Quick Updates plugin [support]

@amyleew: is the name field size issue on Chrome already solved? It should not be difficult to increase the size, but I don't know how to do it from the top of my head (problem is that I haven't seen/used the code of the current version for years as I am using, and still working on, my never finishing new beta...)

@fred_tededmondsson: never heard or seen issues like that before with quick updates. And sudden "403 forbidden" issues sound more like a hosting problem to me than something with quick updates or Zen Cart.

Re: Quick Updates plugin [support]

Hello,

I didn't find this issue on the search so I'm going to ask (excuse me if someone mentioned before).

I have someone that needs URGENT to fix all his database (it's a real mess). Categories with products and product with subcategories all messed up and mixed. There are over 40k products in this database. So I thought "hmmm I will install quick updates and my life will be easier".... :smoke:

I should mention that I tried doing it from phpAdmin and didn't work for me. No errors but when I go to admin the products still there.

The problem is that when I go to the list of products (specific category) and it says "Invalid Master Category ID" when I click to select the correct one, the list doesn't show up, it only gives me the category where it is right now.

Please I need this to work I will go insane doing one by one. Is there a query I can do directly on phpadmin? or is there a fix for this issue?

Re: Quick Updates plugin [support]

Quick updates has a switch to "Edit linked Cats" versus "Edit master Cats" (above the products table, at the right). "Edit master Cats" might help to solve the problem.

But I think the best solution is to search for the "Invalid Master Category ID" error message. Zen Cart has a build in tool to fix this problem (which will probably work better/easier than quick updates, especially with so many products).

Re: Quick Updates plugin [support]

Yes Paul, that' what I selected from there (Edit master Cats), but doesn't give me the list on the dropdown to change it. It just list the category where it is.

I don't understand the second part of your message... I know the warning is there and I have to move the items. I just don't want to move them 1by1.

If you select "Edit Master Cats" it's normal that you see the category (or categories) that the product is in, and "Invalid Master Category ID". The "Invalid Master Category ID" entry is a bit confusing, but it has no meaning and should be ignored. Only if a product is linked to multiple categories it's possible to change the Master Category ID to one of those linked categories. This is because only categories that are linked to a product are valid master categories. I hope hope that all this makes sense  It's how Zen Cart handles the product to categories relations, quick updates only provides a way to edit those.

But I am not sure what it exactly is you want to edit. Doesn't the "Edit Linked Cats" do the job for you?

ideasgirl:

I don't understand the second part of your message... .Please ignore that part. That was because I thought the problem was that you had products with invalid master categories, but that is probably not the case after all.

Yes, it does.

So in resume, quick updates CAN'T solve my problem. That's disappointing... :Flush:

Re: Quick Updates plugin [support]

Hi,

Great add on and so easy to install...... thanks.

One problem I do have with it is the product descriptions stretch right across the screen pushing every field to the right of it, off the screen. Although the fields are visable, it requires a lengthy scroll to the right which results in confusion as to which product is being edited.

Any suggestions how to limit the width of the product description column or remove it entirely.

Thanks in advance.

PS: Using 1.3.9h

i'm having the same problem and it's pretty obnoxious. no time at the present to figure out a GOOD solution that involves a config switch or something, but in the meantime, i have simply put:

.productsDescription {
display: none;
}

in the stylesheet_quick_updates.css file to hide it. to allow its display again, simply comment-out/delete that bit of code.

Under Products Description you should only see a green edit button (if hovered the description is shown, and if clicked a popup window appears for editing the description)

I've also seen this happen when you have unbalanced html tags in your descriptions. For example, you open a <p> or <ul> tag but fail to close it with </p> or </ul>.

Paul is correct, you should only see the green edit button. If you see Text, you need to check your descriptions. If you are using an HTML editor, turn it off so you can see the plain text.

Re: Quick Updates plugin [support]

I upgraded to 1.50 and quick updates doesn't show in the admin menus but if I enter the websitename and the path to quick_updates.php it runs and works.

How do I add this to the admin menu in the catalog section.

Thanks Happy New Year

Re: Quick Updates plugin [support]

Hi,

I am running zencart version 1.39h with quick updates version 1.3 and what I want to know if it is possible to add and extra column for stock location. We have at present added another field in the product section for the location of stock but would really like to get quick updates to work with the location field as well.

If someone can point me in the correct direction it would be a great help.

Bruce,

If the custom field you are looking to add is in the products table, it should be rather simple to add. You should find a similar column with a data type that is the same as the one you are using, and then use that to model your edits.

You will basically duplicate the code and then adjust for our table column name.

Did that make sense??

Re: Quick Updates plugin [support]

Quick updates is probably the most useful add on for us. We use it everyday to update by manufacturer, to know the stock and place orders by manufacturer and many other things. Am I missing some newer feature in Zen Cart? Or is there some other add on that does this? We would have a very hard time running our site without it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Yeah... I'm thinking of downgrading from 1.5 if we can't use this module... Any hope to get this working?

Yes it's just admin page registration that is needed; I looked at how to do this but would take me time to learn so have asked client if they want to pay me to do it.
I have tested Quick Updates in 1.5.0 and works fine you just need to manually go to the pages:
main: http://www.yourdomain.com.au/admin/quick_updates.php
configuration: http://www.yourdomain.com.au/admin/configuration.php?gID=31

Re: Quick Updates plugin [support]

This is such an exceptional module! Many thanks to Paul Mathot. According to Paul the change should be simple, that of course is relative. Thanks again for this module!

Anyway, I just wanted to reiterate that quick updates V2.05 does appear to be functioning properly with ZC1.5. Proper registration is what’s needed. After a full install of QU2.05 on ZC1.5 and tinkering with the values (may have created a record) in the following tables appears to have QU2.05 showing the ‘Set Quick Update Options’ under configuration and ‘Quick Updates’ under catalog.

I have 1 Quick Updates record in configuration_group, 1 record in admin_pages, 17 records in configuration.

Hope this helps.
