Download corrupt

I am having problems with my downloads being corrupt sometimes. Some people don't have problems with downloading; others get corrupted downloads.

If you could test it for me and let me know if you get a corrupt file. I have two links to two free downloads. You'll have to create an account in order to download.

If you get a corrupt download, could you send me the file or let me know what is corrupt about it. Everything was running fine for a while and then suddenly it stopped working.

I have the downloads set for streaming at both sites.

I am also getting the problem of not shipping to your area error and I am the one trying to download the product. (shaking head)

What shipping modules do you have setup?

Are your Download products marked as:

Product is Virual: No, Shipping Address Required
Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

Payments for Free Product with Free Shipping need to have the Zen Cart Free Charger freecharger installed in order to checkout ...

These "free" products are strictly for testing and I personally didn't have any problem downloading them. The other products are not free, but are virtual. I do have them marked as no shipping address required. I realized the issue was that I had a paperback book in my shopping cart. However, I changed my address to two different, valid ones (one my mother's up north and the other a friend in TX) and still received the error. I have both UPS and USPS installed. I also have Zone Rates set up for shipping to Canada as the USPS won't ship to PO Boxes in Canada, and many other areas in Canada. Will this cause this type of problem?

I have considered setting up zone rates for the Western US and the Eastern US for USPS to see if I can get around this issue.

I have been querying customers who've had download problems to see what browser, OS and internet speed they have to see if there is any correlation between these and the download issue. There shouldn't be, but I am just trying to cover all of my bases. I am at the point where I would be willing to pay someone to fix this issue for me. I know Zen Cart works great for a number of people. I am trying to figure out how to make it work seamlessly for me. :)

Okay. What does this mean? How do I fix it? do I need a different web host?

All I am trying to do is get you to setup you Payment Modules correctly so that I can test a check out with the Free Product but without the Payment Module for Zen Cart Free Charger freecharger installed I cannot checkout with this Test free download to even see anything ...

I appreciate that and it's been installed in the Wild Child site for quite some time now. I just installed it at Freya's Bower. I am also wondering if I use a different cart than Zen Cart (which I think is great), will I continue to have download problems? The downloads are corrupt for some people, even those on a cable modem, but not others. Some stall in the middle of download even with high speed connections. I just need to have it working properly. It irritates customers, not a good thing, and makes extra work for me, which I don't need either. I am just trying to figure out how to make this work.

Okay. I apologize. I had the free charger mixed up with the free shipper. Don't ask me how, but I did. Both are installed now. I appreciate your patience, Linda.

Because the file is a PDF and not a ZIP I am given a choice to Open in Adobe or Save to Disk ...

If I say Save to Disk the file is fine ...

If I say Open, I get a bad file ...

More than likely this is what your customers are running into on these files ... some know what to do to save first and some don't ...

We really recommend Zipping files to avoid this issue as browsers like to control things and customers don't know what to do when bad things happen ...

This is the bizarre thing. I was at the library tonight giving a talk. I signed onto my website to download the file. Well, the file was fine if I opened it directly into Adobe. However, if I saved it, it was corrupt. This file I didn't zip, but most of my files are zipped, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I think I was using IE7, but I didn't look too hard and didn't ask them what program it was.

I am seriously stumped about this issue. Not that I know PHP or anything, but it was working fine for quite some time then suddenly, it stopped working properly. I can download this file onto my computer without any problems. One friend can; the other can't. My husband can from work, but the library doesn't work. Are we talking a software problem or a server problem.

How do you have your settings on Configuration ... Attribute Settings ...

I'd also suggest that you ask your hosting company what's changed recently on the server.
PHP version?
PHP settings?
PHP compiled options?
Apache settings?
Caching/buffering?
Internet connection infrastructure?
Proxy/firewall configurations?
etc

Cuz .... if you didn't change anything in the software, and then it suddenly stopped working consistently, then ... it's not likely the software.

I will ask my server about these because I had some problems in the beginning, but they fixed it somehow. I went months without little to no complaints, then recently we had a spike in sales and I receive almost one email a day stating that someone either can't download the ebook or the file is corrupt. Some customers are calm; others irate. Some can download one of the ebooks they've purchased, but not more than one. Some can't download any. I end up sending them the file, but this defeats the purpose of a shopping cart almost. (sigh)

I know this is a great program and works for many people. I just don't know why it doesn't work properly for me. (sigh)

Okay. So my server said they haven't changed anything and they were able to download the files with no problems on both IE and Firefox. (sigh) They believe it to be Zen Cart. (bigger sigh)

What version of Zen Cart?
Has it been upgraded from other versions? which ones?
What version of PHP?
What version of Apache?

The version of Zen Cart is 1.3.7, so I am up to date. :)

They are running PHP 5 and have customized their Apache for highest efficiency and stability. Not sure what that means about what they've done or how it would affect Zen Cart.
