Re: International Shipping

Can I have a guru elaborate on this one step further....

Our shipping = free to the continental US (I set up a zone for US in zone definitions and individually added the states--excluding teritories).

BUT, international has two rates: $20 for VHS (no matter the quantity shipped) and $10 for DVD (again, no matter the quantity shipped).

"International" to us means anything other than the 50 states...Canada would be international. (I set up a zone called international, but the only defined sub-zones in that area are the ones that we have actually shipped to; didn't figure it was necessary to set up for all 240 countries when we only have ever shipped to something like 8).

I can get the single rate set up for the international shipping (ie $20), but how do I set up the second rate for shipping (ie $10 for DVD's). AND, if they have a mixed order....could I default it to charge shipping at the higher rate.

We don't do a ton of international--a few a year--but without it being automated, the use of a cart for international is moot.

Any help greatly appreciated!!!!

Re: International Shipping

To elaborate on the previous post; I've installed the zonetable shipping module for a Canadian store. Everything works great for orders in Canada, but now the international orders do not show any shipping options at all and the US orders show zone rate is active, but no price.

Apparently, I have to manually enter all the zone definitions for each country in the world, except Canada.

Any chance anyone has made a patch for all countries except Canada? Or some other option that might work for me?

Re: International Shipping

Hi Linda,
I figured out the country code for Canada (38) and slightly modified your script for international shipping using the zonetable rate. Following your instructions I installed the sql patch but get an error message:

1062 Duplicate entry '20' for key 1 in:
[INSERT INTO geo_zones (geo_zone_id, geo_zone_name, geo_zone_description, last_modified, date_added) VALUES (20, 'Not CA', 'All Countries Except CA', NULL, '2008-01-01 12:32:13');]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.

Any ideas of where I went wrong?

Here is the code I was using:
INSERT INTO geo_zones (geo_zone_id, geo_zone_name, geo_zone_description, last_modified, date_added) VALUES (20, 'Not CA', 'All Countries Except CA', NULL, '2008-01-01 12:32:13');

Re: International Shipping

The value of 20 is probably being used for another zone ...

You would want to change them to 21 or whatever value is free ...

Re: International Shipping

Thanks a lot!
The patch installed correctly, I have a "Not CA" option.
I must have some other problems since the US and International shipping prices are still not showing up. :-(

Re: International Shipping

Hi All,

I have created 4 Cloned Per Item shipping modules and have added Linda's zones via the 2 SQL INSERT statements and everything shows up and appears to be working until I try to checkout.

When I login as a customer, add an item to my cart and try to checkout I get a blank page.

Checkout works fine if I turn off all 4 of the new cloned "Per Item" modules... Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Also, I noticed something interesting, if I reinstall the item.php files but keep the 4 new clones disabled the item.php module works as expected.

Zen Cart 1.3.8a
Database Patch Level: 1.3.8
Linux 2.6.24.7
PHP Version: 5.2.4 (Zend: 2.2.0)
Database: MySQL 5.0.51a-log

Any ideas?

As an aside, it dawns on me that this may not even be what I want, my client has very specific shipping options and I'm not sure the above method will work because from what I can tell the customer can pick the shipping method, we need the shipping method to be applied automatically using a flat rate "Per Item" based on whether the items are large or small:

  1. USA Small item $7.00 (per item)
  2. USA Large item $10.00 (per item)
  3. Not USA Small item: $20.00 (per item)
  4. Not USA Large Item $35.00 (per item)

Am I using the right approach and if not how to I attach a specific shipping method to a specific product (I already figured out that I can use the weight to trick this into working, but prefer to not use weight as a customer won't understand if the weight is different than his invoice specified.

All help will be greatly appreciated!

Re: International Shipping

What happens if you remove 1 module at a time ... does it work with some or one of them?

Do you see any errors in the admin in the Modules ... Shipping ...

Re: International Shipping

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I tried each module 1 at a time and they all bomb the check out page, same exact thing...

When making the changes to the files I caught myself making an error (difference between Upper and Lower case "item") so I started over from scratch and made a special effort to be very careful performing the search and replace...

As I said in my post, the strange thing is that the original item module still works as expected, it's just the new clones that don't work...

Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Gary777

Re: International Shipping

Sounds like typos ...

Delete from the server all of the new modules that you made and any backup files ...

What filenames are you using on these?
