Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

Sorry it took so long. I would have done it sooner, but I wasn't at a computer all weekend. My apologies.

Thanks again for your help.

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

Grumble grumble.
Having just fixed this, another person is reporting a problem with URLs containing &. Some server configurations don't properly decode & into & which leads to a product not found. I can reproduce this problem and I'm working on a patch.

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

OK, the fix for this problem has just been submitted to the downloads site.

For those who are in a hurry, please go to l. 12 of tpl_social.php
which should be

$linkpath = urlencode($linkpath);

please change this to

while (strstr($linkpath, '&'))
$linkpath = str_replace('&', '&', $linkpath);

$linkpath = urlencode($linkpath);

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

Latest version has been posted to the download site. Thanks to Larry for reporting this problem.

If you have already installed this mod and you don't want Socializer and you're not having any problems, there's no reason to update; if you would like Socializer or you are having problems with the URLs that this mod generates, please get the latest copy.

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

I just installed this mod and get an error when bookmarking to de.licio.us

It's turning the "&" sign into "&".

I had to d/l the 1.3 version since my cart is 1.3.0.2 and I didn't think the 1.3.5 would work. What should I do?

I have an SEO mod installed but I have the SEO urls turned off in admin due to a previous conflict issue.

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

Cool mod! This is very appreciated!

I found one bug and have two modification questions:

It's not correctly encoding foreign characters in the product's name. In our case, the danish å, æ, ø.

It'd be better if it opened a new window when someone clicks on these links. It hijacks the customer away from our site now. How can this be changed?

I'd really like to put these links on our main page, so our customers can link to the shop main page, rather than a product page. I've got the basic idea for how to do this, but the beginning of tpl_social file has me a bit confused. I just need to take out the product_info parts of the url... can you offer any help?

These are both good ideas. I'll put up fixes shortly.

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

I have just submitted Social Bookmarking 1.3 to the downloads area, so it should be available within the next 48 hours. It always opens the bookmarking links on a new page, and gives you some code to do the bookmarking on the front page (which you will need to integrate yourself - one suggested integration is provided which may or may not be suitable for you).

Good luck,
Scott

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

Social Bookmarking 1.4 is now available in the downloads area. Bookmarking via AddThis (see https://www.addthis.com) has been added. Also, for those who bookmark on the main page (or other non-product pages), the code has been tightened up so you only need to make your customizations in one place.

AddThis has an interesting "tracking" feature so you can see what items people are social bookmarking. Instructions on adding this are in the FAQ.

The four bookmarking icons, the socializer and AddThis are now all enabled by default, so you can see them when you first install. In all likelihood, you will want to cull this down to either AddThis or the bookmarking (plus socializer). The relevant switches are in
./includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/social_defines.php

Good luck,
Scott

Looked for FAQ.

In your code ```

<?php if (defined('USE_ADDTHIS') && (USE_ADDTHIS == '1')) { echo '<a href="http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php?url=' . $linkpath . '&title=' . $linktitle . '" target="_blank" title="' . ADDTHIS_ALT . '">'.'<img src="bm_images/button1-bm.gif" alt="' . ADDTHIS_ALT . '" border="0" width="125" height="16" /></a>'; echo "<br />"; } ?> <?php ``` and the code from add this for adding a bookmark ``` <!-- AddThis Bookmark Button BEGIN --> <a href="http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php?pub=Pablosan&url='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent(document.title), 'addthis', 'scrollbars=yes,menubar=no,width=620,height=520,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,location=no,status=no'); return false;" title="Bookmark using any bookmark manager!" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.addthis.com/images/button1-bm.gif" width="125" height="16" border="0" /></a> <!-- AddThis Bookmark Button END --> ``` I want to use the tracking feature. Not sure how to go about this.

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

i have a problem. I installed this as per the instructions, it was doing great until i hit step 6:

copy ./includes/languages/english/html_includes/custom/define_main_page.php
to your site's root directory.

it took over the entire content of my page, except the categories which is supposed to be all the way at the bottom. I renamed that file in the root it did the same thing. I DELETED it and my site is still the same way. What the heck happened? how do i repair it? thanks..

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping

Great contribution! Thanks a lot swguy. I just have one question -

I currently have 36 EZ pages in my store and will be adding a whole bunch of articles in the next few days, so is there a way to insert an AddThis button in the body of the EZ pages without having to manually insert it into every page?

I've looked everywhere for an EZ pages body template but have only succeeded in locating the header and footer tpls which also puts the bookmark link on SSL/Checkout pages which I'd like to avoid.

Does anyone know of a simple way to turn off the bookmark code on SSL pages? That way I could just put the original AddThis.com's code in my tpl_header or tpl_main_page and be done with it, which would be really nice... unless there are other complications with doing that ...

Thanks again for the great contribution!
