problem when Downloads and shipped items are purchased together ..

When testing I find that when I purchase an item that requires shipping together with a digital download, the shipping method is omitted during the checkout process, (I have 2 shipping modules installed: Per Item and Store Pickup) it only gives the option of Store Pickup. If I delete the "Download Product" from my cart and go back to checkout the shipping method returns, but as soon as I add the "Download" product, the Shipping option disappears again, only allowing for "Store Pickup" for the item that needs to ship.
What could be causing this ? I dont see anything in PRODUCT settings or any CONFIGURATION settings .........

I don't think I added any, it was months ago when I installed it for a client but it was a very basic set-up.

What are the settings on these products, related to free shipping, virtual, etc?
There are only 5 products. Only 1 of them is set as a Virtual Product because it is a digital download. It seems to override the product that isn't virtual during the checkout process.

What is the weight of these products?
The 4 products requiring shipping are only 5 pounds. The 1 virtual is 0 pounds.

What attributes do you have configured for these products?
The only product with attributes is the 1 virtual product for download. I simply added Option Name, Option Value, linked to the product, etc ... The downloadable product works fine on it's own as do the products requiring shipping.

Luckily it's a very basic set-up, very much like a testing scenario, so my first instinct was that it's an obvious oversight with a setting or something, but I don't know what .........

There's a common misconception that "downloads" are virtual and/or free shipping.

However, downloads do NOT need to be marked as Virtual Products and Downloads do NOT need to be marked as Always Free Shipping ... and indeed, shouldn't be. The fact that a file is attached to a product automatically treats it as a download.

Downloads by themselves in an order should NOT show the shipping page as there is no shipping and this is identified by the Download filename attached to the Attribute of the Download ...

Be sure that the Download filename shows in the Attributes Controller and has a GREEN dot next to it ...

It appears you solved it for me AJEH, thank you. On the Download Product's settings I switched the "Product Is Virtual" setting from Yes to No and now it works. Thanks for clearing that up!

So you cannot have a product that you are shipping physically and also have them get the download as one item? There can only be a download and a physical shipped item as two separate options? I am trying to have a "download" attribute and a download and "get a CD mailed to you" attribute but it does not charge shipping on the later one (yes, it is not set to virtual product). Is there any way to fix this?

I know that v1.3.8 has the ability to allow a product to be both virtual and physical. Ajeh has discussed how that works in several other sections of the forum.

Always Free Shipping: **Special, Product/Download Combo Requires a Shipping Address **

This means that the customer will have to provide the shipping information on checkout_shipping when the product is ordered ...

NOTE: A regular Download will never see the checkout_shipping page ...

I know that, but it then charges the customer shipping charges for the download as well as the attribute with the download and physical copy. Is there no way to have the download attribute be free shipping and the download and physical have the shipping apply normally without creating the same product twice?

NOTE: make sure that you do not have your Product that is the Download/Physical marked as Virtual ...

I do not have it marked as virtual. It will work if I choose the "Special, Product/Download Combo Requires a Shipping Address" chosen, but then it tries to charge shipping for the download only attribute for the product. All I have is two attributes, one for download only and one for download and CD shipped.

The shipping is setup correctly, it is something with it not allowing a download/product combo without charging shipping for any attribute choice for that product.

How are you using Zone Rates zones .... by Weight, Item or Price?

I am using the by item for zone rates, but I have tried both by price and weight and the problem remains.

This does appear to work for weight but not for Item or Price ...

To get this to work by Weight, let's assume the weight is 1lb for the CD ...

Set the Product up as:
Always Free Shipping: Special, Product/Download Combo Requires a Shipping Address

Product Weight: 1

Set up the Attributes as:
Download Only
Weight Prefix: -
Weight: 1
Add Download filename, days and max

CD and Download
(leave weight blank)
Add Download filename, days and max

Set Zones to Weight ...

Another way to do this by Weight:
Set the Product up as:
Always Free Shipping: Special, Product/Download Combo Requires a Shipping Address

Product Weight: 0

Set up the Attributes as:
Download Only
(leave weight blank)
Add Download filename, days and max

CD and Download
Weight Prefix: +
Weight: 1
Add Download filename, days and max

Again, set Zones to Weight ...

NOTE: The Special Product/Download Combo was actually made for Products that are both a Physical Product and a Download all of the time ...

If you have to use Item or Price, you might also look at the Cross Sell where you could make 2 Products separately where 1 is the Combo and 1 is the Download Only ...

The code could be customized further but it would require quite a bit of work to re-write ...

I tried what you said (thanks for the help), but it still just tried to charge shipping for both the download only and the combo.

I think I would need to see your site to determine how you have things setup and working ...

In a clean v1.3.8 I can get this working on Zones ...

Maybe later tonight or tomorrow I can test your site to see what is up ... but it is the bewitching hour and I have to scram ... :cool:

I have the same issue. I am selling downloadable images and decal products.

I dont have problem to set up Attributes for downloadedable images and set the weight to 0,

I set my decal products as 1lb per decals, therefore it will be easy for me to set the shipping fees, here is what I have done:

1:2.95,2:5.90,3:8.85,4:0.00 (shipping free when buy 4)

but when I try to checkout with both downloaded image and decal in the cart, it show shipping as $0.

I am make sure that I set it to calculate shipping by weight, but for some reason it calculate by price.
