Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

ZeeRocK:

Hello all,

I've been using this awesome mod for the last 5/6 months and never had any problem not even on the initial installation. I have set up a cron job and that works fine too. My only concern is I always upload 159 products no more and my store has atleast 179 at the moment. First I didn't notice this but just last night I found this out.

I have also followed numinix instructions on how to get around your server time out, but I never had any problems being timed out but I still added a few line in php.ini.

So any recommendations as what I should do do get my all products get uploaded ?

Cheers!

Actually, that's not bad. There are various reasons that a product will not be included in the feed upload. I have about 550 products on my site and only 501 will upload because one of my catagories has all very large items that are labeled as 'call for price' due to shipping concerns. This causes the price to flag as zero(0.00) in the feed and disqualifies the product. If you have any instances of that, there ya go! There are several other reasons, check backwards a few messages, I recently posted a couple links to Googles specifications, maybe those will help.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

nehoward, thank you for your continuing support.

Google does not reject the feed as provided by froogle feeder; the products are accepted fine when uploaded.

The issue is getting the products into the xml file in the first place, and only 3 out of 1000 are being generated into the feed file.

All of the products have attributes, but none of the products are $0. They all start with a base price, and the attributes are optional which add additional cost on a case by case basis. If it would help, I can pm you a link to the site

Thank you for your reply. You may be right, but don't you find it strange that always 159 items uploaded. I have uploaded atleast 70/80 times and always this number. I have also checked the max products upload in my admin which is unlimited. I know I'm probably one of the lucky ones as my upload ratios is higher than alot of people.

The funny thing is except for missing GTIN they don't give any other error but they still approve my file and everything shows up. I think I should be thankful that it still uploads most of my products.

Well I'm certainly not an expert:huh: but if you want to send me a screen shot of your base feeder setup(blocking your google login id and pw) I could compare it to mine and see if there are any outstanding differences. Or, if you could tell me how to pull a screen shot of mine(never done it before) I could send mine to you for comparison. That's probably a good place to start, I cant help but think it's a setup issue somewhere.

Yeah, I just checked mine and it's 501 of 549. I have several big items(700 lb wheeled fire extinguishers with special shipping requirements) that I have customers call me for price quotes on that dont get included in the feed.

One of these days, when I have nothing better to do but be curious(yeah, right) I'll dig into the code and see what makes it tick. Unfortunatly, php is not my language forte, I'm more familiar with OS9 and UNIX source but the structure is basically the same. Maybe someday.....

I'm sure you'll do allright. I forgot to mention that I deal in consumer electronics so I don't have any item which call for price, so I'm sure thats not the issue for me. I'm not an expert myself but I do find my way around and if I do I will post here.

Cheers!

This is handled through your Google Merchant Center account not your regular Google account.

Go to https://www.google.com/merchants and create an account if you don't have already. Once logged in on the left side you'll see few options in the middle you'll see Settings. Click on that and then you can see FTP and all the other settings you may need.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Apologies if I don't explain this well.

I have got as far in installing as going to admin and clicking confirm to get a product feed.

The name of the product feed is different to the one I put in this sites googlebase account, so I tried to change it in Gbase to the name of the feed in admin. But, it is the same feed name as for my other site, and it won't let me have the same name:unsure:

What do I need to change where to get a different name please? If anyone can help I would be greatful.

How odd, I clicked on upload, and the box came up as a successful upload, but it isn't, the feed isn't in that googlebase account, no products even pending, and it hasn't overwritten the other websites feed (the one witht he same name) either. Even more confused now.....sorry, found it, in admin configuration output file APOLOGIES

normally, 12-24 hours is for the feed to go live after approval... Is you feed name the same as what you told Google? Did you create the feed in Google first? I have mine placed into a feed folder on my site. I downloaded that file and then did a manual up load to Google when I first started. That way I could test my format and make sure the file name was right. I didn't trust that it would auto insert the feed, so I did it myself, which could be your problem if you didn't create the feed yet in Google.

Now its done through the mod and it still takes 12-24 for the feed to go live, but my feed now is over 5000 products.

Another good reason for doing a small manual upload... you'll need to clam the feed using the Google instructions.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but this is a bit confusing.

1)." Is you feed name the same as what you told Google? Did you create the feed in Google first?
No, I thought the Mod did that ??

2). " I have mine placed into a feed folder on my site. I downloaded that file and then did a manual up load to Google when I first started. " -> You mean the Feed file you created manually ? I am confused exactly what you did? You created a Feed file, then downloaded it , then uploaded it?

3). "I didn't trust that it would auto insert the feed, so I did it myself, which could be your problem if you didn't create the feed yet in Google.". I am still unclear what you did here. Sorry if I am a bit slow.

The Zen Feed Mod created this:
Google Base Feeder v1.7.4 started 2010/06/07 01:57:56
Feed file - /home/cvtreasu/public_html/feed/domain_products.xml
Processing: Feed - Yes, Upload - No
Google Base File Complete In 9.522361 Seconds 1116 Records

So the file domain_products.xml. Is this what you named your MANUAL Feed file?

Then the Zen Feed uploaded this:
Google Base Feeder v1.7.4 started 2010/06/07 02:01:33
Feed file - /home/cvtreasu/public_html/feed/domain_products.xml
Processing: Feed - No, Upload - Yes
Upload started...
Uploaded Successfully
-r--r----- 1 ftp · root · 1913209 Jun 6 19:01 domain_products.xml
Connected to: uploads.google.comLogin ok:Current Directory Is: /-r--r----- 1 ftp · root · 1913209 Jun 6 19:01 domain_products.xml

Telling me it uploaded the XML file. However, it is NOT in the Merchant Center Feeds or the FTP account location > FTP root at uploads.google.com

Not dumb, just confusing.... especially when working with two different systems, your cart and Google.

kevinmc3:

1)." Is you feed name the same as what you told Google? Did you create the feed in Google first?
No, I thought the Mod did that ??
Not sure if it does... There is two steps in creating a data feed in Google before uploading one, Create it, Register, then upload it, this the mod wont do.

kevinmc3:

2). " I have mine placed into a feed folder on my site. I downloaded that file and then did a manual up load to Google when I first started. " -> You mean the Feed file you created manually ? I am confused exactly what you did? You created a Feed file, then downloaded it , then uploaded it?
The feed folder should have been in the mod instructions and uploaded when installing the mod. Also you can set it in admin.

kevinmc3:

3). "I didn't trust that it would auto insert the feed, so I did it myself, which could be your problem if you didn't create the feed yet in Google.". I am still unclear what you did here. Sorry if I am a bit slow.I've always created feeds myself and have feed writers for doing it with non-zen cart sites. I downloaded the feed and look at it to see if it was correct, then went through the process in Google to create the feed and upload. Once the feed is created in Google, then the Zencart mod will have no problems uploading.... it simply has to replace what's there already.

kevinmc3:

So the file domain_products.xml. Is this what you named your MANUAL Feed file? You can set the 'Output File Name' in admin. The '_products.xml' is added by the mod and needs to be there for product feeds. I use a shorten name for my feeds... 'whty_products.xml'

kevinmc3:

/feed/domain_products.xml This is where your feed should be. I also use this folder for my rss\atom feeds.

So.... This is what I did.

  1. installed and setup the mod, created a 10 product feed.
  2. used my ftp program to download the xml file, check it.
  3. went to Google and Created the feed by clicking on the 'New Data Feed' button.
  4. Entered the feed country, feed type, and file name.
  5. click on the manual upload, upload your file and then clam the feed.

That's about it.... if you have time, really look over the Google help.... some good info on editing feeds and getting the best listings.

Thanks. This was very helpful. What I did was ran the Zen admin Mod create and upload. Went into my FEED folder, checked that the file was there. Looked at the feed file, looked like all the required Google attributes were there. Then went into Google, created manually a data feed, than uploaed the Zen created file in the FEED folder. And it seemed to work ok. UPloaded 1500 product feeds. NO errors except for a "Warning" that my expiration was too long (i.e. beyond 30 days), but it still loaded all products.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

HI

I am trying to install google feeder v1.82 on zencart 1.3.8a but I keep getting the following error when installing the install.sql script under tool-sql patches... I installed the patches first... would this be the problem..
I tried the uninstall script & then did the re-install again but no luck :(
Would really appreciate any ideas here.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

kevinmc3:

UPloaded 1500 product feeds. NO errors except for a "Warning" that my expiration was too long (i.e. beyond 30 days), but it still loaded all products.I had to set mine to 20 days... but I upload once every 14 days anyway.

jdalton:

HI

I am trying to install google feeder v1.82 on zencart 1.3.8a but I keep getting the following error when installing the install.sql script under tool-sql patches... I installed the patches first... would this be the problem..
I tried the uninstall script & then did the re-install again but no luck :(You don't need to do patches on a new install.... just the main install.sql would of been fine. If something is missing or you don't think it was all installed, run the uninsatll.sql and then just the install.sql.. Duplicate entry means it's already there so it can't be installed again.
