Customer Upload Artwork Facility

We like to really mess with your minds on database table names ...

So, we called the table for the file uploads:
files_uploaded

nifty, eh?

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

I need to add a facility for a customer to upload their artwork when they order certain products. Any help or link to appropriate thread appreciated. I have read that this is possible (somewhere) but unsure where to post this question. Thanks, Andy

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

I think you can already do this in the attributes section but I am not sure as I am new to this.

I just wanted to jump in here as this is something I am going to need shortly too :)

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

Website Rob:

You offer good advice Linda but in these days of 'hurry up and get it done", it is more common to looking on usage for a specific feature. Which brings to mind the Downloads section for ZenCart. As there is no search feature, one must browse every section, until the desired module is found, or continue searching for perhaps a slightly better one.

One tip for searching the downloads, indead the site as a whole is to use google

Head to google and put

site:https://www.zen-cart.com search term here

into the search box. You should find that this helps things along nicely :) I use this for most sites instead of the forum search etc as it tends to show better results. :)

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

I too would like the following things:

-If someone tries to upload a file with the wrong extension, the product must not be added to the basket

-When the shop receives the ordering e-mail, there should be a hyperlink to the uploaded file (image in my case).

I know it has been said before, just want to let you know I want those functions too :P

If someone has a solution for this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

I definitely agree that the file should not be added to the basket if the customer does not complete their order... but also... is there a way to display a thumbnail of the file that they're uploading, or to allow them to upload a folder instead of an individual file without having to zip it first?

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

Ok.. this is complicated, but what I ended up doing is...
hired a coder to do an image upload feature tied into the confirmation email. It checks the database and gets their customer number and order info including quantities and generates a unique link for them that it puts in the email..
(it gets the info that I set as far as number of required images and such from a text doc for easy editing)
customers click the link and go to an upload page where they will upload all the images they want for their order.. no restrictions on number (this takes care of people that want to upload a couple of questionable images and get the owner/designer's opinion over which will work best) This page also contains restrictions on the file types allowed, etc and when they click upload.. they can continue to browse for more files while the first ones are uploading...
it will then create a folder in a directory on the server with their customer number as the file name and append the date to the front of the uploaded files to help keep everything in order in a fashion since all images from all products they ever order will be in this folder for up to 6 months (keeps them from having to upload the same file over and over to use it in multiple products)

After they complete the upload, they click a button to go the image selection page where a set number (based on the product and quantity ordered) of selection boxes will display. They click each box, which opens a browse window, where they will find the file they want to put in that slot... and click ok. There is a preview of the image in the browse box and in the selection slot after the image is chosen. They continue doing this until all boxes are full. And there is a check box on top that will remove the additional slots if they want all quantities of an item to identical.

When they are done and they submit it.. an email will go to the owner with a list of customer's name, email, customer number, picture names uploaded and order they want them displayed.

This might be overkill for some people's needs.. but we do custom photo books, photo bags, photo artwork, jewelry, frames... etc.... so like 95% of our products require photo upload.

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

Sorry to be such a dullard, but how does the administer access the uploaded file? I've looked everywhere for a file manager but can't see one.

Thanks in advance

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

At this time, this is managed via FTP from the /images/uploads directory ... the matching filename is numbered on the Order with the real filename next to it ...

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

How does one restrict file types with this functionality? Adding more than one file would be good to have as well.

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

Im sorry but i have been going round and round on the forums trying to get to grips with "how to allow customers to upload images".

i have finaly found this forum and have read it 3 times start to end and the closest i think i have come to a solution is the post bellow by Linda (Ajeh).
however i have no idea what its actualy refering to.
im using zen cart v 1.3.8 latest as of this post date.

and whats realy anoying is that from what i have been reading the upload personal images was wanted way back in zen cart 1.3.5.

so i am BEGGING anyone please for the sake of my business does anyone actualy know how to instruct all the people like me how to allow customers to upload images when they are placing orders.

i sell Crystal with 2-D and 3-D lasered images inside the actual crystal glass not eched and customers NEED to supply there own images as its all custom made no generic images.

as stated im using zen 1.3.8. no modifications made to it other than a template "clean business" and i can find my way around the php pages so you could if you weere willing just past the coding here stating where it should go and i would be happy with that.

thank you in advance.
