Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

To do this without customization, you'd need to have the Top Level Category be only Document General ... then the subcategories can be both ...

To have separate boxes you would need to customize the 2nd Categories Sidebox ...

Thanks. Will it work, if I set the top category to Documents General, and leave the sub cats at Product General, or do the sub cats have to be set to BOTH?

On the subcats if you don't also include the Document General you won't see them when you hit the Top Cat ...

I think I posted too soon. Those instructions do tell how to change the title of sideboxes, however...I don't see the "Documents" box in the /public_html/includes/languages/english.php file.

How do we change the name from "Documents" to something else?

OK, Tim. Here it is:

/public_html/includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/

Find "Documents" and change it to what you want.

I am using 1.3.8.

This is only for main category, not for the document.

I just tried the way kbmets7 said, it works, thanks it should be:

Kim (earlier in this thread) said to use a different product type for each one (sidebox we want). However, I experimented and couldn't make it work. I would also like to have more than two, but haven't figured it out yet. If you do, please let me know.

Marking it as Restricted to Product General allows normal Products to be added ...

Providing you set all of the Categories to both:
Document General
Product General

Is this still valid? I noticed a setting in the product types:
This Product can be added to cart

Could this be set for yes to achieve the same thing as the double restriction?

I'm sorry - but I fail to see how that answers my question. At this time I only need 2 category boxes - the document general as mentioned in this thread should work for my current needs on this.

However, when I restricted them to both product types I got a listing in both boxes. When I was looking at the product types I noticed that the document general had a check box by the statement: This Product can be added to cart

Which led me to my question as to whether it was still necessary to restrict to both categories or if this was a modification since the original post - this would then solve my double listing problem.

Sorry - the two previous posters were asking for more than two category boxes.

If you have the category restricted to only doc-gen, even if you can set it to add to cart I don't think you can get the same information input in the product creation page.

OH Oh...I've got the same problem as Ralyn...I don't want the categories showing in both boxes.

I might have to play around with eliminating them if they appear on a list.

With my eyesight and typing abilities this should prove very interesting.
