How do I set 2 flat shipping rates to 2 different zone?

I copied flat.php from both locations, and did everything by the instructions. Everything works fine except when i select my flat_new during checkout and go to step 2 of 3 it shows the flat shipping amount which is $55 instead of my flat_new rate which is $20.

flat_new is set to $20 under the shipping module. Anyone have an idea of the problem?

flat_new should be flatnew or flatsomething ... using the underscore will break things ... :eek:

Thanks for the update that changing flat_new and removing the underscore for flatnew was able to fix this problem ... :smile:

Re: How do I set 2 flat shipping rates to 2 different zone?

Hi,

I just found this thread from years ago. I have the same problem, one flat rate for the US, another flat rate for the rest of the world. In one of the files, flat.php, I found 31 instances of "flat" or"FLAT". So I replace all 31 instances with the correct "flatusa" or "FLATUSA", right?

Yes, when cloning you need to replace:
flat with flatusa
FLAT with FLATUSA

in both the code file and language file ...

Re: How do I set 2 flat shipping rates to 2 different zone?

That worked just fine, thanks a lot for the help.

I seem to have a problem to understand the "zone" thing. I have installed 1 zone, the State of MS, where shipments originate. I guess that is not correct, right? Shouldn't the USA be zone 1 and the rest of the world zone 2 for shipping charge purposes?

Re: How do I set 2 flat shipping rates to 2 different zone?

If you want Flat USA flatusa for only the US Definition, you have to decide if you mean ALL of the US which is all the States, DC, US Islands and Territories ... OR ... if you mean part of the US ...

For the Rest of the World, you need to build a Zone Definition with everything else not included in the US Zone Definition ...

Once you have built these Zone Definitions, you can add them to the shipping modules and only those addresses that match those Zone Definitions will be able to use the shipping modules ...

Re: How do I set 2 flat shipping rates to 2 different zone?

It's the 50 states only and the rest of the world has some embargo countries excluded.

Can you point me to a tutorial where I can read up how to build a zone definition? I have installed a USA zone but the EDIT Zone part does not explain how to exclude or include overseas areas.

Thanks again for your time.

You might look in the Tutorials/FAQ and Wiki and search for:

This will built a Zone for the Rest of the World where it excludes the US but has everyone else ...

You can run this in the Tools ... Install SQL Patches ...

INSERT INTO `geo_zones` (`geo_zone_id`, `geo_zone_name`, `geo_zone_description`, `last_modified`, `date_added`) VALUES (20, 'Not US', 'All Countries Except the US', NULL, '2006-07-03 12:32:13');

This will build the 48 States Plus DC ... and you can add Alaska and Hawaii if you want them included:

INSERT INTO `geo_zones` (`geo_zone_id`, `geo_zone_name`, `geo_zone_description`, `last_modified`, `date_added`) VALUES (21, '48 Lower States', '48 States + DC', NULL, '2008-02-01 12:12:12');

Re: How do I set 2 flat shipping rates to 2 different zone?

Wow, thanks a bunch for the lists. They will save me a lot of time.
I just hope I can implement them without a problem.

I'm already in hot water with my customer. :-) I told him to select the Zen cart out of several others because it was supposedly easy to set up and now he keeps asking why it's not finished yet.

Re: How do I set 2 flat shipping rates to 2 different zone?

Please excuse my stupidity. I backed up my database (ftp + SQL) and now I just copy and paste the two scripts (one at a time) into "Install SQL patches" and run it, right? After they're installed I can make the necessary changes (Alaska, Hawaii, etc)?

Re: How do I set 2 flat shipping rates to 2 different zone?

By full SQL code you mean that I highlight all lines and paste them in? That's what I did.

I just tested it again, copying directly from your post.

This is the error message that I get:
