Checkout without account

GDOrn:

Yeah, that's why it's not released yet - I'm still dealing with that situation. Ultimately, I'll need to add an additional flag to indicate that an account is not an account and ignore those entries during login and account creation. As written, it won't cause a problem with a returning non-account customer - they just enter details again and it pays no attention to existing email in the db.

Gdorn, I am behind you all the way!
Its no good for groups with clashing ideas to refuke each other. Give each other some slag. Those who want account can go and do their account, and those who dont, can figure out how to work it out. In the end, it implements on each's own website and does not interfere with each other's business.

I am not a technical person, I would have done it if I knew how.

Re: Checkout without account

It is extremely difficult to understand how the valuable fruits of one's effort, given freely time and time again, are met with so much opposition and criticism from users of this site.

If you like the contribution and it fits what you want for your store, that's fantastic. If you don't, then don't use it - what could be simpler? A big thank you to the author for donating his efforts back to the community. Zen Cart users have more choice than before as a result.

Re: Checkout without account

ronwong:

Tina, the idea is very simple. if the world only has 100 person, maybe only 50 will do onlineshopping. the other 50 swear by physical store only. Out of the 50, 20 are reugluar shoppers, they are happy to open account, and love the convinience of saved information. That is what you are designing your site for. The 20 person. On top of the 20, I want to tap into the other 30 customers. Those who proceed all the way to check out, and decide to give up because of all the information, or those who simple is a one time purchaser. You can stick with your clientele of 20 shoppers, but I want to capture 50. That is business. Again, i said earlier, if you manage to 'force' these 30 customers to create an account, they will create, get theyir stuff and get out forever anyway, and you are left managing a bunch of dormant account anyway.

Thank you for your view on my statement - it really is appreciated as now I better understand why you would want to do it :)

When the world gets in my face I say Have A Nice Day.

Re: Checkout without account

Have you gotten the module for 1.3 Zen Cart ready yet?

I'm highly interested in it, too.

Re: Checkout without account

Is there a way I can help developing this module?
I am interested in this, because the easier a customer can order goods the better.
A password is not helping.

It is difficult for older people to fill in a lot of information before they can order.

I am a developer so if you need help I will be glad to help you.

Re: Checkout without account

Yes, but the shop I am building for my customer are 99% 1-time only customers.
Why the need for an account. The average age of the customer is 45 and higher.
The customers do not see why they should have to enter a password and sure not why entering it 2x.

It is easier to let them enter their name and address and send them after ordering a link to their account (maybe generating a password by the zen-cart system)

In the Netherlands it is the same like the difference between ebay and https://www.marktplaats.nl. (marktplaat is owned by ebay)
For ebay you need to enter lots of information ,before you can do anything.
On the marktplaats website you only need to enter an amount and your email address. That is all you need.

Why is google so popular? One of the big reasons is: IT IS SIMPLE

So the main goal is: KEEP IT SIMPLE.

The normal procedure to order goods at a zen-cart site is too complex.
The first step to make it more easy it too get rid of the password.

So can I help developing this module in any way?

Re: Checkout without account

I would be interested in this - mainly because my client does not want the "Welcome email" sent to customers, and I can't seem to find how to do that.

Thanks :D

Re: Checkout without account

I appreciate this mod and would like to eventually implement something like this. The problem that I see so far with it is that it appears too confusing. Viewing bulbster.com, I see:

Want to skip account creation? Check here and enter your name and address, and we'll proceed right to checkout.

Does this mean to fill in my name in the "Your Personal Details" area and then my info in the Shipping/Billing areas? If this is the case, why is there an * in red by the password/confirm, etc. boxes designating "Required information"? This would be far too confusing for my customers, as the process is not intuitive. Intuitive web sites are key to success (advice: have a simple screen option where a customer can click on "Returning customer", "Create an account", or "Guest checkout", and from there the customer is brought to a new page where additional info is required).

Also, I noticed that if I click the box to skip account creation and click "submit", I get a few error messages for failing to fill in fields. However, I also noticed that the password and confirm password fields are magically filled in. Does anyone see this as a potential problem?

I applaud the author of this mod for taking this step in the right direction....I hope my feedback is found to be useful.

Re: Checkout without account

Requiring an account set up has produced a number of potential
customers to leave and NOT make a purchase. How do I know?
Those people took the time and send me an email complaining
a login was required.

Re: Checkout without account

This sure would be a good mod to have. I'd rather collect the data on my customer at the end, than make them jump through the hoops at the beginning.

Is it ready? If so, where can I get it?

Thanks,
K

Re: Checkout without account

Thanks for replying. I did more testing with the software and found that out. I just haven't had the chance to go back and update my post.

Thanks!
