Need help with Virtual Merchant module

somedude:

I read through the thread and I'm trying to wrap my head around what exactly DCC is and what the issues are with foreign currency, but my problem is that we've been getting errors when people not in the U.S. are trying to make purchases (countries like Norway, Sweden, Australia and a few others). Hopefully someone will be tipped off as to what's wrong. I'll try to provided as much information as I can about the problem.
Hi dude,

FYI - DCC is a strange and unique animal. It can be more problems than its worth. I have had some beta testing done with Canadian vs. USD funds, but not much beyond that. Are you a U.S. merchant with a U.S. VM account? Do you have DCC enabled on your VM account? Will work with you thru PM/email on some of the other issues?

Thanks!

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

I recently installed Zen Cart v. 1.3.8a along with the Virtual Merchant Payment module.

I've been through the README and this thread entirely trying all the suggestions I could find and I am getting the following error, still:

Credit Card Processing Error: Failed to connect to host.
Error There has been an error processing your credit card!

Additionally, here's the information from my curl_version.php file:

I've double checked all of the settings and everything seems to be set up properly.

My host is Aplus and I've contacted them and had them set up the IP/Ports in their firewall and that hasn't fixed the problem either.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm a bit stuck on this one and have tried as many possibilities as I could find.

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

Hi teleios,

Check with your web hosting service provider and find out if you have to set up a proxy to use the curl implementation on your/their web hosting server?

Based on the messages you provided, your web server is unable to make a connection out to the Elavon server. I have a sneaking suspicion that it might require proxy settings to allow traffic from the web server out.

Give that a shot, and let us know? Good luck!

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

Hi Guys,

Great module. I've had no trouble with it, and I've used it up through 1.3.8a.

I have one thing I'm trying to achieve with it, and that is how to set it up so that credit card is the default payment method. Currently when the payment form is displayed, no payment method is selected. Then people fill in their credit card info and submit it, but because no method radio button was selected, it tells them to select a payment method and starts them over with a blank form. Now they have to put in their cc information again...

Is there a way to have the form select credit card automatically when the form displays. Or even better, have credit card select if any data is entered into the credit card fields?

That would be majorly bitchin.

Thanks for the kind words!! Always good to hear.

Well, this request is outside the scope of the VM payment module, however it is do-able with a quick hack. You'll have to make a change to your checkout payment template -- please see the FAQ's on how to correctly modify/override template files.

Here is the original template file: $STORE_HOME/includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_checkout_payment_default.php

In a stock 1.3.8a installation, on line 140 of 209 of the above file you will want to change (make a new template override) of the line from this:

<?php echo zen_draw_radio_field('payment', $selection[$i]['id'], ($selection[$i]['id'] == $_SESSION['payment'] ? true : false), 'id="pmt-'.$selection[$i]['id'].'"'); ?>

to something like this:

<?php echo zen_draw_radio_field('payment', $selection[$i]['id'], ( (($selection[$i]['id'] == $_SESSION['payment'])||($selection[$i]['id'] == 'virtualmerchant')) ? true : false), 'id="pmt-'.$selection[$i]['id'].'"'); ?>

This is adding another check to the ternary for the radio button payment option display. If the payment type (id) is 'virtualmerchant', it will automatically select the VM radio button while printing the choices out, except in the case where the user has pre-selected a different payment option during their session, then the latter of the two choices on the display will be checked (depends upon how each browser will handle multiple selected radio buttons -- this is probably an html faux pas but is not the end of the world).

At any rate, it's a quick and dirty one-liner, but seems to work?

Hope this helps!

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

Hi rtw819,

Thank you very much. That didn't work for me, but it gave me enough of a leg up on the situation to dream up a fix that worked.

I left line 140 as it was, and just before it I added:

if(empty($_SESSION['payment']))
        $_SESSION['payment'] = 'virtualmerchant';

The only trouble I was having was when the person first arrives at the checkout page. No payment methods are selected when they first arrive. This, then, will give them a default payment method. If they change that payment method, the test above fails, and it remains whatever they selected. This also gets away from having 2 radio buttons checked.

The whole fix is as follows:

Line 140 in /includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_checkout_payment_default.php:

Original code:

<?php echo zen_draw_radio_field('payment', $selection[$i]['id'], ($selection[$i]['id'] == $_SESSION['payment'] ? true : false), 'id="pmt-'.$selection[$i]['id'].'"'); ?>

New code:

<?php
    if(empty($_SESSION['payment']))
        $_SESSION['payment'] = 'virtualmerchant';

    echo zen_draw_radio_field('payment', $selection[$i]['id'], ($selection[$i]['id'] == $_SESSION['payment'] ? true : false), 'id="pmt-'.$selection[$i]['id'].'"'); ?>

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

Kehrli,

Quite welcome, glad to help. Way to go! Simple enough, and better in the end! Glad you have a working solution for the problem. It was late and I wasn't thinking very clearly... :)

I'll add this info to the docs for a future version of the VMEPG module as I'm sure others have this same issue -- especially those with only one payment option. If the user forgets to select the radio button, their data is forgotten and they have to re-enter it again.

Maybe something as a future enhancement to ZenCart would be an Administrator defined preferred payment option which, such as what we have defined here, gets selected first automatically. While we can already choose the display order, the auto-select is a nice option and may save confusion or hassle. We like simple things that just work!

Yes, I agree completely. An admin option would rock.

Thanks again for your help.

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

With Elavon discontinuing the InternetSecure Gateway next July (or so Elavon Tech Support has told me), those of us who want to use its entering CC on the backend capabilities are going to be EOL'd.

Can you add the ability to use the VMEPG CC entry on the backend in addition to frontend?

Conversely, does anybody know if the IS MerchantLink Module could be modified to work with VirtualMerchant? Or is anybody thinking about building a new module to handle CC on the backend-only with Virtual Merchant?

Thanks,

Jim

What does this mean? I"m not familiar with the term, "InternetSecure Gateway". Are you saying that they are announcing that they will stop being a gateway service? Or that our VM integration will break?

It sounds like that's what you're saying, but I'm not familiar with the terms you are using.

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

I'm sorry if I am being confusing. Elavon uses the InternetSecure Gateway as a payment gateway, in addition to VirtualMerchant. IS uses the InternetSecure Merchant Link Payment Module for ZenCart, and it provides the ability to connect with IS's Merchant Link service, which processes the CC for you in the backend (you go to their site to enter CC info).

My tech support person at Virtual Merchant told me that I needed to switch over to that payment module, using the IS gateway to process CCs on their site. She also told me that Elavon was going to discontinue using the InternetSecure service next July, and that I would have to plan accordingly.

Hence this post.

HOpe that clears it up.

Jim

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

We have a Zen Cart store that is based in the US which is where the majority of our sales originate. I have been using the VMEPM 1.2 successfully for US orders. We do get some customers trying to order from Canada but their CC transactions are rejected. I saw the Canada only patch on this thread but I need to properly accept orders from both countries.

Please advise on what the issues are and if there is a way to resolve them.

thanks

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

Ok this mod has been working great for me forever but suddenly I am getting the same old error I had back with earlier set up.

Based on the issue I had a year ago I'll go ahead and state that I have an account # starting with a 5, and user ID and pin # all entered correctly. I am linking to production, with this url:
https://www.myvirtualmerchant.com/Vi...ant/process.do

No changes have been made within zen cart. I have verified that referrers are set up in myvirtualmerchant.com same as they have been all year.

There was a security audit and upgrade done to my server, however. I am wondering if perhaps that is the issue I am having now. I contacted my web host but wanted to check in here as well ... the current error message is:

Hi Aly,

Well, there were likely a number of "changes" if your web hosting provider made security upgrades (changes) to your webserver. Would your provider be able to provide you with any information as to what specifically was upgraded or patched?

Since your referrer on the Elavon VM web terminal configuration page is still set, does it match something like:

<https://www.your-zen-site.com>  ?

Did your site DNS name or URL change as a part of the upgrade?

Something must have changed, it's just a matter of figuring out what and how to fix it. It might be worth turning up the debug level within the VMEPG and checking your referrer being transmitted to Elavon to ensure it matches with what you have set in the web terminal settings?

Just a few thoughts for starters?

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

errorName=HTTP Referrer Invalid

That error is given when you have not registered the domain of your store with your account. For instance if your store site is at https://www.mystore.com, then you have to register mystore.com in your Virtual Merchant settings. mystore.com is the "HTTP Referrer".

Maybe you were set up to accept the IP address instead of the domain name, and then the IP address is different. Or maybe you were setup using the machine name of your host. I have mine setup to use my domain name, and so it doesn't get affected by upgrades to my host's software.

Anyway, that's what the error is and should get you closer to finding the solution.

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

Thanks so much for the tips -- as it turned out :oops: the culprit was a stray backslash in the config file. The site had been hacked and somehow in the clean-up of files I must have inadvertently mistyped. Was a bit of a challenge to dig through all possibilities and embarrassing to find that the solution was just a dumb mistake. Ah well, live and learn.

Hello,

I installed this module yesterday and it works great. Very easy to install and configure. Thank you very much!!! While is works great for US customers, it is not working for customers in the UK. I get a response in the log that looks like everything was sumitted correctly, but the response back is error=UNRECOGNIZED_RESPONSE. I do have DCC enabled for my account and everything works great for US customers.

Was anyone ever able to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

I just got hit with about $1,200 in fraudulent transactions. I found out the there is no active AVS (address verification) being used by either Virtual Merchant, or by the payment module in ZenCart.

How do I get AVS turned back on? Is there a mod to the module, or is it better to set it up with VM?

Sorry if this is answered elsewhere, but it didn't show up on my search of "AVS" or "Address Verification" in this thread.

Re: Need help with Virtual Merchant module

Running ZC 1.3.8a with Super-Orders V2 and VirtualMerchant 1.2.

Seems to be running ok. Checkout completes with Approval and order makes it into Admin.

Here is my problem...
The order appears as if a payment was not made.
It does show
PAYMENT METHOD: CREDIT CARD PAYMENT INFORMATION
But, below this it also shows
NO PAYMENT DATA AVAILABLE

Shouldn't it be giving me the Credit Card Authorization Number next to the payment, or at least down in the Comments section???

And, under the order totals it shows
Sub-Total: $34.62
United Parcel Service (Ground): $7.57
California Tax Rate: $3.03
Total: $45.22
Amount Applied: $0.00
Balance Due: $45.22

It's almost like VM is not telling ZC the order was paid at all.

Can anyone help me with this??? :frusty:

Thanks!
Rick
