MultiSite Module Support Thread

I have made an attempt to install the MultiSite mod on my site https://www.frnt.org/zencart - also accessible from https://www.zencart.frnt.org (as subdomain), template name "custom"

I am running ZC 1.3.7.1 - quite smoothly.

Domain name is https://www.frnt.org or frnt.org

Created a copy of the zencart dir in https://www.pracstore.frnt.org with template name "pracstore"

Installation went ok until uploading of the modified includes/configure.php file. When trying to access the site I get this error msg:

"The domain frnt.org does not exist"

I know this has been discussed b4 in this forum but I am unable to find a satisfactory answer to this problem.

Here is the top part of my original includes/configure.php file:

// Define the webserver and path parameters
// HTTP_SERVER is your Main webserver: eg, http://www.yourdomain.com
// HTTPS_SERVER is your Secure webserver: eg, https://www.yourdomain.com
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://frnt.org');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://frnt.org');

// Use secure webserver for checkout procedure?
define('ENABLE_SSL', 'false');

// NOTE: be sure to leave the trailing '/' at the end of these lines if you make changes!
// * DIR_WS_* = Webserver directories (virtual/URL)
// these paths are relative to top of your webspace ... (ie: under the public_html or httpdocs folder)
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/zencart/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/zencart/');

The modified file for the "zencart" shop looks like this:

include_once('includes/config_sites/sites_switch.php');

// Define the webserver and path parameters
// HTTP_SERVER is your Main webserver: eg, http://www.yourdomain.com
// HTTPS_SERVER is your Secure webserver: eg, https://www.yourdomain.com
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://frnt.org');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://frnt.org');

// Use secure webserver for checkout procedure?
define('ENABLE_SSL', 'false');

// NOTE: be sure to leave the trailing '/' at the end of these lines if you make changes!
// * DIR_WS_* = Webserver directories (virtual/URL)
// these paths are relative to top of your webspace ... (ie: under the public_html or httpdocs folder)
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/zencart/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/zencart/');

and the corresponding file for "pracstore" is similar

Should I replace

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://frnt.org');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://frnt.org');

with this

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://zencart.frnt.org');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://zencart.frnt.org');

and this for the "sub" store

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://pracstore.frnt.org');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://pracstore.frnt.org');

Thanks in advance

Frank

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Frank

you have to make a file called "YOUR_DOMAIN.COM_config.pgp" which goes into includes/config_sites/. Theres an example of what you need to within the installation files in the same folder.

Ken

I dont care what it says next to my name. I've been Zenned!

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Hi Ken,

thanks for your reply (thought nobody would look at this thread any longer ..)

Yes, I have done exactly as per instructions, called the file

www.pracstore.frnt.org_config.php

containing

<?php define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/'); define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/'); $template_dir = "pracstore"; define('SITE_NAME','www.pracstore.frnt.org'); ?>

for the "sub-store"

The "main-store" (which also contains the admin) is set up in the same way:

file name: www.zencart.frnt.org_config.php

containing

<?php define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/'); define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/'); $template_dir = "custom"; define('SITE_NAME','www.zencart.frnt.org'); ?>

But I am still getting a blank page "The domain frnt.org does not exist"

Both https://www.zencart.frnt.org and https://www.pracstore.frnt.org are subdomains to host https://www.frnt.org

So, I am still banging my head ... :frusty:

May have to start from scratch

Cheers / Frank

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Hey Frank,

What ever domain it says does not exists is the file that you need to create.

if it says frnt.org then create "frnt.org_config.php"

you may also need to create "www.frnt.org_config.php"

I dont care what it says next to my name. I've been Zenned!

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

G'day Ken

and thanks for your last advice.

gave it another try last night and worked out that the www's created the grief. So, made another file without the www's (otherwise identical) and BINGO :clap:

Should be live as MultiSite in a few days - time permitting.

Thanks again

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Hello, I have installed this mod as per the instructions on a clean Zen Cart 1.3.8a instalation. When I browse to my primary domain the page loads, but only the header and the Categories box is displayed. How do I get the rest of my page and the site link sidebox to show?

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Forgive me if this has been asked previously in this thread but at 51 pages, it got a bit much to read every post.

I have set up the multisite module now and as far as the shopping cart session, it works great. My query is is it possible to pass a logged in state to a second domain? If you want to take a look, the domains are www.thediscountsofashop.co.uk and www.thediscountdiningshop.co.uk.

These sites are far from finished so please forgive bugs etc.

If you login to any one of the sites (please feel free to sign up with dummy data) and add things to your cart and then navigate to the other site, you will have to login again but your cart comes with you. Is there a way to maintain the logged in state across sites? There are two significant reasons this is needed:

  1. usability for the customer
  2. if you add items to your cart on one site, navigate to a second site and then add further items and then navigate back, the first site will still have you logged in but you will need to logout and back in again to see an updated shopping cart.
    Obviously this is unacceptable from a user standpoint so I either need to maintain the logged in state and refreshed cart site to site or if this is not possible, force a log out when the user navigates away from the site.

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

So, how many domains/stores can one successfully point around with this thing? I've got a half-dozen niche market things that are basically the same group of products (but everyone's special, dontchaknow...).

Gave it a quickie run through in the past coupla hours on a fresh zencart, and I've got one up, but I'm not seeing any of the categories I added - time to start reading through stuff...

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

So, let me get this straight... I tell my tame raci... er... web guy that I need a dedicated IP for the "encompassing" site, and I point the DNS from the other domains at it?

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Anyone else notice some significantly reduced performance after confirming your order (between order confirmation and success)?

I actually have my original zen cart store running, and the multisite store so I can see a very obvious difference. Multisite is currently hosting 18 different stores. I don't know if it has slow down as more stores were added or not, but currently it takes about 17 seconds to go from confirmation to success. The Original store is only about 4 seconds.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Welp, I've switched to a dedicated IP, and I'm waiting for things to shake out back to normal - access stuff at the moment.

I do large format printing, and this sites (you know what - sometimes incorrect grammar works!) is going to be targeted at folks from artists to photographers to researchers...

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

I have a company that offers services for residential and business. What I want is when you visit site https://www.mysite.com, a flash animation will come up introducing my site. The when it ends, it will offer two options business or residential. If you click on business it goes to https://www.mysite.com/business where the business zen shopping cart is. If you click on residential it goes to https://www.mysite.com/residential where the business zen shopping cart is. The goal is to provide different products and pricing for residential and business customers. I do not want them to have mixed categories. So my understanding was I could just install zen cart into separate directories. Instead its a little more complicated than that.

So, back to the multiple store add-on that Gerome offers. Has anyone done this, this way. His add-on, as far as I understand, is for having multiple domains like https://www.abc.com and https://www.xyz.com directed to the same merchant/gateway account with possibly one SSL Certificate. Not having one domain with two shopping carts with one gateway.

Any suggestion would help.

Thanks.

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

PAE2008:

Ha! I might be on to something... To properly update these files, would I just add cat_filter after ExecuteRandomMulti(?

For example (includes/modules/sideboxes/specials.php):

$random_specials_sidebox_product = $db->ExecuteRandomMulti(cat_filter($random_specials_sidebox_product_query), MAX_RANDOM_SELECT_SPECIALS);

>
> If someone could confirm this, it would be very helpful. Sorry for all of the messages... I did not mean to spam the thread if I did so. I could not find any reference anywhere else in here and my edit time kept expiring as I continued to edit files.
>
> PAE2008

I have applied the correction suggested by PAE2008. It works perfectly and avoid the problem intially found: if the sidebox, i.e. whats_new, is set, and some related content (items) is present, the displaying of the page will be blocked at the sidebox.
Thanks PAE2008 !!!

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

I have just discovered that the multisite module seems to function thorough a frame. I have my site all set up but I cannot get customers if the frame is messing up my SEO. can you guys please enlighten me as to why the frame is necessary, or if there is a way to keep make the mod work with out placing my sites into frames. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially from some of you more experience users. What do you think of your search engine rankings on your multisite store? can each sub site be adequately ranked as its own business rather than as a sub part of the main site directory? Please any help would be great. -Thank you

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

jCorey, I've got an idea...

Get two more domains beyond your original...

Name one of them ABCResidential, and the other ABCCommercial...

You'll run three domains on the multisite, but the only one that'll matter is ABC as to how it ties the other two together, and deals with the money processing.

Idea?

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Dear all,
I have installed a zen cart on a domain

https://www.BuyQuickTools.com

I have installed the mutisite module and now i want to add three more fronts

https://www.BuyAoyue.com
https://www.BuyHakko.com
https://www.SolderShack.com

From where i can add three more stores in my already installed zen cart with multisite module installed.

Also how will i point my these 3 domains to this module. Do i need to provide DNS or what?

Somebody kindly explain the entire process in simple steps.
Thanks

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Hi Gerome,

Thanks for a great mod. I don't know if this question's been asked before, the forum is quite long. Is there a way to do a multisite based on subdirectories? For example: mysite.com/site1 and mysite.com/site2? The closest thing I probably got to was on p.10

Thanks,
Pete
