Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Hey there! I'm installing this, but when I run the SQL file, it just says "failed:", with no explanation. Here's the SQL I'm using:

CREATE TABLE `tax_rates_local` (
`local_tax_id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment COMMENT 'tax id',
`zone_id` int(11) default NULL COMMENT 'zen cart zone to apply tax',
`local_fieldmatch` varchar(100) default NULL COMMENT 'name of field from delivery table to match',
`local_datamatch` varchar(100) default NULL COMMENT 'Data to match delievery field',
`local_tax_rate` decimal(7,4) default '0.0000' COMMENT 'local tax rate',
`local_tax_label` varchar(100) default NULL COMMENT 'Label for checkout',
`local_tax_shipping` varchar(5) default 'false' COMMENT 'Apply this tax to shipping',
  PRIMARY KEY (`local_tax_id`)
)

Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong??

Not a very helpful error message. Do you have direct access to the sql db perhaps you can create the table there without going through the zencart sql tool?

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Hi LadyHLG,

I'm a completely new Zenner and have only just begun to delve into the world of Zen. Since I live in New York, I'm interested in your module, but I have not done any installation of third party modules yet. I read your ReadMe file, which says to copy the files from Full Version---Catalog into the cart. This is probably a really stupid question (and please forgive my ignorance): to which folder(s) do I copy the files into?

Open the folder called "fullversion". You should see another folder called "catalog" and a file named "LocalSalesTaxv1.1.sql".
Open the catalog folder and copy everything in that folder over to the root directory of your zencart.
Log into your cart admin and go to Tools->Install SQL Patches
Click the Browse button on the the Install SQL Patches Page and select the "LocalSalesTaxv1.1.sql" and then click the UPLOAD button.
From there just follow the rest of the instructions in the README.txt file on how to set up and use the module.

You can ignore everything in the folder called "upgrade". Those files are only for people who have already installed the previous version of the mod.

Good Luck,
LadyHLG

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Okay...I did all that, and when I click on Local Sales Taxes, I get the following:

HEADING_TITLE 1146 Table 'zencart.zen_tax_rates_local' doesn't exist
in:
[select count(*) as total FROM zen_tax_rates_local st LEFT JOIN zen_zones z ON st.zone_id = z.zone_id]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.

                                        TABLE_HEADING_LOCAL_SALES_TAX_ZONE TABLE_HEADING_LOCAL_SALES_TAX_FIELD TABLE_HEADING_LOCAL_SALES_TAX_DATA TABLE_HEADING_LOCAL_SALES_TAX_RATE TABLE_HEADING_LOCAL_SALES_TAX_LABEL TABLE_HEADING_LOCAL_SALES_TAX_SHIPPING TABLE_HEADING_ACTION

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Did you get any error messages when you ran the sql query?
What version of zen cart do you have?

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I didn't get any messages at all when I ran the sql query. I'm running zencart 1.3.7 on a local server. Not sure if it has any bearing on anything, but I'm on a Mac.

I have my tax rates set up for Zone: New York (haven't entered a percentage).

Is there something else I need to configure? Is it possible I copied the files over wrong?

Shall I delete all the files I copied and start fresh? Would that harm anything?

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Can you go into your mysql database and check to see if the new table is actually there? If it isn't then try creating it directly through whatever mysql user interface you have instead of through Zen Cart.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

My knowledge goes as far as HTML. Mysql is way above my head. Can you tell me exactly what the table would be called?

If it's not there, I have no idea how I would create it. Would this be difficult to do?

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

It would be called zen_tax_rates_local (depending on the table prefix you are using for the cart).
How to create it would depend on the interface you use, I'm not familiar with any of the programs available for Mac.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

The table does not appear to be there. If any Mac users happen to read this and can help me out, I would be most appreciative.

Many thanks.

I do all my web-type programming from a Mac. But I use phpMyAdmin for database administration. I didn't know there was something like that in zen cart.

I'll have to try it...

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

mring,
Instead of uploading the sql file using the browse and upload buttons in Zen Cart, you could try opening the sql file, copying the sql query, and pasting it directly into the sql query box in the Install SQL Patches Tool.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I wonder if it could be a line ending problem. Last I checked, Macs use CR (unless it's from a pure unix-type program), windows PCs use CRLF, and unix uses LF. Not sure about database input, but I know from recent experience that alien line endings can badly derail a perl script. Maybe copying and pasting would get around that.

mring, what kind of web hosting server are you using? Linux, Mac, Windows?

Really it's probably a very different problem than that. But I'm curious anyway.

I still haven't tried sql thru zen cart...

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Have set up a local server on my mac to try to learn the cart. I think when I go live, I'll use a fresh version of zen cart and try to reinstall the tax mod then. Hopefully, I'll have more luck. In the meantime, feeling overwhelmed just learning the ins and outs of the cart itself.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Hi, Great module. It works great. I am in Los Angeles and I have been using the module for a over a month and it is great.

My question is where is the tax amount for the local tax stored? The reason I am asking is because I want to be able to export the tax data out for sales tax reporting and I can't seem to find it. I looked in the order table and I can see the order_tax but it seems to be just the state (base) tax and the local tax is not included. When I go through the admin interface to customers then to orders I can see the local tax in the order details but I am not sure which database table it is taking it from.

I sure I will find it eventually but if you could help out it would save me some time. Thanks!

Thanks
Supersnow

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I'm afraid the actual tax amount from each sale is not stored anywhere at this time, it is a completely calculate number generated on the fly when the order is created or pulled up. I know this is a pain, as a reporting system of some type is needed, but as this is my first module that went beyond what I could tackle.
Its something I have been trying to plan out, but have not had the time to complete as yet.

I wish I had a better answer for you but, for now at least, there just isn't anything.

Thank you for your reply, at least now I know that I am not going mad. Do you think you will be able to add it to the orders table and store it like the order_tax in the not too distant future? This would be fantastic.

thanks again for a great Mod!!!

Thanks

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I'm afraid its not as simple as putting it into a single field. The mod is specifically designed to allow for multiple taxes, so I am not sure if a single local tax total is sufficient for reporting purposes where more than one local tax is applied (ie - a city tax and a district tax).

However, I did some looking around and it looks like the local tax totals are stored in the orders_total table! Have a look there and see if you can get what you need.

The order_total table is a messy one huh!

Anyway let me know if you a solution of bringing it through to the orders table as it would make it so much easier to export the orders if I can get it from one table.

If not possible just let me know. Thanks again for your replies.

Thanks
