Better Together Contribution Support Thread

I talked to the boss about donating and he seemed open to doing so. I'll keep pressing him or at least get him to buy your version with the admin tools.

Been using Better Together for a while, and i find it fantastic!

I understand that right now, Better Together can only allow you to pair 2 items together. So if i have a product, and i want my customer to buy ribbons at discount price, i can do that.

Now i want my customer to be able to buy my product and get discounts on 2 items, first the ribbons, and then the tags, is that possible?

And for the matter, can i extend to 3 or 4 items?

Hi I have figured out how to use and I do find it easy to use. I need help with 2 things, first I do not have the page under admin>define pages> no page here to define? (i have edited the file directly and it's working just wondering how do I get it to the define pages area so that I can make changes easier), second, I would like to put the better together discount link on the left side in the categories box, is there a way to do that?

If you are using the better together promotional page from my website, and you want to use the defines pages editor, you need to copy the file up one level so that includes/languages/english/html_includes/custom/define_bettertogether_promo.php and includes/languages/english/html_includes/define_bettertogether_promo.php both exist.

On the second question, see step 3 in the README file for the better together promotional page.

This one is still elusive to me, I have added to that page and it places the text there, but it is not in the same format as the rest of my boxes in the categories blue box section. I'll keep playing with it but if you have any other ideas, I'd love to hear them.

I have better together installed and am using it for a buy from one category get item from other category at $5 off. It works fine alone. What doesn't work is when it is used along side the ZenCart Coupon Discount on a taxable good. I am having some problems on the checkout calculations.

Right now I am only taxing to California residents and this problem only applies to those orders that involve tax...

If the BT Discount comes after the 10% off Coupon Discount in the sort order things calculate fine it seems. However, if it comes before the coupon discount (as my client prefers) it deducts some change from the total of the coupon discount. For example:

Sub-Total: $190.00
FREE SHIPPING! (Free Shipping Only):$0.00
Matching Set Discount:-$10.00 <-Better Together
Discount Coupon: 10%OFF :-$17.92
CA TAX 8.25%: $13.36
Total: $175.44

So the Discount coupon should really be for $18.
error in price varies depending on what's in the cart...it's not always an $.08 difference.

I have no idea why this is happening. Both modules are set to:
Include tax: False
Recalculate Tax: Standard

Quick question, Is it possible to do, was looking through all the notes and couldn't see anything that could make a restriction relative to price:

Spend £35 on Cat 349
and get any Prod from Cat 39 Free

Has anyone had difficulties getting this to function? I have uploaded the files and added the code manually and with the admin plugin and it wont add the discount at checkout. My goal is to get category 3 to have 60% when buying anything from category 1. I've tried product to product code as well. No discount is showing in the shopping cart. Anyone had this and resolved it or know what I could be doing wrong? I followed the install to its every detail. :unsure: :lost:

I've looked at various discounting modules and I'm not sure which one will do the trick.

I'd like to offer combinations of two and three items where:

1. If you buy A, you get a percent discount on either B or C or Both.

2. and....where the discount-module has quantity ceilings/maximums, and then default item pricing takes over - meaning, over certain item quantities (per type of item) - the item's regular sliding pricing (through native zencart) applies.

Perhaps there could be quantity ranges like this:

If you buy 2-4 of A, then you get percentage discounts on 3-6 of B and/or percentage discounts on 1-2 of C.

However, what I'm trying to avoid is where a small quantity of A is ordered so as to trigger too big of a discount on large quantities of C.

Meaning, if 1 of A is ordered just to get a 50% discount on 1,000 of C, on top of any native sliding discount in the zen item pricing.

I can see that many of the discount modules can have a MINIMUM required quantity, but can any of the modules also have MAXIMUM quantity - so as to create bracketed discounted groupings? Maybe it's just a case of creating further tiers out to 0% discounts.

I've spent the whole morning trying to figure out why the discounts weren't working and finally I figured out that I was using a Linked product ID. You have to be using the main category ID of the product or category otherwise the discounts don't work.

Thanks for the reminder Swguy. I installed Better Together awhile back then forgot about it, and installed some more modules on top of that. So I wasn't entirely sure if the problem was because of the additional modules or not.

After reading through your help article... am I correct to think that if I have Better Together set up correctly using parent categories, if the customer buys from a linked category, they will still get the discounts?

You must refer to the parent category (not the linked category) in your add_ statement. And be careful about using the Marketing text - see the notes in the page I gave you for ideas on how to do this.
