Sales report 2.0

Pauls:

Thanks for a great contrib Frank ...
Actually using the JavaScript menu does not work, I did try this method several times, the only way I can make it work between two dates (UK date format in my admin and store remember) is to MANUALLY enter the dates in the american date format.
The problem is that the date conversion is hard-coded, broken apart and stored in variables in the class file according to American date format. You can see it for yourself beginning on line 53 in the class. I can see that some modularization here is in order. Will add it to the to-do list.

For those of you who can't use the spiffycal, sorry. The code works great for me and the employees in my company, which is who I designed it for (posting code is my way of giving back). It also works fine in IE and Firefox (I have no Opera users in my office). I went with spiffycal as opposed to separate dropdowns because, well, when you run that report on a daily basis, those dropdowns get super-tedious. It all goes back to who this report is designed for: true-blue accountants and book keepers.

If you like the new version great. If it doesn't meet your needs, or offers more options than you need, you're welcome to continue to use the old version, or nothing at all. It really doesn't bother me either way. Really.

Re: Sales report 2.0

Does anyone no how I can change the output so that +Product Line Items & +Order Line Items are combined. So that I can download all the data in one spreadsheet.

The fields important to me are:

Order ID
Customer Name
Number of Products ordered
Product Names ordered
Model Nos.

I don't know php but it doesn't seem like it would take much programming. I really need this feature and am willing to pay someone to help me with this.

Re: Sales report 2.0

There's no logical way to create the report that you are asking for. If each line represents an order, how can you display the products attached to that order? Each order can have a different number of products. Those product lists create an impossible layout issue...

  • The product column will not be the same for each line
  • The column for a large order will stretch the report to a ridiculous degree.
  • How do you correlate a model number to each product if they are all on the same line?
I have a current freelance job in which we initially discussed this same thing. Would you believe I actually argued against going that route? Believe me, I went around this issue a zillion times trying to combine the information. That's exactly why there are two different formats: to display itemized information [1] in a comfortably formatted tabular layout, and [2] with a consistent dataset on each line.

Re: Sales report 2.0

I think I understand what you are saying. But all I really need is 2 extra columns on the +Product Line items output display, 1 for customers name and 1 for the order no. is this still unrealistic.

Re: Sales report 2.0

Also not possible, for the same reasoning as above. Each line represents all of the given product sold in that time period. If that product appears on more than 1 order, how are you going to display all the order numbers on a single line, since the number of orders will vary for each product? Customer name is exactly the same situation, since that's attached to an order number. You again are trying to place a value of inconsistent length on a single line.

Re: Sales report 2.0

Real newbie zenner here, so I apologize if this type of problem has been answer somewhere already. I have set-up our store and things are working fine (thanks Zen developers!).

I'm trying to install the Sales report 2.0 according to the read.me file and it seems to install correctly. It shows correctly in the Admin -> Reports menu, but when I click on it, I get a blank page. No error, no header, just a blank page.

This is on a test server behind a firewall, so I can't provide a link. But I'm running Zen_cart 1.3.2, Php 5.1.4, MySQL 5.0, Apache 1.2.33 and my client is running javascript. I have tried this in both IE and Firefox. Neither of these gives a javascript error either.

Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Re: Sales report 2.0

Make sure you uploaded all the files, and make sure said files are in the right places. If you upload the language file into /admin folder instead of /admin/includes/languages/english/, the page will parse properly but appear blank since it only creates defines.

Re: Sales report 2.0

Thanks for the reply BlindSide! I have double checked the file locations and everything seems th be in the proper place. Just to clarify, there is a stats_sales_report.php in the /admin directory and a different stats_sales_report.php in the /admin/includes/languages/english directory, right? That's what the download did anyway.

The page still comes up blank. View source comes up with no source code. Sorry!

Re: Sales report 2.0

Yes they are different, and having the language file where the output file should be would cause precisely the behavior you are describing.

I recommend you simply re-upload the entire contrib from the zip file. The files are all arranged into the proper folder structure, so just upload the "admin" folder into the same folder where your server's "admin" folder sits, and the files will drop into place automatically. So if your admin is in a folder on your server called "/store," you would upload the contrib "admin" folder right into "/store."

Re: Sales report 2.0

Is there a reason you chose to seemingly randomly populate the EXCLUDE_PRODUCTS variable? Really screws up one's report when you exclude a bunch of products.

Other than that, great report. Any chance you can optionally show paypal fees? Most all my sales are through paypal. I modified the last version, and I can mod this one as well, but if its something more people can use, maybe it would be good to have an option.

Re: Sales report 2.0

Whoops! That was an oversight on my part, and I apologize. Remember that the code I develop is for my full-time company, so it has company-specific settings in it. Normally I default or clear out the options, I just missed it this time.

Open /admin/includes/languages/english/stats_sales_report.php and look for the line that begins with...

define('EXCLUDE_PRODUCTS', serialize(array(

Delete the product ID's inside the parentheses, so that what you have left looks like this...

define('EXCLUDE_PRODUCTS', serialize(array( )) );

Again, sorry for the confusion. The next release will have those values cleared.

Re: Sales report 2.0

Yeah, I already did that. I just wanted to make sure there wasnt any particular reason (and also to point it out in case other people were having the same issues).

Thanks for the quick response though :)

Re: Sales report 2.0

I don't seem to be able to get the manufacturers to show up on my report. The column is there, but the manufacturer doesn't show up...any idea why?

I'm also getting this error in the middle of my report:

<br /> <b>Warning</b>: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in <b>/home/digiscr/public_html/shopping/admin/includes/classes/sales_report.php</b> on line <b>892</b><br /> <br /> <b>Warning</b>: array_multisort() [<a href='function.array-multisort'>function.array-multisort</a>]: Argument #1 is expected to be an array or a sort flag in <b>/home/digiscr/public_html/shopping/admin/includes/classes/sales_report.php</b> on line <b>899</b><br /> <br /> <b>Warning</b>: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in <b>/home/digiscr/public_html/shopping/admin/includes/classes/sales_report.php</b> on line <b>914</b><br /> Help?

Re: Sales report 2.0

Are you using the "+ Product Line Items" display option? Can you confirm that you have manufacturers on the products being displayed?

Regarding the PHP errors you are seeing, please run the report that generates this error, but choose "Print Format" for the output format. Then, copy the text that appears below the header and before the report and paste it into a post here. That will tell me exactly what report criteria you are searching and allow me to attempt to reproduce it.

Re: Sales report 2.0

Yes to both of the first questions...what's weird is that the only ones that have an actual entry in the manufacturers column are those that DON'T have a manufacturer set on them and they show --none-- .

Here's the text you asked for:

Date of order creation
Daily timeframes sorted asc
Displaying + Product Line Items

Thanks for the help!

Re: Sales report 2.0

It would seem that the ugly error occurred because there were no orders on a particular date. It shows up between September 27 & 29 and there are no orders on the 28th.

I'd still love to discuss further modifications to this report, even if it costs money. I would, however, like to share both the cost and the report with others who do what I do. Is this a possibility?

That's right I almost forgot! A freelance customer found this error and pointed it out to me. I have fixed it for the upcoming release.

Yes, I do freelance work on the side, usually along the lines of what you're saying. That work si then released back to the public with an acknowledgement that you or your company were responsible for "sponsoring" the modifications. There's some very cool new features headed to my Super Orders contribution by this very practice.

However I've never dealt with a group of people going in on a module together, and would be wary about doing so. Each person may want different things, so how do you calculate shared costs when each person wants slightly different features? It's the same reason I avoid committees wherever possible in my life in general.

Re: Sales report 2.0

I am intersted in working with you in that capacity and would be willing to discuss a split of some type depending on the costs involved. I do agree that it is probably better to keep them separate but share the results with the community.

Look forward to discussing further.

Re: Sales report 2.0

Well, here's the thing...I KNOW what we need and I know alot of people need it and since it will be released to the public after it's done, I don't really think it's fair for me to pay the entire fee, KWIM? But, I guess I can go to a select group, we can figure out exactly what we want, you can price it and then we (being the group) can sort out how to divide up the cost between us. Even if they know it will be public, I'll also tell them that I won't pay for it alone since so many of us will benefit. Does that sound like the way to go?

Oh, and about that manufacturers issue I originally posted about...they are still not showing up.

Yes, but I think you have a slightly skewed view of how paying for open-source software works. Yes the code that you paid for goes back to the community, free of charge to them, and an acknowledgement is not an 100% equal tradeoff.

However, remember that you DID get the original code for free, and your modifications will be tailored to your needs. So instead of looking at it as if the community is getting a free ride on your dime, look at it instead as rewarding the person who gave it you that code in the first place and/or as a way to give back to a community that provides you with great free software (hint: the Zen Cart team accepts donations on this same premise).

For another point of view, take me, for example. I don't need to hire coders because I can do whatever I need myself. Theoretically I could charge for each contrib, and there are those that do. However my company has brought in over $30k in revenue directly because of ShopDI and Zen Cart. Since we are non-profit, those dollars go right back into the vacuum, making monetary donations tough. So I give back by offering my customizations back to the community; my boss even sanctions my volunteer support of the community.

It's food for thought, anyway.

Oh, and about that manufacturers issue I originally posted about...they are still not showing up.
Haven't looked at that yet, but I don't have any idea where to start, as you are the first to report such an issue. Are you doing anything "fancy" with your products, product types, or manufacturers that I should be aware of? Any customizations beyodn simply creating manufacturers in the Admin and assigning them to products?
