keeps the two of them in sync, more or less. Obviously this wouldn't work for a busier store.

As our book-keeping software is on its last legs, I am VERY interested in any effort to closely tie together Zen and a good accounting program.

Re: Favorite Tools of the Trade

Hi everybody,

Recently (before my computer crashed) I was using a software that would allow me to search thru my php files. For example if I wanted to find the files that contained "TEXT_GREETING_GUEST", I would just type it, decide where to search and will show me all the files. The software was free.

I have been trying to find reference to that software everywhere but can't remember how I found it. If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thanks

Windows Search can do that. Also Wilbur, also UltraEdit, also Textpad, also EditPlus. Use the "Find in Files" options

Re: Favorite Tools of the Trade

Just because Dr. Byte said in the sticky that we need to be polite i'll try to be
Talking about editors i 've lost many overnights with them to discover in the end that the only editor that will have no problem at any server host is **FCK Editor
**whithout any doubt :flex:.
I dare to say that the main problem of TinyMce is because of its gzipped javascript that i guess it's difficult to be understood by some servers while appearently FCK doesn't need to use and permits also flash attaching.
I can see that the team doesn't talk about it openly but is quite strange to see that lately there is no more support about tinymce.
For irony this evening i received a private message of a girl asking me if i could help her because she was stucking with tinymce and of course i will tell her
to install FCK.
The Html editor is the core of the cart.
Zen cart wouldn't even exist i guess without a reliable and friendly editor because 70% of his users are dummies at least in the beginning as i were and i still consider me ...php programming is a steep and deep learning curve....
In my personal ranking the all times best module is **YAHOOTREEMENU **with ajax

cheers at all the buddyes in the forum!!

Re: Favorite Tools of the Trade

At kuroi we have moved away from Photoshop (except for working with photos specifically and batch processing images) and Illustrator, and use Fireworks instead. For CS3, Adobe has really focussed Fireworks on web development, and once we got over the initial learning curve, it proved to be heaps faster to use.

We have also almost abandoned the Firefox Web Developer tool, because Firebug is so much quicker and easier to use (again, once we were past the initial learning curve).

Re: Favorite Tools of the Trade

Anyone using Paint Shop Pro X2? I have not upgraded since version 7 but I am needing more features now than before. Besides all the photo editing crap, is the core program similar to the older versions?

If not x2 what versions are you using?

Thanks
