Customer Upload Artwork Facility

Go to Option Name Manager ...
Create an Option Name: Load Image Here
Pick: File (from the drop down)
Click Insert

Go to Attributes Controll ...
Find your Product ...
Pick from Option Name: Load Image Here (File)
Pick from Option Value: TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES]
Click Insert

Now when the Product is ordered you will find the image in the /images/uploads directory and that will have a number for the filename and the matching extention to the original file ...

Looking at the Order, you will see the number next to the original filename on the Order details ...

We will be re-writting the Uploader for the Products in a future release ...

Hello!
About this: I just found some pictures of some clients that abandoned the cart and that's showing me that there is a reason why they did it. I try the same thing like them and I realized that there is no confirmation that the file was uploaded [like on Kijiji, for example, where you can see a small thumbnail].
Did you re-write the code?

Thank you!

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

It is very old code that needs to be addressed in a future release to make it more friendly to both the Customer and Store Owner ...

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

So once the image is uploaded by a customer is it possible to access it through a browser? Or is FTP the only way to get the file?

If it can be viewed through the browser I would have modified some code in the shopping cart to show a thumbnail of the uploaded image. It seems however that the image cannot be seen.

Please confirm.

Hi My customers upload images and I retrieve them via ftp.

is there a way for the customer to see that the upload was successful by displaying a thumbnail back to them so that they can see it after they uploaded it. I know there is a little green bar appears at the top with text saying when they have been successful but a few of my customers seem to think they were unsuccessful and re-upload their photos again and again.
You know when you upload your own photos during product creation, you get to see a preview, this would be ideal.
Am I missing this option in the configuration somewhere?
Many thanks

Steven

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

There's a htaccess file in the images/uploads directory - if deleted the iamge files can be seen from a browser as well.

Of course this could be a security hazard because then anyone could type in the a file number and see al pics on the directory one by one.

This can be gotten around by making the uploaded file having a random extension or the customer id or some other change in the name instead of the just the serial number. This has been shown in another thread somewhere on the forum.

Adding more than one file would be good to have as well.

It's just a matter of telling the customer how to upload the multiple images. Add a note like "To add multiple images, use your "back" browser button, select the additional image and add to cart, repeat as needed. When finished, continue through checkout".

I tried it and it created an entry in the shopping cart for each image added. Not really pretty but it gets the job done.

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

Website Rob:

Although I'm not yet sure the problem can be resolved correctly through a ZC feature, odds are you will face some problems.

By default, each Hoster has Server-wide settings for max. file size of uploads when using PHP. This max. file size is usually 2 MB and can be very restricting in some cases. If a ZC feature does provide what you want and find you are restricted to a 2 MB file size, the following code may help.

in > public_html/.htaccess
put > php_flag upload_max_filesize 10M [or whatever file size you desire]

The thing about allowing uploads is to always make sure you can specify what type of files, max. file size, and where they can be uploaded to. Otherwise, you could get people uploading files sizes that are HUGE -- needlessly using up valuable Web space within your Hosting account -- or even worse, somebody uploading their hacker script(s).

In similar situation with another Shopping cart, this person is running a Printing business, the best solution was to use a 3rd party script coded in Perl. By using Perl instead of PHP, upload limitions were overcome and strict security was imposed on any uploaded files.

Thank you. I attempted to implement the upload capability some time ago and was never successful.
In "Maximum Values" I set the following:
Maximum file upload size: 307200000
Allowed Filename Extensions for uploading: .jpg, jpeg, eps, zip, rar, psd (and some other).

We have an FTP site but IE but the process is not simple and IE times out before the file is uploaded. Other browsers do not allow FTP upload capabilities at all. Can you possibly point me to some instructions how to incorporate the feature? Also if you know of someone who has added a working Perl utility, I would appreciate contacting them.

Thank you very much for you time.

Options Name Manager ...
Option Name: Logo
Option Type: File

Option Value Manager ...
NOTE: You do not add anything for the Option Value

Attributes Controller ...
Locate Product for Upload
Option Name: Logo
Option Value: TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES]

Files will be uploaded to:
/images/uploads

They will be labled by number.ext and match what is in the Orders information of the Admin ...

Thanks, I will work on this later this afternoon. I appreciat your help.

rohitsax:

Is this what you're looking at doing:

http://www.excitinglives.com/experience/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=137

Yes this is what I am looking for, however, it needs to have the ability to upload the file after the purchase. Typically my customers purchase the product and create the necessary images days later. It would be nice to have it linked to an order but becasue of the delay in upload that may not be possible.

Can you provide any details?

It would require custom code to be added to the account_history page.

You could add an upload form to the order table in there that customers could come back to when they're ready, and then have the custom script handling the uploads place them in a special directory on your server, probably using some derivative of the order number as the file name.

This would be relatively straightforward for a PHP developer with some experience of writing code to manage uploads.

That would be perfect. I don't care so much about security, I just want to get the thumbnails. More than half my people leave after uploading and I have to think that they are expecting to see their image. Someone, Rohitsax or otherwise, please help me out.

Re: Customer Upload Artwork Facility

The page at which you are looking has been created using Zen Cart's file attributes feature, which allows a customer to upload a file, but this has to take place pre-purchase and not post-purchase as your indicated that you needed.

You can find out more about attributes in the FAQ.
