Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

Your better route may be to use Categories Dressing and style it to look like two separate boxes for the two groups of categories.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

Ok, how do I do that? Like I said I am very new to all of this, have never done HTML or CSS before but managed to figure out enough to get the site looking good. This is the last thing we need to get done before we open the store. I need to get this done as soon as possible because we are loosing sales.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

Download Categories Dressing from Plugins and read the readme file. You can define two "category groups" as described there, and style each of them to look like a separate sidebox, with a defined heading for each one. For more detail, ask in the Categories Dressing support thread.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

I have installed this on the bluecart template. When I turn the side box on I lose the html content from my homepage.

In the layout boxes controller i have

sideboxes/bluecart/editable_sidebox.php

Should the template name be included there? Maybe I have done something obviously wrong that somebody can help me with or maybe the sidebox does not work with the bluecart template. This template does mess with the sideboxes and has some limit of movement for them.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

That is the correct appearance of the sidebox filename in that page/menu.

If the template alters the way sidebox files are written/handled, you will probably have to modify the editable sidebox file(s) in the same way that the template modifies other sidebox files.

From discussion in other threads, it appears that Blingthemes is out of business and there will be no support for their templates, and their templates are very badly coded so that standard functions and editing practices will not work. In other words, you might better find another template.

Thanks for your reply. I modified the fb code to fit the side box but it does not look very good. It really needs to be wider but the template is not nice anyway and I would love to change templates but I am a bit nervous about what will need to be done after changing templates to restore all the info etc and customize headers again etc.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

I am at my wits end here. I added the editable side box and the images for titles. As you can see the images show up for everything but the editable sidebox. Am i missing a change in code? I am confused because I have used these two together on a lot of sites before and never had this issue. Thanks for any help.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

Good Evening lovely people :)

I have installed a new editable sidebox here http://www.ital-dezigns.co.uk and am sure I have followed the instructions properly, have done it twice in fact, but if you look at the top right sidebox, you will see the category title says BOX_HEADING_EDITABLE_SIDEBOX_LIVE_CHAT when it should say 'Live Chat' I have looked everywhere before coming here, but am stumped, and just can not work out how to change it to say Live Chat, have probably done something stupid..loll

Thank you for your time.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

Should this work with 1.5.1 ?

I can only get the sidebox to show the header, not the content.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

Strange situation on this Editable Sidebox Mod 1.0.. I have created a new override template called AModernShopper.. After installing as instructed, the sidebox is there with the header/title and the default text, but the define page doesn't show up in Tools/Define Pages Editor so that I can edit that sidebox.

This is where I have placed all of the files:

includes/language/english/extra_definitions/AModernShopper/editable_sidebox_defines.php
includes/language/english/html_includes/AModernShopper/define_editable_sidebox_content.php
includes/modules/sideboxes/AModernShopper/editable_sidebox.php
includes/templates/AModernShopper/sideboxes/tpl_editable_sidebox.php

Is this correct? If it is, it does not show up in Define Pages Editor..

So when I go back and not install in my own override template like below, it does show up in the Define Pages Editor:

includes/language/english/extra_definitions/editable_sidebox_defines.php
includes/language/english/html_includes/define_editable_sidebox_content.php
includes/modules/sideboxes/editable_sidebox.php
includes/templates/template_default/sideboxes/tpl_editable_sidebox.php

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks so much!
Pamela

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

You need to have a copy of the define file in the base:
/includes/language/english/html_includes/define_editable_sidebox_content.php
before the copy in your custom template can be processed:
/includes/language/english/html_includes/AModernShopper/define_editable_sidebox_content.php

Since all the files are new, you could technically just put them all in the base. If you wanted to use this sidebox for various templates, you would need the files in the base, or else a complete set in each template folder (plus the define file in the base).

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

We can see a problem, but we can't say anything about the cause without seeing the site live. It doesn't appear to be the same template as the site where you posted the image.

And yes, this mod works on all versions of Zen Cart.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

Unfortunately, I can't see anything wrong with your output, except that there is absolutely no content output for the Facebook1 sidebox, only the wrapper that should hold the content. So we need to know a lot more information about what you have done with the editable sidebox, what you see in admin, what your define file looks like, and the information requested in the "Posting Tips" above the reply box.
