Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

epsonprintersrock:

Thats true of us in the UK. On our site we show the price including and excluding VAT, but on the google feed we HAVE to show the price including VAT.

Changing it in admin would just cause more hassle than its worth. I'd be happier to submit the feed manually and make all the changes myself.

I was just hoping that someone knew a way that the automatic feed would add on the VAT for me!

It causes errors for our products that are on special offer too. eg. product #544 costs £200, special offer £100 (+VAT = 117.50) Google feed would show this product to cost £200, even though on offer it costs £117.50 including VAT. The feed just reads the products price column, and not the specials price or the taxable goods columns.

The feed is taken automatically from YOUR site from the information that is within YOUR site. So, the VAT would need to be added prior to the automatic feed. VAT is NOT added by Google after you create the feed. So, it's best to have the VAT installed through admin.

Adding it manually afterward may not work because you will not be able to set your cron tabs and Google may kick it back.

Hope that helps.

Well, gosh....

Been a couple days and only one item is showing up within Google Products. It is the most recently added item to inventory just prior to making the above changes.

Except for the cron tab.. Will have to read up on that

Well now the single item that was showing has been removed.

Same thing happened a couple months ago. One item showed for about a day and then.... Poof... ! Gone !

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Zen Cart v 1.3.7.1
Base Feed v 1.7.4

I am still getting some characters (such as single quotes) to encode incorrectly, even after trying to cleanse the data in the backend.
I assume this was a previous bug that was already fixed. Can someone point me in the right direction of where this encoding is being done?

This causes Google to detect invalid characters, so it won't upload the data.

Thanks.

Hi, don't get discouraged because every time you upload (and if I am correct you uploaded a couple of times) Google with take the current feed. Again, you need to be patient because several or thousands of feeds are submitted daily. If you did NOT get an email from Google stating there was a problem and IF you merchant account shows searchable soon...then you are on the right path.

Ah...just for the record, it did not go smoothly for me..it took a couple of emails stating what I was doing wrong. Then it was fixed and then there was a problem and finally.....it worked...so work with it.

Hope that helps...

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I installed this great MOD before Christmas, and it works well. Also set up a Cron Job so that the feed is uploaded to Google base automatically.

This is my problem. Our website shows the prices in two currencies GBP Pounds £ and USD Dollars $. Our default is pounds, buty we also show the $ equivalent on every page. The Google Base Feeder creates a product feed with the prices in £, and this is uploaded auytomatically to Google base to a data feed Targeting the United Kingdom. What I want to do is create another feed with all the prices marked in USD, and upload it to another Google base data feed that has the target country set to the United States. If this could be created automatically and updated to Google Base like the GBP version, then great, but if not, does anyone know how to do this manually?

Thanks for your time.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I have installed the base feeder. I understand the first step is the configuration. Is there any documentation on how to do that? I'm not a developer. Can I do this myself or do I need to program stuff?

After I do the configuration then is there anything else I need to do? Is the Cron just for automatic submission?

Thank you

Could not edit prev post:

When I try to create a product the browser attempts to go to:

http://www.mywebsite.com/shopping/googlefroogle.php?feed=fy_un_tp

But I get a 404 error. What is the deal, did the guy who installed it not do something right?

You need to make sure all of the files are uploaded and the feed directory is chmod to 777.

Please read through all the instructions. A lot of people skip through the basic instructions and find out later it was something they missed.

Hope that helps.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Where are the instructions? I want to read them so I don't have to ask stupid questions.

Also the feeder works in firefox, but in internet explorer I get the 404, is that becasue of the 777 chmod?

When I use firefox I got this:

Google Base Feeder v1.7.4 started 2010/02/03 22:07:47
Feed file - /usr/home/mywebsite/www/htdocs/shopping/feed/google_base_products.xml
Processing: Feed - Yes, Upload - No
Google Base File Complete In 0.191784 Seconds 0 Records

For included categories I only selected 1 category: fishing, which has subcategories. As you can see I got 0 records. Do I need to select the subcategories? If so how would I do that: fishing > baitcast reels, fishing > rods, etc?

Turn on Debug under Conf:::set to True.

Well, it looks like you did Create...now scroll down to Upload and let me know the results.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

My google base feed works great!

I have one issue - I have a mix of conditions (New, Refurbished, Used, etc) - with the auto uploader, you can only set the condition one way by default.

So, all of my items get posted on google as 'New', even though some are not.

I do not want customers to think I am pulling a fast one.

Is there a way to have each item's respective condition properly get uploaded?

I realize I can (and have done) manually adjust/upload the xml feed document, but it takes a lot time to go thru and edit.

Any suggestions, please?

Hi, I wish I could help you out but I am not the original author of this addon. I am just lending a helping hand from the experiences I have had with Google Feeder.

I, too, would like to have a choice per item but it does seem to be an option. In an earlier post I had made a similar request but it was never respond to.

Hope that helps.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I turned debug to true.

I uploaded the file and the result was that "no items were inserted", kinda what I thought when the feeder showed 0 results. I get 0 results even if I leave inclusion / exclusion blank?

Also, when I go to view the results of the feed before uploading it takes me to a page that says I need to subscribe to a feed. So I do and then I can't view the feed, it just takes me back to my website.

  1. Is your feed folder set to 777
  2. Is googlefroogle.php installed in your root directory
  3. The instructions are html file called documentation.html.
  4. Did you correctly install your Google Merchant name & pw in the Google config in admin.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

  1. I've checked installation and verified that the "feed" directory has the permissions of 777, as does all of it's contents.
    2)"googlefroogle.php" exists
  2. Found the instructions thanks
  3. The username and pass are correct

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I'm not sure why IE is not working. It doesn't really say which file is not found, but it works in firefox. (i tried clearing my cache with no luck.) The feed does run in firefox, but i get 0 results?

Any thoughts?

Thanks Bridgett:smile:

Ok..so all is good in the configuration.....Create...no problems...Upload no problems...am I correct in saying this?

Now, if there is a problem within the first 24 hours...Google will happily sent you an email.

Did you check your Google Merchant account to see if it says searchable soon?

Try not to upload several times because it has to start the process all over again. Just try and upload every four hours or so.

Oh, you can use pagewash.com to clear for IE...but not to ruin your day but it does work in IE for me :D

Let me know your results.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I think it works! After I went to pagewash.com it worked:hug: Well sort of, it works for all of the products. If I try to include categories then it doesn't work anymore:no:

Is there a trick to including categories? I am trying to include the sub categories under fishing. So my category tree looks like this:
hobbies/fishing/baitcast-reels
hobbies/fishing/low-profile-reels
hobbies/fishing/spinning-reels

I tried: hobbies, fishing, baitcast-reels, and hobbies/fishing/baitcast-reels. none of those seem to return any products.

...
...
id: 60, price: 189, description length: 2006 - including - success
id: 78, price: 111, description length: 1130 - including - success
Google Base File Complete In 1.198359 Seconds 64 Records

The feeder doesn't seem to return very many fields: ID, price, and desc. To add more do you have to change the code or do it manually?

More importantly, a problem that I have is this: I use the product description section for bullet points. Then I use the review to describe my product. How can I add the user review to the feed(does that make sense)?

First of all, and it's your choice...you don't need to include Categories if you are using ALL categories. You can leave it blank. I left that blank.

If you are using quotations or anything like that...then you need to make some changes to google_base.php because Google will kick it back. Look at #1902 of this thread. And back-up before you do any changes.

Also, just a suggestion....change the name of your .xml file. It's custom for your site only.

The Google Feeder is for products listed in your store not for reviews.

Hope that helps.
