Admin page not showing

Okay, after some more research, here's what I've found.I looked at the file in cpanel. In cpanel, there was some unusual symbols before the <?php . It is not there when I look at the file in notepad. When I look at it in notepad++, there is, of course the line numbers. So, is it notepad++, filezilla, or cpanel. Previously I used notepad, the browser version of ftp and, of course, cpanel. I have uploaded a couple of scripts using this setup without any problems. I downloaded notepad++ and filezilla because they were recommended in the ZenCart documentation.
Thanks,

Melissa

Re: Admin page not showing

It sounds like you're using the right tools.

I'm not sure what's putting those extra characters there.

Why not copy-and-paste from line 2 onwards into another blank file, and then add <?php to line 1. Then save the file and upload it over the original?

Re: Admin page not showing

I had to change 2 settings in notepad++ to get things working right. In the format menu, I set it to convert to unix and encode in ANSI instead of UTF-8. Now, things appear to be working fine.
Thanks to all for the help.

Re: Admin page not showing

My problem is a little different, if i go to https://www.mysite.com/admin it takes me to domain admin (http://www.mysite.com:444/login.php) and not to zen site admin.

I think there is a conflict between two admins. Will renaming zen admin to something else solve this problem? can anybody help please.

Re: Admin page not showing

Hi me again and I hope the last posting that you have from me on this subject.

Since my initial posting to this forum and the advice and help that you gave me I have had my hosting provider checking several of my servers for an answer to this problem.

For two weeks they tried to find it, and I finally gave them a rollocking and they then passed it to a senior engineer.

Today he/she came back with the answer.....

Carriage return before <?PHP on nearly all the admin pages, not on the public files but only on the admin pages.

Now, I know somebody at the start of all this told me that there mustn't be any spaces before the php tags and I did check, honestly. Either I checked the wrong set of files because I have the original download from Zen and also a backup copy of my site, so I looked again today and there they were!

Moral is - Check every single file in your working copy of admin for carriage returns.

I don't know how they got there and why only in admin and not in public?
Is the installer putting them in? Is my FTP programme putting them in? Whatever, I have done several virgin installs from more than one copy of Zencart and this problem is there from minute one!

Answer is I think to upload Zencart, install, download to desktop, open ALL admin files in good text editor [I use Crimson Editor] remove all the naughties and re-upload them to server.

I now have a reliable working admin and a very red face, there are some engineers in Manchester that I will REALLY need to buy coffee for!

Re: Admin page not showing

You really should not be getting those spaces on the files ...

Zen Cart loads from a standard FTP session, as is, without editing ...

What FTP software are you using?

What type of server is your site on? windows or unix?

What version of php?
