Define Pages / EZ Pages

Use the admin > tools > developers tool kit > and search for "FILENAME_PAGE_5"
to find where this is.

Re: Define Pages / EZ Pages

Thanks Kobra, followed your instructions and it worked fine first time (thats unusual for me :-))
Can anything be added to make this Page_5 show up in admin>config>define page status
so I can make up a few and just have them turned off until customer needs them.

Thanks

When page is loaded in the editor - check for any warnings about file no being writeable....or just insure that the files at the location that is being loaded for editing have permissions set to "777"

Re: Define Pages / EZ Pages

HI, Thanks Kobra, no errors come up in define page editor, and also they are all set at 777. I tried editing the pages both ways (admin section and editing mpages and uploading, but neither will work at the moment.

In 'More information' it is these four 'added' pages that will not update

For illustration use the page_2 as a guide
Try starting over and in these areas edit or create what is required changing only the reference to page_2 to page_5...get it to work in that default generic form before you begin changing things like "Zimbabwe Orphans Endeavor'"
Just the straight page_5 references to start.

Create/clone these as page_5
/includes/modules/pages/page_2/header_php.php
/includes/languages/english/page_2.php
/includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_page_2_default.php

Add/edit these to include page_5
/includes/modules/sideboxes/more_information.php
/includes/languages/english.php
/includes/filenames.php

Create define_page_5.php in both of these folders
/includes/languages/html_includes
/includes/languages/html_includes/your_template

This should net you a generic page_5 in the "More Information" sidebox
You can then begin using this in your overrides areas

Once this works you can move on to custom titles etc - one at a time so you can track back if it breaks

Hello,
Could you help please?
I did all you said above, to create a page 5, and even found 2 more that I thought needed doing:
zen cart/admin/includes/langauages/english.php &
zen cart/admin/included/languages/english/define_pages_editor.php
I have the page in my sidebox & listed on the define pages editor in Admin, but it doesn't apear in the sitempa & when I click on the link in the sidebox only the main page shows, as though a selection hasn't been made!
Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?
I have checked every page at least 3 times & did find 2 omissions that are nw corrected, but it seems it's not being called & I have no idea where that might be from because I don't programme - sorry.
Could you help please?
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Gay

Re: Define Pages / EZ Pages

Hi,

I had the same problem mentioned by others--followed the instructions but my new page has just the heading on it, but no text.

I used the Developers Toolkit to search for "page 2" and "page 6" and compare the results side-by-side. They were identical, so it wasn't anything I missed in the files.

The problem is linked to the fact that my new page 6 doesn't show up in configuration/define page status.

Since I copied tpl_page_2_default.php to tpl_page_6_default.php, it has this in it:

<?php if (DEFINE_PAGE_6_STATUS >= 1 and DEFINE_PAGE_6_STATUS <= 2) { ?>
<div id="pageSixMainContent" class="content">
<?php
/**
 * load the html_define for the page_6 default
 */
  require($define_page);
?>
</div>
<?php } ?>

So what's happening is the if statement is checking whether the define page status has this page set to show. Since my page doesn't show up in define page status for whatever reason, this if statement is evaluating to false and my text isn't showing.

I recommend instead using the text in the about me contribution which does not check if the define page status is set to show. Just replace the lines above with these:

<div id="pageSixMainContent" class="content">
<?php
/**
 * require the html_define for page 6
 */
  require($define_page);
?>
</div>

That will at least get your page to show correctly.

Now why my new page doesn't show in define page status is the question. I ran the SQL mentioned in a previous post and it still didn't show. However I can't look at the table right now because my host is having problems with myphpAdmin.

Re: Define Pages / EZ Pages

Aha! Figured out why my new page doesn't show under Define Page Status. I ran this sql that I picked up from another post:

INSERT INTO `configuration` ( `configuration_title`, `configuration_key`, `configuration_value`, `configuration_description`, `configuration_group_id`, `sort_order`, `last_modified`, `date_added`, `use_function`, `set_function`)
VALUES ('Define Page Name', 'DEFINE_PAGE_NAME_STATUS', '1', 'Enable the Defined Page_Name Link/Text?<br />0= Link ON, Define Text OFF<br />1= Link ON, Define Text ON<br />2= Link OFF, Define Text ON<br />3= Link OFF, Define Text OFF', 25, 100, NOW(), NOW(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array(''0'', ''1'', ''2'', ''3''),');

However in my setup, the table name is zen_configuration, not configuration. When I changed the name to zen_configuration, the row was added, my page shows in Define Page Status, and my page context shows when I copy tpl_page_2_default.php and edit it to be page_6.

Correct sql (for 1.3.8 at least):

INSERT INTO `zen_configuration` ( `configuration_title`, `configuration_key`, `configuration_value`, `configuration_description`, `configuration_group_id`, `sort_order`, `last_modified`, `date_added`, `use_function`, `set_function`)
VALUES ('Define Page Name', 'DEFINE_PAGE_NAME_STATUS', '1', 'Enable the Defined Page_Name Link/Text?<br />0= Link ON, Define Text OFF<br />1= Link ON, Define Text ON<br />2= Link OFF, Define Text ON<br />3= Link OFF, Define Text OFF', 25, 100, NOW(), NOW(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array(''0'', ''1'', ''2'', ''3''),');

So just change "page name" to your new page name in the sql above (3 places), matching the case, and you should be all set to go.

Re: Define Pages / EZ Pages

Ignore my previous post.

It's true, the actual file is called zen_configuration. However if you run the SQL from within zen cart admin, it appends zen to the front and the original sql works fine.

I must have run the sql from within cpanel in which case I did need to rename it to zen_configuration for it to work.

Re: Define Pages / EZ Pages

Hi Kobra

You,ve been geat in helping me in the past and as i'm using your template i thought i should ask you this question also! Hope you don't mind.

I am using ezpages with great eaze, they're actually quite simple to operate if you just think about what you want to do with them in the first place, problem is: The table of contents box is quite wide and i was wondering how i can go about editing the size of it?

My website is still a work in progress, but if you can spare a moment to have a look at it and see what critism (good & Bad) you could offer i would really appreciate it.

My web is www.darbleyfish.com

I look forward to hearing from you

rooisnor:

Why do external links within an EzPage not working? It'll connect to https://www.myzencard.com/www.externallink.net - the link is actually to https://www.externallink.net

I designed a html page with different links to other sites but the links fail!

...any ideas?

Re: Define Pages / EZ Pages

I have used a define pages generator with great results. Much easier than creating them manually. All it takes is to choose a name for them, type your template name, and choose where to create the files on your computer. FTP them to your site, and you are all done except editing the page and linking to it. No overwrites, and all in the correct file structure.

I use both ez pages and defines. I hated the defines until I found this generator: http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=804
in the addon/downloads section.

Just thought I would add to the conversation...

PS..I use this define pages generator on my 1.3.8 site.

Good Luck.

Hi Kobra and All....

I tried your recommendation above and it worked like a charm. I have a quick question though... I am a little concerned about what will happen if I need to upgrade my ZenCart in the future. Will all these changes disappear since most of them are not in my custom template (except for the last change)? Will they get overwritten with the new files that will come with the new version?

I look forward to hearing from you guys... BTW... You guys do an amazing job helping out others here!!!

Re: Define Pages / EZ Pages

When you create a new page, one that is not in the core code, you do not have to worry about it getting overwritten :).

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: Define Pages / EZ Pages

Hi Kim,

I agree that is the case with some of the files but what about files like these....

/includes/modules/sideboxes/more_information.php
/includes/languages/english.php
/includes/filenames.php

Will they get updated/overwritten? I have yet to do an upgrade so I'm not too sure if they get updated or not.

Thanks.
