Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

supersnow and anyone else interested,
I have been working on a very simple sales tax total report, it will be a completely separate mod from the local sales tax mod but will work to pull those sales tax totals as well as any zone tax totals you might have.
I will post it here for anyone to test before posting to the downloads.
The mod itself is very simplistic, it basically totals all the different sales taxes from the orders_total table based on a given date range.

I will post again here when the mod is available for testing, which should hopefully be soon.

Sounds great look forward to the mod - your are the best!!! :clap:

Will the sales tax report be able to to be printed or exported? Only ask as it would be a dream come true to make sales tax report process for to the state that much easier.

Thanks

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

As I said the report is very simplistic. A small 2-column table with the tax name and the total tax. The size of the table will depend on how many different taxes you have set up and how many sales you had for those taxes. If I have the time I will see if I can make a print version, but you many not even need it.
Have a good weekend.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Ok guys,
Here is the simple sales tax summary report mod. As I said previously, this is very simplistic it only gives you totals, but it is at least a place to start.
Please have a look and let me know what you think, I will post it to the downloads after its been tested a while.
The mod is written for Zen 1.3.7 - I have no idea if it will work with other versions, but since it does not overwrite any files it can be easily tested. Just copy the files over to the root of your zen cart maintaining the file structure provided.
This mod will work with or without the Local Sales Tax Mod so it will give you totals for zone and local taxes.

Thats fantastic. I just wish I had the time and patience to learn how to write modules for the admin.

It seems to work great for the total.

Required on my end would be a listing of all orders that charged tax.

How much info about the orders would you need?

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I have a question about this Mod
Open the folder called "fullversion". You should see another folder called "catalog" and a file named "LocalSalesTaxv1.1.sql".
Open the catalog folder and copy everything in that folder over to the root directory of your zencart.

I have did all of this and had to go to my data base to install "LocalSalesTaxv1.1.sql" file because you are not able to do it from zen cart Admin. My data table is there, but when you go to

Locations / Taxes
* Countries
* Zones
* Zones Definitions
* Tax Classes
* Tax Rates

there is no Local Sales Taxes to click on to. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Something is not right with the files you copied over, the data table would not effect the menu options.
A few questions -
What version of zen are you using?
Did you copy over all the files in the catalog folder, but NOT the catalog folder itself (you don't want the catalog folder just what is in it)?
Did you refresh your browser after you copied the files?

The way zen cart is set up, once you copy over the files correctly it should automatically see the new menu option so it has to be a file issue.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Sorry about that. The problem was with me not the Mod. I forgot to change the Admin file to my custom file. I change the Admin folder in my root dir for security reason.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

What does this mean when setting up by zip code.
Search Data
What data are we searching for?

I might not know what I'm doing. Where do I get this information from, and how do I set it up for each state.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Where to get the data depends on the state you are setting up sales taxes for. There are different places to get this information, but you should probably start with the taxing authority for whichever particular state you need to set up taxes for.
Different states offer different things to help get you started. You could also check here in the forums, other zen cart users from your particular state might be able to offer some help.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

One more question if you don't mind. You seem to know a lot about this. I know I have to collect taxes for NC where I live. I don't know a lot about it except that, but do I have to collect them for all state that have to pay taxes. Call me stupid. :shocking:

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

You need to contact the taxing authority for NC. They will be able to tell you what sales taxes you need to collect.
Every state does something a little different. Some collect by county some have city taxes. I would start with the Dept of Revenue of NC. They will be your best source of info.
Hope that helps.

LadyHLG:

LadyHLG

Sadly, I need County info, so I have created a table to map to for this (if only zencart would have the option to ask for county so that taxes could be more easily managed this way).

So to do taxes for Nevada (for the tax period) I need a total of all non-taxable orders, total of taxable orders, and order/tax totals for city/county.

Its a lot of fun to do by hand right now. :)

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Hi LadyHLG,
I have written a mod based on COD Module, but cannot work out how to make sure the orders_total table gets populated. I found your mod and checked it to see if it would give me any leads.

I am hunting in the process function of ot_local_sales_taxes. The $order->info['total'] is populated ok. When I view the payment confirmation page, the data all looks correct and the added fee is displaying correctly.

When the email confirmation arrives, and in the orders history, the extra fee is not there - because the entry has not been made in the orders_total table.

I wondered from your experience if you knew what might be the issue, or where I should be looking.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Fixed it. The process function is called every time the module is referenced on a page - I had code that restricted the operation to the confirmation page only! :oops:

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Thanks so much for the mod.. :-) I am having a problem though :-(

The extra tax is not showing up in checkout. Here are my settings:

Regular Zone is set up to Colorado at 4.10

Local tax is city >> denver >> 3.72

my store >> basis of tax is set to shipping address

When I run through I only get the colorado tax and not the additional 3.72 with the denver address.

It appears correctly in the admin and in the database. It just doesnt seem to work with the checkout :-( Any ideas??

Zen 1.37

Thanks!
