Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Remove the href references in your whole website which are linking out to the old dynamic urls... then generate a new sitemap.

OR

Leave the old references in your site to the old urls and HAND EDIT your sitemap every time you make a new one and remove the OLD urls.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

There is about 2000 links that I have to edit if I chose the second option.

And I have no clue how to remove the href from the site. This is propably better to do so I don't have to edit 2000+ link everytime I update my sitemaps.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Hi All

I think I found the mod I need but before starting the surgery, I want to make sure of two things:

  1. Will this mod work with Zen Cart v1.3.7.1?
  2. I have a lot of other websites pointing to my current pages. Once I install the mod will those URLs be broken?

Thank you!

  1. We have had good success with it in our 1.3.7 site.

  2. The mod will translate as needed. I'm not sure of the details of how this works, but it appears to work seamlessly for us. You can try this out for yourself when you install it. You should try it out in a test environment before installing in production. That should answer a lot of your questions.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Incidentally, those of you who remember the angst of accidentally installing the Spanish language version when you wanted English, you may note that I have uploaded a combined-language update and advanced the version to 2.107. (See http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=231.) It is identical to 2.106, except that both English and Spanish are packaged together in the same zip file. It has been out there since September 5, but I lost track of when it passed review and went live.

Remember, I am not the technical author of this mod and cannot offer any technical support. I just wanted new users to avoid the time-consuming confusion of installing the wrong language. Existing users may keep 2.106 if they wish, or get 2.107 for no particular reason than having the latest number. It's the same internally.

As far as I know, the mod seems to be abandoned, so we're all on our own to support ourselves.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

I tried to uninstall as well. Blank pages show up. I never had .htaccess before this mod in my root folder. I removed the one I added due to this mod, no change. Do I have to keep this mod? I am uninstalling because the moment I enable this, page links break and I get 404 all the time.

Also, I could not get a clear verdict: is this is a good SEO mod?

Opinions vary.
There's Simple SEO URLs in development right now, promises to be very good, check it out.

... is this is a good SEO mod?

As ckosloff noted, opinions vary. If you skim over this very long support thread, you'll see that opinions are indeed strong (at times, combative) both for and against the three competing SEO URL mods (the freebies Simple and Ultimate, and the commercial Magic). The best that can be said is that your individual experience will probably vary from everyone else's. I've been pleased with Ultimate SEO URLs in the month or so we've had it active, but others on this thread will warn you of trouble ahead if you use it. So far, we haven't had the trouble, but we have had the boost in visibility on Google. So net gain for us...so far! Keep in mind that the author has abandoned this mod (as far as I can tell). If Simple SEO URLs is being supported with new development (news to me...thanks, ckosloff!), that might be a point in its favor.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Thanks for your replies. Since I could not uninstall, I had to put it back. It is in disabled state, hence not a problem. How do I make it work? The problem is that after install, home page shows all URLs correctly, but I cannot click on anything. All pages give 404 errors.

Actually yellow's support is awesome
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86353
also, he also posts in this same thread!
If you ask what my vote is, I go for Simple SEO, unparalleled support.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

I was considering using this mod for my own store, but after reading this huge thread I am going to stay far away from it and work on other SEO methods like article writing and improving my content on site and link building.
I wouldn't have any hair left on my head if i was having half of the problems some other posters were having about this mod because i'd be pulling it out in frustration.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Consider this.... People only post when they have a problem. I have installed this mod on more than 50 stores without an issue this year.

Same here, no problem whatsoever with this mod. If you pay attention to all install instructions, no sweat.

Regarding Simple SEO, let me tell you that it works fine, we are only testing for improvements to something that is already in stable state.
