you completly rewrite the account creation process,

The PC terms are Mr and Ms. if you are having issues with the politicaly correct terms please in ZC admin -> configuration -> customer settings, just turn this portion OFF

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

Thanks,

This strikes me as odd though, I thought "Mrs" was a commonly accepted prefix for a married woman. Didn't realise there were any PC issues with it. What is the issue?

I've disabled it for now but is there a way of adding this option in?

Mrs. is the commonly accepted prefix for married women. Ms. is generally used if you are uncertain of the woman's status (is she Miss Jones or Mrs. Jones?) or if the woman doesn't want to reveal her marital status. Mr. doesn't indicate if a man is married or not. Even if Mrs. is available as an option, many women will use the Ms. option.

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

Fair enough, that's my understanding of it too.

But if someone is creating their own account they will be choosing the prefix, so let him/her choose:

Ms. Mrs. Miss are what I've always regarded as the standard prefix options.

Don't want to get into a debate on this just thought this might be a pointer for future development. Just set up my first site with ZC and it's great!

Don't know if having a prefix Ms. for a Mrs Smith would affect credit card payments in any way...

I still don't get the PC issue ??

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

womens rights groups came up with this in the 70's
thats what the politically correct is about,

this has been discussed for along time and has been said will be looked into in the future.

but as Afo said
alot of women choose to use ms. especially on internet forms to hide their marital status,

keeps the whackos from knowing if they live alone or not

No it will not affect credit card payments at all,

that isnt even sent to the CC companies just first and last

this is a funny thread, I always thought the customer was right, if they want to be called Mrs let them, to put this as a PC issue is highly entertaining. thanks for the laugh

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

I'm sorry, but how this issue wasn't thought of in the first place is laughable.

I've got a customer asking me to add 'Mrs' to the salutation field and to be told that I "have to rewrite the entire account creation process" makes the whole thing absolutely ridiculous.

It's also funny how everyone uses political correctness as an excuse for not including an option which should be available. It shouldn't be about technology, any software with a registration process should give you the option to include 'Mr', 'Mrs', 'Sir', 'King' and 'President'.

Sorry, i meant to say "it shouldn't be about womens rights", not 'technology', which it is :P

Absolutely agree with you and i dislike political correctness and when they wrote the Zen Cart code they should not have let political correctness in the door.

The more options the better as it then covers all bases.

Due to lack of choice i just switched this feature off in the admin section.

Perhaps when Zen Cart 2 is released we will get more options.

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

While there is an issue of political correctness in some regions (in others it simply doesn't exist) that's all a bit of a distraction here.

More fundamentally, the cart from which Zen Cart was derived did not have a salutation system, just a field for gender. That's now labelled (in English) Mr and Ms as marginally better than asking people whether they're male or female.

To change this is a lot of work (as Merlin hinted early in the thread). However, since "Salutation vs Gender support" was number 6 on list of features for the original roadmap for the release that has become 2.0, all we need to do is wait a little and we'll have a version of Zen Cart where that work has been done for us.

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

I've found a temporary fix - I really don't know what the huff is about.

So far I've changed 5 files:

includes/templates/your_template/templates/tpl_modules_create_account.php
(To change whats displayed in the gender area)

includes/modules/create_account.php
(To loosen up on the validation from the gender fields)

includes/languages/english.php
(To add new language constants for the new gender options)

admin/customers.php
(To change the gender field to a text box)

admin/languages/english.php
(To change 'gender' to 'salutation' to avoid confusion)

I also increased the size of the customers_gender field in the customers table.

I realise there are some other things to change like the account details page, but there's no way that was a big huff.

Awaits a flurry of payment gateway related problems:lookaroun

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

I've done it on the basis that it's completely mr/mrs/ms, not gender.

It's pretty much just turning it from a switch into just a normal field.

All I've done is loosen up the gender field to allow any value, not just 2.

With ZC i normally hack away at things, not modify them.

Anyway, I'll attach an example of what I've done. It's probably by no means the best way to do anything!!!

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

If you're interested in letting users edit this field in the edit profile page, modify these two files as well:

/includes/modules/pages/account_edit/header.php
/includes/templates/CUSTOM/templates/tpl_account_edit_default.php

The changes there are similar to the ones for the create account page, except you have to populate the fields with data.

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

Hi

Im a new Zenner and have lots to learn.

Im currently interested in having 3 options for creating an account (Mr, Mrs, Ms.)

However, in your post you mentioned that:

FrankDeRosa:

/includes/modules/pages/account_edit/header.php
/includes/templates/CUSTOM/templates/tpl_account_edit_default.php

Frank

What exactly needs to be changed in the files mentioned? Ie. what lines.

Thanks

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

I have been banging my sore head against the mr. ms. limited options for over 2 weeks now. Read all of your posts....totally agree that all options should be provided.

However....the "fix" that has been suggested which is to just go to your admin control panel, configuration, customer details, and turn email salutation to FALSE...did NOT work.

But guess what? I turned it to TRUE.....and Mr. and Ms. DISAPPEARED from my form!!!!!!

The darn thing is BACKWARDS....and has cost 2 weeks of near complete breakdown!! :frusty::bangin:

This is a definate BUG in the system

Hope this helps some of you other poor guys and gals out there fighting this oh so simple to fix bug.

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

This is not a bug, it's a design limitation. Just 'cos it doesn't do everything you want, doesn't mean it's wrong. The difference between a bug and a design limitation is important as it determines how the dev team should and will respond.

As has also been said earlier, this limitation will be removed in version 2. In the meantime, this is an open source project so you're welcome to hack the existing code to achieve whatever result you want, and there are posts earlier in the thread showing how it might be done.

Thanks for getting back to me but by saying "it's a design limitation. Just 'cos it doesn't do everything you want..." ignores the fact that the forum is loaded with directions given by dev team members telling us to simply turn this feature to false.

I HAVE turned it to False...and what the totally zenned people say it WILL/SHOULD do does NOT happen. Above you will see my post that says I finally accomplished getting rid of the Mr. Ms. radio buttons on the form by turning the feature to TRUE......However, when I went back to the form as a new customer (the Mr/Ms was Gone), but the system would not let me proceed with sign up. It said "Please choose a salutation". Even though there wasn't a salutation there.

What would suggest I do at this point?....since turning this feature off doesn't work?

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

Ah, I think I see what you're saying. The "bug" would be that setting the salutation to "true" turns it off.

Sorry, but I've just tested it on three different sites and in each case the salutation switch worked exactly as it should - "true" means on and "false" turns it off, and creating an account with it off worked fine.

I was looking in the account creation and account info areas. If you're seeing this somewhere else, could you tell us where. Also, information about the Zen Cart version, your template, the mods you're using and a link to your site would be helpful.

Finally, does this still happen if you switch back to the classic template?
