Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

Ok I got the Document Sidebox showing, but as stated by others the category still shows up in the original Category Sidebox. Also, and I just realized this...I have the Categories_Dropdown_Select installed so I have a dropdown menu for my categories and I also need this for the Documetns Sidebox but I'm confusing myself on how to do it...

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

would anything get messed up if I made a sidebox that just had absolute links to the sections I needed it to, and dressed it up to look like another categories box?

That should cause no problems whatsoever.

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

I want to create 2 category boxes with products on both boxes that can be added to cart.

On one category box, there is no problem since I am using product general with all the normal settings for this.

On the other category box, I used a document general. Enabled the Add to cart feature and also used the document_product handler so that I can input price in admin.

All seems to be working well however, the price, ask a question, free shipping icon, all that block above the product description is not displaying on the document general. The document general template shows the blocks there, it just does not display.

Does anyone know how I can make this display? Thanks!

I think you missed a step. The category needs to be set to doc-gen, but it also needs to be set to product-general, and you create the products as usual. The doc-gen is only used to distinguish which categories display in which box.

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

Create the category, then go back and edit it. At the bottom of the page (Restrict to Product Type), select Document-General, then click Add Include Subcategories. When it refreshes, select Product-General and click Add Include Subcats.

The page will now show the two product types enabled. Save it.

When you go to create a product in the category, the dropdown will let you choose which of those two types to use.

Wow I was making it more difficult that it actually is. Your suggestion came out great! Thanks for pointing me to to the right direction!

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

This is also what I've been looking for. I'd like to have the Documents box look exactly like the categories box- same styling and all.

I'm using ZC 1.3.8 with the Acadame template so some of the headings are a bit smaller than others and I'm unsure as to what to change in the css to accomplish this.

https://www.broadwayfloral.com is the site. I'd appreciate any nudge in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

First, get your documents box running with some products in it, so you can see the classes that it uses for styling. Once you have that, you can work on appearance.

Alternatively, the new version of Categories Dressing can be styled to look like as many separate boxes as you like, and even moved into different positions. See the support thread, posts 501-510, for example screenshots.

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

I looked at your submission and was a little intimidated - I don't know ccs well enough to make changes confidently.

I may have to take another look.

Thanks,
Doug

Thanks Glenn.

I've printed out the readme and will move this conversation over to the support threat. I'll load a test site and give it a go.

yellow1912:

Do you put each "category box" under 1 parent category? If so you can use Simple Category module.

Where is this module? I couldn't find it. Thanks.

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

It is probably available through yellow1912's website, rubikintegration.com; there is no longer a link to it in his sig. It may be posted in a thread here.

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

I know it's been asked before, but I didn't see a solution...How do I remove the new categories [that I want to only show up in the document sidebox] from my normal category box?

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

P.S. I tried setting the top level category to documen-general only, but it still shows it both sideboxes. :D

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

Admin > Configuration > Layout Settings > Split Categories Box
Split the categories box display by product type

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

I checked my settings, and it was already set to 'true.'

Issue is with the Click-Show-Hide menu I believe. Ima take a look at it and see if I can figure anything out.

Re: Is it possible to have 2 Category boxes?

I do not know enough about PHP to make it work, but it appears that the Clcik-Show-Hide Menu mod does not include the code that would make this work. :D Phew at least it's just the mod...
