Ultimate SEO URLs

I have one observation.

www.example.com/beauty-c-31.html

www.example.com/kelocote-advanced-formula-scar-treatment-spray-50-ml-p-11129.html

The rewriting could be a tad more efficient if the URLs instead looked like:

www.example.com/c31-beauty

www.example.com/p11129-kelocote-advanced-formula-scar-treatment-spray-50-ml

with the category/product number appearing first and without the .html part included at all.

If the script also includes a feature to redirect to the canonical category/product URL - that is, redirect to the new URL including the category/product name - when there is a request for a URL but the appended 'name' part is either missing or is not quite correct, this would have two benefits. It would prevent Duplicate Content issues as well as allow the posting to Twitter of short URLs like

example.com/c31

example.com/p11129

The single-step on-site 301 redirect to 'correct' the URL would take the user to the right page and allow ZC users to never have to rely on tiny.cc, bit.ly and other such URL shorteners ever again.

That's a double win!

Are there any plans to add an Admin or Config option to select front or rear loading as well as to select whether the .html part is included or suppressed in rewritten URLs?

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Hi rxalex,

I'm not an expert, I have installed this Mod a number of times and might be able to assist you.
Edit the top of your .htaccess to look like this:

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase //

Make sure there is a (.) before the htaccess file.

Also, did you upload and replace/merge the (v138-specific-files) if you are using 1.3.8?

Did you make sure you uploaded every single file (This was a cause to a lot of my 404 errors in my installs!)

On another note, please make sure you rename your Admin folder for security reasons asap as there has been quite a few hacking attempts on mine and a lot of people's website!

Let me know how you go!

Best Regards,

This is not about SEO, as in reality the modules all add issues which eventually make something you do need to do for SEO a problem.

Things such as speed, changing products titles, platform changes and software upgrades, and necessary redirects in the future provide a substantial hindrance.

Rewrite modules are very incorrectly called SEO modules. There is little if an weight for rank and they should likely be called usability modules, as that is the only real benefit.... however it does not outweigh the issues created.

Hi rxalex,

I just checked your website and it seems to be working fine, glad to help :) [Please ensure you rename your admin folder for security reasons!]

As for your question...

rxalex:

Awesome :), Can anyone tell me whats the best seo between Ultimate, Simple and Ceon b/c I was going to discontinue ultimate with all the hassle and go with ceon. Which seo gives best results?

In my experience, I have noticed that it doesn't really make much difference what SEO you use!
I have a number of websites and some have the Ultimate SEO installed, some Chemo and others have None, the only difference it makes is make the URL more friendly to read/identify to your customers.

And if you use Google AdWords and in your AD you provide a URL Link to your product page wich will include the words you might be bidding on!

As for ranking, the MAIN thing to make your website rank higher in ANY search engine, is to include plenty of related Content on your website, Trust me, I have noticed this in all my websites, I rank so much higher then my competition just because of my longer descriptions!!

Other things to do as well, is get your website link on Top Ranking websites that are (Relevant to the Content) on your wesbite!
For example, I noticed you provided your URL in the previous post and when Search Engines index the Zen-Cart Forum and find your link on it, it will lift your ranking!

There are other things to consider in order to rank higher which you should look into.

As far as which SEO to use, obviously one that functions the way it is suppose too, so if Ultimate SEO is working for you now, then just stick with it and follow the advise I wrote above to achive higher ranking!

Best Regards,

shrimp-gumbo-mmmhhh:

Has anyone using Ultimate SEO been able to get Fast and Easy checkout or Fast and Easy Ajax Checkout to work? The author states that it currently will not work with Ultimate SEO.....

I had used fec 1.6.2 without problems with ultimate - but the newest version definitely doesn't work and he does not support the older versions.

RewriteBase //

I am sure that a double slash is not valid.

While it might 'work' now, it could stop working at any moment.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Hi,

I have a redirect problem with my homepage, my web is http://www.2daydietslim.com/ I use Ultimate SEO URLs and i think maybe the problem is caused by Ultimate SEO URLs..

If I visit this 404 URL http://www.2daydietslim.com/iahsd1hhasuhd, it will redirect to homepage, I don't want this, I hope it can redirect to Page_not_found page.

But if I visit this 404 URL http://www.2daydietslim.com/iahsd1hhasuhd.html, it will redirect to Page_not_found page.

My english is poor, I hope you can understand me.

Please help, thanks

Set to Page Not Found

~Melanie

Hello Melanie,

I opened Missing Page Check, and found it is already set Page Not Found.

If I open http://www.2daydietslim.com/jkajdajd.html, the page can redirect to Page_not_found page, so i think Page_not_found page is working now, But i don't know why http://www.2daydietslim.com/jkajdajd cannot redirect to Page_not_found page.

It is not friendly to SEO, Im worried about it..:wacko:

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Do your products each now have new product ID numbers, numbers which differ from the numbers used in the old version of the store?

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Each product does have a new product id... This is a great mod traffic wise... but thinking maybe should use one of the others since these issues may become more of a problem. Please share your thoughts...

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Hi guys

Noob in zencart .. came from Oscommerce :)

How can i strip tags from title?
I.e. i have title

<b>Bob Dylan</b><br>13.06.2010 - Hala Tivoli - Ljubljana (20:00)

therefore, seo makes link like

bbob-dylanbbr13062010-hala-tivoli-ljubljana-2000-p-1388.html

any idea, how to strip tags b and br out? .. also those number at back?

Thank you very much!
