Candied Apple V1.0

I'm still running IE version 6.0.2800.1106 (I think this might be the explanation considering we're seeing different things looking at the same site)

I'm using a brand new zen-cart installation (version 1.3.0.2) but I don't think this is it since we're seeing different things on other people's sites)

Sorry Sketchy. The modules are there on the demo site. In the rush to upgrade to 1.3.5 this morning, I accidentally gave the javascript that simulates your Admin settings to Classic XHTML, but you have that back now so the site displays fine in FF but still misses the left border in IE.

You may have tripped over one of those pesky IE anomies that you are so enjoying getting to grips with at the moment. Those associated with dodgy rounding techniques in IE don't show up on all sites or all the time. The narrow strip of whitespace to the right of your header in IE only is probably a big clue too.

Maybe, the column widths are faulting the display. Those live stores with the proper file placement and Admin column widths are appearing perfect. Except for a 2px strip of whitespace under the logo in Explorer(is what I saw). Did you upgrade that demo store to the brand new version? I haven't had time to test my templates on my upgraded store. I do know that there are some CSS changes reported.

Re: Candied Apple V1.0

Yes I think we've sorted it - it's an IE 6 issue - so now we have to not only check multiple browsers when designing but multiple versions of different browsers! grr. Does sound like IE is getting better though in version 7..

I'm seeing that white strip too in IE 6 by the way - hadn't noticed it!

Unfortunately, you may be right. I may have to revert back to Explorer 6 to see what's going on. If it's a problem, I'm going to have to revise those templates. I wonder why nobody else mentioned this, I have to figure this out pronto. :wacko:

Re: Candied Apple V1.0

It's one of those things that can go unnoticed for ages - I didn't notice for quite a few days, but then I barely use IE so..

Hopefully it'll be a quick fix. Thanks for your help!

So, the sports store does the same for you? I just can't understand why I'd see it on the demo, but not on the live stores.

Yeah, that royally sucks... big headaches.
They claim Explorer 7 is better, but it's not all that compliant as they say, so I guess earlier versions are worse. :laugh:

So, your store isn't the 'brand new' version that came out yesterday? I designed the templates using v1.3.2, the same as your version. Uggh, I have to take a holiday.

Re: Candied Apple V1.0

Oh I didn't realise there was a new version out yesterday! I only installed last thursday so I assumed I'd be up to date!

Which was the sports store you mentioned? I see the fault in the sanctuary beads one and on the demo. It is mighty confusing that you see it on the demo. I don't know how those templates are actually being displayed like that - being able to flick between them - I know they're not screen shots, but I don't suppose there is something along those lines happening that is causing you to see the error?

Re: Candied Apple V1.0

`I removed IE7 and restarted twice... and still IE6 won't work at all! Uggh, life isn't fair. I guess the beta busted the prior one.

I'm going to have to clean up the registry to see if I can fix it. I was hoping to look through IE6 right now, to see what's going on. I think the column widths are wrong in the demo. It still doesn't explain why you see Sanctuary and the other live store like you do.

The brand new Zen is the best yet! You should certainly upgrade.

Re: Candied Apple V1.0

`Okay. I guess uninstalling IE7 removes a dll file for IE6, those bad people. I had to re-download IE7, but I didn't do a restart. That way, I could view these sites with IE6 before IE7 would take over. Yeah, I see the mess everywhere now. Thanks for the heads up Henry, sorry. I'll see what I can do to patch up those templates.

kuroi:

I see the same thing with Sanctuary Beads. I also hate IE. I think this brings us closer to an answer. I see the problem in IE6. It is visible in the demo systems for ZEn Cart 1.3.0.2 and 1.3.5. That you don't see it with IE7 and it's not there with FF or Opera (though something else is ) adds weight to this being one of those frustrating IE6 anomolies.

Sorry Kuroi, I missed your posts. Yuppers, it's a nightmare. I don't know what to do, I already upgraded my store. I guess I could try to revamp/retro the brand new Classic template. I think there are only a few selectors updated, I just don't know how many are nixed. I have to think of something quick. :wacko:

Re: Candied Apple V1.0

Great news!! I fixed it.

Candied Apple is still alright to use with the newest version of Zen Cart.

I just have to update both versions in the downloads.

Re: Candied Apple V1.0

By both versions, do you mean Candied Apple and Candied Blueberry? And what was the fix?

And before you update your stylesheets in the downloads make this change too. Move the white-space: nowrap from the #navCatTab list element styling to that for the anchors to fix the Opera and Safari navCatTabs problem i.e. revised CSS is > #navMain ul li, #navSupp ul li, #navCatTabs ul li {

display: inline;

}

#navMain ul li a, #navSupp ul li a, #navCatTabs ul li a {

text-decoration: none;
padding: 0em 0.5em;
margin: 0;
color: #3300ff;
white-space: nowrap;

}

Re: Candied Apple V1.0

Ohhhh, I missed your fix. Thanks for doing that, I hope most users will stop by this thread and see that.

Yuppers, both versions of the Candied templates. Basically, I had to rework the center wrapper(fluid versus fixed size). Then, I rolled back some settings and used my own fix to balance the side columns out by placing the borders on the contents... instead of the actual boxes. IE was weird issues and that seems to nip it in the bud.

Darn, I wish I stopped by this thread before uploading the revamped stylesheets. :lamo:

Re: Candied Apple V1.0

You're welcome and thanks again for bringing it to my attention.

I found a standalone version of MSIE6 for backup design checking, but I don't really need it now. I've updated both Candied versions with my new found fix, in order to roll back the adjustments I did before to trick MSIE7 without knowing the consequences with MSIE6. I've even applied my fix to the current v1.3.5 template and it works perfectly.

It's just one of those senarios where you can either curse MSIE or deal with it. :laugh:

'Madame' :smartass:

I try to be 'zen' as much as I can with MSIE, but it only depends on the amount of patience, sleep, and coffee available. :yes:
