Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

the missing * 100 should be fine because the number_format is still set to 2 decminal places so it still adds the 00, just with a blank separator.

As for PayPal, I'm reluctant to use them in general. Too many problems with their restrictive policies and bad business practices over their years.

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

I have been using paypal's payment module for my zencart for the last 8 months. I'm thinking something with a lower fee % would be better at this point. I talked to chase and they offered this Paymentech eCommerce solution to me.

I asked about SSL certificates because I've only been using the one through paypal. My current web host isn't providing me with an SSL certificate. The rep said "it (ssl) was integrated with the cart". I wasn't sure if he was implying that Paymentech came with it's own cart, So I mentioned I was already using Zencart, then the sales rep said "nevermind zencart will work and it has it's own SSL"

I wasn't convinced he knew what he was talking about, so I'm here asking.... does Paymentech use it's own SSL or secure gateway without the use of an SSL certificate through my web hosting company? Or will it require me purchasing one through my web host?

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

First... run for the hills. I'm sorry I ever recommended Paymentech. It may SEEM like a lower %, but with all the hidden fee crap... it really isn't. PayPal charges a higher % but doesn't tag on extras for various cards like Paymentech does. Every time a customer uses a card that gets them travel or reward points or a 1% cash bonus or whatever (and who doesn't these days?) you'll be charged some unknown extra fee. You'll never know how much a sale is costing you until a month or so later.

But you make your own decisions. Whoever you were talking to is full of it - sort of. I mean, of course they use their own SSL gateway but YOU need to provide a secure environment to pass your customer's data to their gateway. So you WILL need your own SSL cert absolutely. I wouldn't get it through your hosting company though, unless they're cheap. Get your SSL cert from GoDaddy for like $20 a year and have your host install it on the server. If they won't, then get a new host. I've been with page-zone.com for a decade now... not the cheapest and probably not the best (though still cheap and damned good) but I'm still with them because they've never screwed up or ripped me off either. And they're very accommodating as long as you're not doing ########, etc.

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

Using the Orbital service will require you to have your own SSL certificate installed on your own website.

Paymentech may offer some other hosted-payments service, but the Orbital module discussed in this thread is not built for that.

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

So, I'm doing some research here and I'm a little confused how Paymentech + VersaPay + Orbital are the "same thing." I'm sure they are and I just don't understand.

So, this person tells me they have a merchant account with Chase. I go check out Chase bank and find this:

chasepaymentech.com/portal/community/chase_paymentech/public/public_website/solutions/processing_solutions_pages/e-commerce_solutions_pages/orbital_payment_gateway

which is "Orbital."

Am I presuming that you can setup a merchant account with Chase Bank, install this Zen-Cart module, and then process payments against that merchant account, at Chase?

Or am I missing something here?

Thanks for clarifying my confusion anyone....

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

@scowby
I found it pretty confusing too when I first started with CC processing. Basically you have 1) Your merchant account (Chase) 2) Your processor (Paymentech), and in Paymentech's case they have two different types of gateways, Orbital and Versapay 3) The customer's bank

So you get an account with Paymentech and give them your merchant account. You point your e-commerce Paymentech software at Paymentech's server (Orbital and Versapay have different ones). Your customer submits an order and it is transmitted to the processor by your Paymentech software, Paymentech tries to do an authorization/capture of the funds at your customer's bank. If there are any problems (insufficient funds, Address Verification System (AVS) failure, canceled card, etc) the processor, Paymentech in this case, returns the appropriate error code to your e-commerce Paymentech software. If there were no errors then Paymentech deposits the funds in your merchant account, although this process is delayed a bit when doing an "authorization" only instead of a "capture".

Hope that helps

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

Sure, it does clarify a bit.

From my understanding, you'd still need to go through a "verification" process with Chase bank in order to use this plugin module.

I just got off the phone with a rep and he mentioned using Authorize.Net. I'm assuming here, Paymentech and Authorize.Net are, essentially both payment processors. And Chase is the merchant bank.

So, one could use either Paymentech or Authorize.net (this module is built for Paymentech though). Correct?

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

I have not heeded the run for the hills comment or missed it on first pass. Also, notice that this topic is a bit stale.

I am trying to get ZC working with paymentech and am getting the gateway error message when submitting cc info.

orbital says they are not getting attempts on my account. Am using ZC 1.3.9

I also looked through the php and saw a statement saying that SSL is needed. I don't have it purchased or enabled. Could this be my problem?

Orbital support said that i would have to disable some proxy setting but they could not tell me where this is or how to do it.

I am hosted on godaddy, unix server running PHP05

Any and all help is appreciated.

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

Gerry - regarding the Orbital Gateway error, are you receiving an error code in the ProcStatus? I've just run into the issue where the ProcStatus is now blank when I submit an order. Chase tells me they aren't seeing the transaction coming thru to their end, so I am assuming that ZC isn't transmitting the information to them (otherwise they would see the attempt). I'm running ZC 1.3.8 and my last successful transaction went thru 3/8/11. Any order that comes in now throws the same error.

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

Question, Can anyone assist me in setting this module up?

  1. Where do you find the credentials asked for in the admin panel upon set up? i.e. the Test merchant i.d., Production merchant i.d. etc. I have a Paymentech account and I've logged into the authorize.net interface but the only thing I could get was an API id and a Transaction key. Help? Thanks.

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

Can anyone confirm that this module works for ZC 1.3.9?? I don't like the thought of having to use a 4 year old version just to process CC's

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

I am currently using a slightly modified version of this module with Zen Cart 1.39. A few import notes: You will need to go thru a certification process with Chase and you need to provide them with your IP. The certification process involves submitting a series of transaction to chase, recording the response and then submiiting the resposne to chase. Once they are satisfied they will approve you.

The modifications that were made include just checking the credit card number (Not Authorizing) and for use with Atrex Software.

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

I've been trying to get this module to work and am wondering if anybody could clue me in as to where I should be looking.

I've already gone through the excruciatingly long process of getting to the testing part of certification and am now trying to get this module to work.

Now, when I try to run a test purchase I receive the "An unexpected credit card gateway error occured. Your order was not processed. The details have been sent to the store manager who will contact you to help resolve this problem." message.

The "Paymentech Gateway Problem" email I receive, however, does not have an error code on it: "ProcStatus = -" is what comes back, which leads me to think the order isn't going through to paymentech at all.

I've changed a few things in a few files I thought needed changing:

In the language defines I changed the test servers to the ones that Orbital sent me (https://orbitalvar1.chasepaymentech.com ..... possibly updated since this module was originally created 9 years ago?)

I've changed the line about the currency (<Amount>" . number_format(($order->info['total'] * $order->info['currency_value']), 2, '.', '') *100 . "</Amount>).

I've uncommented the debug line but have received no message from that (//this is how we test without commiting the order to the DB erase when ready to continue
$messageStack->add_session('checkout_payment', '|' . $CVV2RespCode . '|success. AuthCode = ' . $this->auth_code . ' TXRefNum = ' . $this->transaction_id . ' AVSResp = ' . $AVSRespCode . ' CVVResp = ' . $CVV2RespCode, 'success');
zen_redirect(zen_href_link(FILENAME_CHECKOUT_PAYMENT, '', 'SSL', true, false));
).

I do have cURL enabled.

I'm obviously missing something but I'm a bit stumped and rechecking things in circles. Any ideas?

Wow, 9 years since I wrote that?! That is... well, depressing.

Sorry I can't help. I haven't used Paymentech in a looooong time. I only went with them because, at the time, there weren't many options for Canadian merchants in lower volumes and PayPal wasn't good enough. At some point I realized they were over-billing me like crazy (watch that! They have a lot of undocumented, unexplained higher rates for some cards and you have no way to control it. At least that was the case 9 years ago) and PayPal's Canadian service improved so I just went that route.

I'm now kind of out of the loop both on Zen programming as well as Paymentech, so I've got nothing to offer you but a wish of good luck.

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

Ok, something I missed is that now the XML also needs to include an Orbital Username and Password. I added that but am still getting the same error.

Something I just noticed about the error in the email that I'm returned is that the closing tags for the XML request in those emails don't have the slash in them. They're present in the php file, just not in that gateway error email that I get:

Transaction request data =

So I haven't had much luck with this module and I'm thinking about hiring somebody to get this module working or maybe start with a new payment module. I'm just wondering what should I expect that to cost?

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

Ok, so it turns out Orbital gave me the wrong payment gateways (twice) which is why nothing was working.

After finally getting the correct gateway address, apparently the test charges that I'm attempting are getting through and being approved. Chase/Paymentech/Orbital have a module in their "Developer Center" that returns the responses for test charges so I see that they are getting through and they're ok. However, Zen Cart is still saying there's a Payment Gateway Error, and not returning any other error to me (unless I can't find it? Where should I look?)

I'm about to go through everything again looking for things on the response side of things, but was wondering if anybody knew where I should be looking for that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Paymentech (aka VersaPay, aka Orbital)

Orbital has told us:

You will need to inquire to your software vendor on this matter, since we are seeing the responses go back.

...since the credit cards we were testing were making it through and being approved.

So I have two issues I was hoping I could get some help with:

  1. I changed some setting somewhere a couple nights ago and now when I try to test the module in test mode I don't get any fields at checkout. I can insert billing address, but I don't get the CC# field, expiry, CVV code, any of that. Not in testing mode, anyway. In production mode or with other payment modules the fields still show up. I've made sure I have no zones set but for the life of me I can't figure out what I did to have those things omitted (and I didn't make a backup :( ) and I can't test anymore cards now that I don't have those fields present.

  2. Is anybody aware of what part of the code actually checks the response obtained from the processor? I haven't been taught code, I've done most things by trial and error, but I'm really not sure what part I should be trying and erroring on. Could somebody please point me in the right direction (the part of the code that actually parses the server response)?
