Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

Its not that you WILL have problems, its that you CAN have problems. When the Zen Team upgrades, they (rightfully) assume they can do what they want to core files, including the database tables. What if one of their updates did a tear-through of the products table? If that happens (the chance it will seems little to me though) I think most mods (that are made for editing or showing product info) will not work anymore anyway, with or without using separate tables. Unless the mod only reads the products_id from the products table of course...

And it's possible to remove fields from the database as well as tables, when using MySQL. Writing the sql that removes the fields will take more effort than simply dropping a table, that's true.

Anyway I think it's not such a big deal to add some 1-1 data to the same table, but I will keep it in mind.

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

I installed this on 1.3.6 and no new fields have been added. When I go to Reports--->Products Profit I get FILE NOT FOUND for this file:

admin/FILENAME_STATS_PRODUCTS_PROFIT.php

make sure all files you were trying to upload are there.. certain FTP softwares are prone to "skipping" files during uploads

also you still need to do 2-3 manual edits in language files.. the one you're pointing out is one of them

sorry for the lack of development.. been busy with orders on the site :P. I'm not sure if I'll continue development for too long on it because Quick Updates is planning to add a cost field as well.. so if that one does it I'll be putting this one to rest.

Current status of the developmental one - still have about 5-6 files that I need to see if they can be overridden.. all language/functions files have been split into their own area so they no longer overwrite core code

I like this mod but manually entering percentages for 10000 products is a bit daunting. Like the other guy, I just run the calc on a spreadsheet before bulk uploading, but I like the idea of the report. Would be nice to see this with quick updates too.

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

unfortunately i've been really busy lately with family and getting ready for college coming up again.. so i'm posting the developmental package up with all my current work so far. please note that if you are currently using this mod there is no need to update, there isn't a great description of whats changed or anything like that. this is meant strictly for someone who would want to take up this project instead and make it go beyond what it is now by fixing most of the bugs and stuff like that.

the only changes i've had time to make is split most of the stuff into their own files, but there are still about 5 files that need to be changed and used as overrides instead

inside the package are the following:

This Mod (V2 - current development)
This Mod (V1 - the one that is in the downloads section)
Profit margin calculator (original mod by farrukh)
profit margin report (original mod by farrukh)

i have been using the last 3 as reference for V2 as far as file structure, sql, and everything goes.. but again i've been really busy and haven't had enough time to work on this.. so its better in someone elses hands

download: http://www.gygh.net/PPMCR-under-construction.zip (this will be up until February at least.. i have a local copy of it in case i find time during college to work on it.. so if that site goes down for some reason PM me and i'll upload it onto another server)

Thanks everyone, apologies for letting you guys down on this

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

FYI - I posted an update to v1 (v1.1) which extends the profit margin calculator to include other product types:

product_general (was the only one supported previously)
product_download
product_free_shipping
product_music

No effort was made to clean up the implementation of the module and no code was rewritten. Just modifications to the new product_type code to allow it to work.

Hope this is useful to others.

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

Is there an actual install.txt file for this? I was using the wholesale pricing add-on which I lost by installing this. If I had the install file, I could easily integrate the files if I knew what to look for.

I am used to installing php mods on a phpbb forum where there are install files that state..

Look For...
After Add...
Code to add

etc.

I would really like to be able to use the combination of these two add-ons since they both would be valuable to have in a wholesale/retail shop.

BTW - I really like the features of this add-on.

If this MOD is dead shouldn't it be removed. It seems there is no support for it and no new development going on.

I would hate to see people add them then find out it doesn't do what they want and then not be able to get support.

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

it would be nice to see third mod deleted if it isn't functional and there is no longer any support to make it functional.

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

Can some one help me on this

I don'r know if it is very dificult to make this, but for me I need to input directly
the product Cost and that is the normal.
And the second Field: Gross Margin $ instead of the Markup Percent, that need to be automaticly calculated.

I've allready tried to make this to work, but without any success.

Does some one manage to link this with the mod "quick updates" or "inventory report" ?

Thanks !!!

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

I too am looking for a way to get rid of this too, and I am considering rolling back to a backup of my store made a few weeks ago. Is there any way, even manually, to remove this program?

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

Question: I just installed the profit share report, and it seems to be working fine.

I wanted to know if anyone knows if the profit share report takes into account changes in sales price? For example, if I have a product set to $10.00, and I discount it to $5.00 for one week, and raise it back to $10.00 thereafter, will the profit report base the final profit figure off the fluctuation in sale prices.

In other words, I sell 10 units at $10.00, sell 10 units at the discounted price, and another 10 units at $10.00 thereafter. The total gross sales would be $250 dollars. Let's say my cost per unit is $1.00, therefore, my total profit would be $225.

So, the question remains, would this come out correctly in the zencart module, or would the profit report not recognize the units sold at the discounted $5 once I raised the price up to $10.00, backdating those units sold to the current price?

I hope that is not too confusing and makes sense.

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

So I've modded EasyPopulate to take and insert all the correct fields based on my OpenOffice file. The problem seems to be that the Profit Margin mod won't read those out of the DB when I edit a file. Kind of useless.

Anybody have experience with this?

Re: Products Profit/Margin Calculator and Report for 1.3.5!

I am sure I am not the only one asking myself how I can uninstall this mod (especially the added SQL patch).
I'm having a conflict with my bookkeeping software and need to remove it asap.

Your db is easy, just open PhpMyadmin and go to your products table and remove the following fields - products_cost, products_markup, products_margin_gross_dollar and products_margin_gross_percent. Then go to your orders_products table and remove one field - products_cost. Just look at the structure of those two tables tick the box next to the field and scroll down and click the red x button. Or you can write a quick query to remove those fields, which ever you are more comfortable with. Takes two minutes.

To remove the files just open the contribution and remove added files and revert to your backup files... you did back up your files...right?

Hope that helps.
